    First, let's talk about the average income for all types of workers in the United States. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average worker earned $53c490 in 2019. The average hourly wage was $19.14 per hour.
    In this video, I share the average nurse salary and hourly wage so that you can determine whether you think nurses make good money.
    I provide the average nurse salary and hourly wage for the following:
    -LPN/LVN salary and hourly wage
    -RN salary and hourly wage
    -Nurse midwife salary and hourly wage
    -Nurse practitioner salary and hourly wage
    -CRNA (nurse anesthetist) salary and hourly wage
    -Clinical nurse specialist salary and hourly wage
    I also briefly discuss the basic educational requirements for becoming the different types of nurses.
    Overall, I think nurses do make good money. They earn a competitive salary, and have plenty of opportunity for advancement.

    Truth be told the way you make more money is by not staying in the same place for long periods of time. You move around gain experience then return to the place you like best and you salary will be higher then if you stayed at that same place that entire time and earned small raises every year

    I'm studying to be a nurse, and it can be really annoying when people tell me I won't get paid much. Clearly, RNs get paid a decent amount. "Poor pay" to me means under the average wage, which nurses definitely get paid more than the average wage.

    When we talk about salary it's important how many hours in a month you work. Because someone can say his/her big salary and everybody like: "Wow, cool, you're so successful!" But maybe this person works 6 days in week, 12 hours a day😀

    Yes, nurses make decent money. we old hags in Texas make about $60/hr. When you apply for a new job, always remember the posted salary range is a mere suggestion. If you have experience, push for the hourly you want. Hospitals will pay for experience but will also pay you what they want if you'll accept it. Know your worth.

    I hope salary isn’t the motivation for people to pursue nursing. I’m afraid people talk about what they want to become but don’t talk about what kind of nurse they want to be. This career is not for everyone and people have to get their priority straight because your pursuing isn’t just about you. Don’t let your selfish greed suffer other people.

    • @marhattariz
      @marhattariz 3 роки тому +8

      You're wrong in some ways because some people do pursue nursing for the money, and that does not make them bad nurses if they can do the job competitively. You can be greedy and do an amazing job as a nurse.

    • @rjsteeves
      @rjsteeves 3 роки тому +6

      I disagree entirely. I work as a nurse to make money, that is my primary goal. So how do I go about maximizing my income in a system where trade is voluntary and work opportunities are competitive? Simply put: I must maximize my value. I need to work better, be more thorough and more attentive than my colleagues. I need to make few mistakes or none at all and to constantly learn and improve. I need to develop new skills in order to be competent in an increasingly wider range of areas in nursing care. And thus I do exactly that.
      My motivation is entirely selfish; I work for myself and for my income. Not only do I make no apologies for this, I maintain there is nothing wrong with this approach whatsoever. The end result is that I work better, put in more hours, study harder and provide a higher level of care to my patients. I do this for the reward, and my patients benefit from my efforts.

      You can say that but reality is, people have bills and debt to pay. Having a connection to the healthcare field or any field will not retain anyone if the pay is low. That’s just facts. Look at the high turn over of teachers and Nurses that have to work overtime, have multiple jobs, or leave the field they love because of low pay. Inflation never stops.

    In Ontario, Canada:
    LPNs earn $20-23 (USD) in hospitals, less in other settings
    RNs start at $25 and cap at $36 (USD) after 8 years.
    NPs earn around $40 (USD).
    When you compare that to what American nurses earn, we are underpaid.

    Yes, short answer. Nurses are some of the better paid in the medical field. I work in ems. Nurses learn a lil about a lot . Paramedics learn a lot about a little. Be a nurse. Paramedics get the shaft with longer schooling.

      Agree. RNs were starting at $17/hr in my area of Alabama a year ago. Then Target started paying $15/hr to cashiers. RNs then were bumped to $22. coincidence lol. You can make 5-10 more an hr with many years experience and/or being in a speciality. Even in Alabama with the cost of living being a little lower the salaries are very low. I feel Reg RNs here should start at least a minimum of $40/hr and top around $60/hr with specialities pushing $5-$10/hr more to be competitive with the cost of living right now for this year. Even the cost of housing has went up $50,000+ more for a house since Spring. I have spoke to people working in factories right out of high school In Alabama that started out making more than an RN. At the new to experienced salary of $22-$30/hr here you will struggle financially. If you want to save for retirement that will get you a tiny home, tiny car and ramen noodles.
