Gronya is looking a little like Maria Sharapova in these videos! ;D
    1. Okay jokes aside, I would like to know how to best deal with the flick serve. I consider myself an "advanced amateur", and for many years, I have stood about a metre away from the short service line to receive serve, and then push it as flat as possible to the back corners.
    2. Obviously by standing that far back, you are less susceptible to the flick serve, but the downside is your returns to the rear corners may not be as flat as you want them to be all the time, especially if the opponents serve really well. Then it becomes a lift. And when this happens, and if I'm playing with a weaker partner, I tend to lift the shuttle to my side of the court, even if it is to the opponent's forehand, given the propensity of most people to smash straight. I figured that way, even if we would still be on the defensive, but at least I could try to control the rally from there. But you do come up against the odd smart player who would smash cross court at the weaker partner.
    3. Because of this, recently I've tried moving my receiving stance closer to the short service line, like what you guys the pros do. This does offer me several other options to return serve, but it leaves me vulnerable to the flick, and I would take care to especially cover the flick to my backhand. I've watched other videos where they demonstrate how you could smash a flick, but those are usually training videos, where the receiver is mentally already expecting the flick.
So the question is, where on court should I put my receiving "mind" to to best handle a flick, and yet still be able to be aggressive enough to attack a regular short service, which is the main point of standing so close to the service line anyway?

Some really good pointers in this video. I honestly thought players just had the two signals. But to learn about the others will be helpful 👍
