Great video. Thank you. I’m a beginner/intermediate and so it’s valuable information for me. I’ve had too many male players moan that I didn’t get/go for that fast return of serve, but it’s obvious now that those shots are for the player further back, with the advantage of those extra milliseconds of reaction time!
@@TheBadmintonCoach As you say it's the easiest shot to practice yet so often neglected - just an hour or so is enough time to make sure you're keeping the shuttle low to the net and landing it in the right place. So many people seem to view it as just a way to restart the game, rather than an opportunity to gain an advantage - especially at lower levels having a consistent short serve and a surprise long serve can get you a lot of free points!
Lebowski I agree. I consider a good low serve at intermediate level is worth at least five points a game. It’s expected that you have a good serve at advanced level
@@TheBadmintonCoach What are your thoughts on the change to the service height rule? As a shorter player myself I'm all for it but I can understand taller players being somewhat upset.
Thanks for the video couch, it is the first video that I watch from you im confused for the serve when the girl is a little big than you when exactly you have to serve ?in what way? for example if you are going to serve the girl is more big than you or have the same and when se is going the put her body into a zone, she is going to do a little movement whit his body when you are going to serve
Find the positioning that works for you but understand the key areas you want your partner to cover. Ideally your partner should be in a position which allows you to serve well and she can cover the net replies
Hi Paul, great video. I just happen to have had this conversation this week. I still have one question, although I think the last part of the video already gave the answer a bit: Male is serving and we agree that the lady should stand in front of the receiver. But where exactly do you place the lady? More or less against (not on) the T, or a bit further towards the side line (like in the middle of the halfcourt)? The argument I heard for the latter option was to completely cut off the straight return, and almost everything cross would be for the male. I'd think that the lady would be too far away for returns that are going a little bit cross, resulting in the male having to go forward, probably needing to lift or creating a bigger chance of pushing your lady into the backcourt. What is your take on this, also considering most services are going near the T.
wanted to know rule during doubles game. Can a person picks the service opposite to server( player who is not diagonally to server). Scenario: server hits to back of court and person who is not diagnol picking that service. Is it allowed?

Delighted you have learnt more about this game and I hope it will help you win a lot more points in the future
I don't have so much words to thank you, but I am really grateful to you for this video! It's very usefull too )
If this information helps you understand badminton better, then I’m delighted for you
It's strange how many people seem to ignore the importance of the serve - it's the only shot in the game which you have complete control over.
Lebowski I agree. It’s also the one shot you can practice on your own and yet I rarely see intermediate players and many advanced too practicing

Lebowski I just accept that since bringing in this rule, the players appear to accept it without moaning to the umpire.

Akshay Singhal if you’re mean hit the shuttle, only the player being served to can return the shuttle
@@TheBadmintonCoach means during start of game and service only even(person in right court) person can hit in return. Right?
Akshay Singhal only the player who is being served to can hit the shuttle.
@@TheBadmintonCoach thanks!
