are you dead serious?
+Litzy Aleman That whistle is in the 7th octave it may require you to properly train your voice as you go higher...
as in .... 😱
LAWR Actually is natural for females they just have choose if they want to access it.
@@justinesaludares531 if you are still alive pls educate me as to what the innuendo is. As in what, whistle while u twerk? bWoOp
Can you watch me sing whistle notes and tell me if I'm doing them incorrectly ? :)
It actually sounded good! I'm kinda jelly now, lol.
Girl you’re a pro😂
Ate zane you're so good 😄
2:02 Omg how did she knew I was just watching this because I wanted to sing it weird
Best comment haha
Helena S. Same! xD Omg. Lol
I really want to sing emotions! I wish Mariah and Ariana would teach me how to do the whistle voice! :(
OH MY GOD thank you I did it like 2 weeks later and it worked HOLY like thank you!
you're very right about the mental aspect. which is why we don't allow our vocal cords to thin out...trying a lip trill before you go for the high note
2:02 how'd she know😹
Thanks so much Sophie! Wow, I did it and was able to easily hit the C above high C, which I've never been able to easily sing in the past. So happy :)
Hi there, the term "falsetto" is commonly misused. Falsetto is simply a version of head voice where your vocal cords are completely open. When your cords are opened, you create a more breathy tone. This is because your cords are not clicking together to make sound, there's just letting air pass through. Since the goal is to have healthy, connected vocal cords, falsetto is used more to add "character" or "effect" to a song.
You are great!!! Fantastic!
Omg that is my JAM
This is the best video I saw on the whistle. Just with the "whoop", i am getting very high. I am not sure if it is a whistle or not but it is close and it is my first try with this "whoop" sound. Much appreciated.
Omg i'v been doing for like years now without progress and i have to say 😂the bending technic was clever lol
Can you do a video on riffs and runs and vibratos?
Omg this actually works xD
I can understand why all singers need to know and master the mix voice, but for me, whistle voice is appropriate for classical. for pop it's more of a vocal decoration that one can do without.
But she herself never went into the whistle notes, it was all her falsetto to flageolet.
Flageolet and whistle register are the same thing. You’re right, though, she never did whistle.
Vocal Station flageolet is the flute voice not the whistle voice
Purple Gohst there’s no difference, they’re all different terms to refer to the same thing.
no flageolet is not whistle. The technique is different. You can not produce flageolet sounds whistling.
Oto Kage they are synonyms.
It's hard to say the Bwoop
Yeah, it's easily mispronounced as either "poop" or something else rather more inappropriate.
hiii Sophie...thank u so much !! love love
Well super head voice sounds more connected than whistle tones do. So I wouldn’t say it’s a SHV
Thank you very much... it is very helpful... I can now do some whistle..
Wow I got this so quick! Cute curls btw! ;)
I love it :-D
My voice is naturally "squeaky" & high - which basically back fires any "good", rich vocal sound & have me sounding like a squawking kid.
:-(
Pls Help w/ suggestions to NOT sound squeaky & squawking!
Also ALL my hi notes - including whistle ones - sound 90% operatic & less than 5% like Maria & Mimi.
Hi Imeh - it is likely that you are pushing more than controlling your voice. I recommend checking out some of my other videos before you diagnosis yourself. It could be tension or it could be that your voice is simply weak since it hasn't been exercised properly! In this case you might be interested in my Vocal Primer offered on SophieShear.com
SophieShear
OOOOKKK,
I DO unfortunately have a weak, thin, airy voice.
Great for some jazz or classical show tunes (but NOT Broadway) but can be why l sound screechy.
Will chk out that item u mentioned.
PLS chk out some of my karaoke sining vids to get an idea & understanding how although l AM high pitched...l also squeak.
:-\
Sophie,
I had a quick question. I ordered your vocal primer for females. I know it came with 2 CDs, but I had been using the 1st. Were they the exact same exercises on both downloadable CDs? If not, then the new software I downloaded to clean up my computer deleted the second. If that is the case is there anything I can do?
Thanks!
I mean, I was going for the first part of Dreamlover, but I love Emotions too! 😂
does this work for male singers ?
at one of time my voice use to be airy cause I started doing whistle excerise but now I have strong head voices for bartione but now I am ready for whistle register and determine
Omg shes from the Fighting Temptations..
you have helped me my dream is to be a singer i just cant work out the high voice like ever
บวบ บ่วบ บ้วบ บ๊วบ บ๋วบ
wOaw I hit a sustained G6, and i am a dramatic baritone. cooL
Good
So I have a question. I’m bass transition to baritone. Anyways the highest I could go was A5 that was year go and I practice whistle voice excersise and go to a D6. Now I can hit E6. But here’s the issue I think practicing head voice and having high larynx stop me from hitting the D6. Usually I could hit a power B5 in headvoice. But now it’s weak I have determined to factor that either I didn’t practice the whistle excersise enough or that straining probably was a probably was the factor. Now I can still hit the note but only on rested larynx. So what imma do is what on larynx control excersise and continue the whistle voice excersise and I stop going for more cause once I hit the note I couldn’t hit again until minutes later the E6 but after that the highest my be C6. I learn to stop straining and allow my voice to develop until I can get me a vocal coach.
Pls Help, Im a baritone or countertenor, But anyway,, Sometimes i can hit whistle voice but sometimes no voice coming out, Just AIR :'( How can I prevent that??
Jazz Experience So am I and I gain three whistles notes from doing this excerise.
Can you tell me some TIPS to Longer the Whistle Register.??! Because when I try to Take a Longer Whistle tone I can't make it.??! or any TIPS to Harmonize the whistle.??! Thank you.! :)
hi please I am not sure if I am male alto
or countertenor as I have usually been
classified as both….I have a tessitura
(comfort zone) of C3 to E5 which is
better said as chest voice and I can go
all the way up to D6 in my head register
and in whistle register to A6 which I am
still perfecting and I have a flexible,
warm,rich,strong,agile and bright kinda
like a male version of naya rivera(aka
Santana Lopez in glee) voice……
generally
vocal fry: C2 to C3
chest and middle voice: C3 to E5
falsetto note: F5(not so strong its light)
head voice: G5 to C6
whistle voice: F6 to A6 (which am still
working on)
and a total range of C2 to A6 please
what would that make me be.please
reply soon.
+Siyanbola Fortune I am a voice technician and teacher with great experience in this area.In the real world, you are either one or the other. A countertenor fach implies that you are a soprano. Alto does have tenor crossover, just as a soprano usually use crossover into an alto range but may or may not have easy access to the notes of a tenor. Given your 'comfort zone,' I would honestly say that you present the obvious characteristics of a true Leggiero tenor. I have great experience and successful experience at that working with these types of voices (And I am one myself.)In order to say you have a "Middle voice" starting somewhere below E5 actually indicates that head voice (Or mix, depending on how you use it) is DEFINITELY starting approximately at A# BELOW your Tenor High C and then you're in a thinner head voice from here on. Keep in mind these are bridges, my friend and for men, it can sound thinner & sharper compared to a woman. I would beg to say that having smaller vocal folds makes it easier to slide up as high as you do with great flexibility. The smaller the fold the easier it is and sometimes a bit shaky. It's not unusual for the voice to sit this high, but there is also some physics and logic that come with it. Hope this helps.
+Gregory Sankowich yeah thanks for your help
Am I supposed to do this everyday?
Can you do a video on Natural Viibrato?
Started watching some of your videos and I like them alot My problems with singing definitely are blending my chest/head voice. I can sing fine in chest or head voice, Just not when I'm going from one to the other. Along with sometimes i feel like I'm straining my voice to much (getting a headache or i guess red in the face) and just singing to breathy and i just run out and feel fatigued.
Any videos/exercises to focus on, or suggestions to help me get started in the right direction?
Finnaly now damn add
I naturally sing more like a baritone, yet my head voice is very high.I tap into whistle register ever so often within a day. It varies from strong solid sounds to very weak wispy sounds. It often times connects to my head voice and is VERY strong and loud. How do I become consistent with it? Please help!
Carl Briggs Heya! I may be able to help~ Do you have any videos? I could try and look at what could be going wrong :)
leuan Darknell, I do not have any videos. i am very self-conscious about my singing. i know that this doesn't really help you to help me, but thank you any way. I also have another problem. I can sing as high as a dramatic mezzo soprano. Though, it seems that when I sing that high, it is not coming from my chest, and not really from my head either. It is very smooth and loud and RINGS. It is very clear. What i don't understand though is that i can not sing that high in chest. i crack. the really high notes seem to come from somewhere else. i dont understand this at all.
Carl Briggs well it means ur strength is mostly in ur headvoice since its so strong its easier but maybe if u learn mixed voice ur chances on cracking will lessen Im sure but its just my opinion
+Axel D. Rodriguez Thanks for the advice. Also, how do I learn to sing clearly while in mix? Ir seems to sound rather slurred because I can't really enunciate.
Its not that easy but I think it depends on where u out ur resonance for example I put it in the hard palate so it gives kinda metallic and annoying yet airy sound lol its hard to explain and try to do tongue excersices just to loosen the tongue so u can enunciate better I guess
Thx

Look up "Pentatonix Whistle Notes" and you will be amazed!
Hey, Sophie, I adore your relaxed approach :)
So, I have a question - I tend to be a lower female voice, between contralto and mezzo... so anything in the soprano range is hard for me to sustain. I can access a whistle register though, which is awesome, but I can only do it on three notes :D I mean, when I do lip trills with the piano, at some point my voice skips notes and decides to land somewhere around C7.
How do I connect the registers from the highest to whistle, and is it damaging to push myself with lip trills on the piano?
Hey radian I know im not Sophie but if I may help you could you give me your full range. Can you really being a contralto go as high as C7?? That is rare. Going higher and higher with lip trills aren't bad for you because it stimulates relaxation and correct breathing. But make sure you aren't pushing your self and not straining. When I started doing whistles I could only do whistles in 2 notes LOL (but I a man so it's harder) but with training I learned to go up to F#6. Also your problem that sometimes you're voice skips to a higher note. I had a problem where I don't know exactly what happened my voice cracked and went supper high but I kinda doesn't count (at least for me) because it didn't feel like singing it felt like squeaking. Just breath open your throat and research alot the more you research and explore your voice the better.
+2015newyear Oh, damn, you are right, I am mistaken! I can go up to D6#, not C7 ;) Totally mixed up the octaves. Also, I can't really keep a neutral larynx when I hit the whistle notes. It needs to go up a bit, otherwise it's impossible for me to do the very tiny whistle sound.
Contraltos can actually go high as well, it's just the type of vocal tone that is different, not so much the capability. For example, Annie Lennox - she can go very high and is trained in classical singing as well, even though she is a contralto. Thank you for the relaxation tips :)
+Radina D. oh, and my full range is D3# to F5#, and then I skip to the whistle note of D6#. :D
This really made me laugh😂
hiiii sophie...i love to sing but my problem is i can't do the falsetto voice ..can u teach me how to do falsetto voice...song like Daniel bedingfield - if you're not the one...i have problem to do falsetto...when i do falsetto is note so nice and beautiful falsetto like my other friends do it.. im losing my key and note in my singing too sometimes..TQ
did you add twang to this "bwoop" sound?
OMG Sophie ... I can whistle G#7
Hi Sophie :) I know this is very random but what is your number one exercise for developing the voice for a beginner? Thank you!! :)
I am not able to properly sing in whistle register. I can barely hold the tone for 5 sec. Need help
I wanna ask if i sing in whistle register
Yes I'm living proof
I can whistle.... :)
I've tried that "bwoop" thing and... there were no sound until later there is a soft sound coming out but I can't do it again.. I was just so shocked about it and I just couldn't do it again.
Exact same...have you got it since?
is it passible to connect head voice and whistle voice and sing without a breake?
Yeah, I've seen Brett Manning talk about it, and he demonstrated it too.
Of course, that is actually how you train/access your whistle/flageolet, from your head voice/falsetto up to the highest note you can possibly hit and train it to be thinner and thinner so it is easier to hit.
I try and hit whistle notes, but they sound scratchy and kind of hurt my throat. How do I sing from my stomach and not my throat? I'm trying to hit he high note in Emotions, but I have to settle for hitting it an octave lower. How do I fix that? Thanks so much!
Did you study SLS?
Hi there,
Do you have a video link where I can listen to a clip of your voice?
I hit a whistle note once without strain when I had a hoarse throat. After that I couldn't hit it anymore. Why is this and can I get it back? Aye does anyone know?
yah
when I try to whistle when I had a sore throat I hit it w/out a strain
and once my sore throat is gone .. okay strain again
Whistle voice is with a neutral larynx, thus everything should be relaxed. You can't get it back you already have it with different exercises such as the one showed in the video you'll be able to use it.
So I got over a cold about a week ago... but now I have to put a little bit more air into my head/falsetto. Also, when I try to go into whistle register, my voice is unpredictable at worst, and okay at best. It sometimes sounds like how it's supposed to sound: clear, high, flute-y kind of tone, but other times it sounds scratchy and shaky. Do I have excess mucus on my folds, or is it something else? Thanks.
The whistle register is unpredictable even queen Mariah Carey has said that some days her whistles dissapear and she can't do the properly. But if it is TOO much unpredictable than you need to check your technique because you may be causing vocal fatigue or vocal damage
Everybody needs to know that whistles notes start at D6 and I can two notes to E6 from doing this excerise.
So does the training helps you do the whistle tone ?
before you really attempt making whistle notes, this training will prepare your voice for super-high sounds. and also it's such a warm-up. then you are gonna attempt for your whistles.
oh thanks for the note
Also, if you're older than 15, do not try to push your voice too much cause you can cause a permanent damage. Cause my cousin almost lost his voice when he was 13.
Hahahah, I'd do anything to be able to sing Emotions :P
Me when the tea is done
I can push because my are closing
Can a person learn whistle tones or are they born with it?
They learn
You can find it. you must always play your vocal, but in a good way. I have whistle tone when I was 12 and now.
Well no one is born with it you just have to believe in yourself and try!!!! :-)
I think the reason I can't hit these notes is because I have so much tension in my neck other places that there shouldn't be tension in
Sounds like you are not singing light enough. Float them by as if you are speaking softly. Once you have precision in that, you can add volume :)
I can whistle but only whe I inhale
I heard that Bobby Brown was jealous of Whitney Houston's super head voice. I also heard that Whitney was jealous of Bobby's super head bit on the side.
OMG same here #Regina Jean
"version of headvoice" lols
can you give me a tips
Thx well i did it but..... i dont have a mic XD
1:00
yeppers
You kinda look like Amanda Bynes
Do men have a whistle voice?
That was NOT the whistle register !!! Like 1000 miles away from it
+Max powers Actually just a few notes off haha..But this is definitely not whistle for sure.
You're dope.
is your head supposed to hurt? mine does Lol XD
1:01
Lol
WHAT A GREAT Exercise, I Can whistle tone now without any Effort.. :)) Uhmm Ms Sophie can you check out my whistle video if Im doing it Right? :)) THNX :)
Those lips are made for Kissin'
haha.
The noise ain't the only thing that's dopey. Sorry. Wasn't helpful.
Wow. How she over enunciates is a little..... ahm...
Such total BS.... you would do singers a service to say not all singers have the ability to sing in the whistle register. Just practicing this silly exercise will not help 90% of people. You either have a whistle register or you dont. You cannot train it.
Yes you can. Im a male baritone and have never shown any sign of any whistle register. Though through theory and loads of exercise and practice which included this video i accesed my whistle register which is amazing since i am a baritone.
+GeneralRelativity but what is the purpose of singing in a whistle register as a baritone? It's a vocal trick, adds nothing to the song...
Christopher Gambol Its not a vocal "trick" its a way to expand your range and hit highet notes that you would be able to in head voice. And it does add somethig to the song "loving you" by minnie "emotions" by mariah. Whistles can display loads of different textures and emotions.
+Einstein2002
OMG, I've the exact same situation. I'm a baritone, and I just studied how it worked, messed with my cords a bit, and ended up doing my first whistle about two weeks ago. It sounds messy, but it's a whistle!
Also, it can definitely have an effect on the song. Some use it to sound like a guitar by adding rasp/grit to it. Having a wider range opens up a whole slew of interesting sounds and combinations. I, myself want to get a bit more of an alien sound in my music, and the texture of a whistle is too perfect for it.
Christopher Gambol - Not BS at all sir! Testing limits and experimenting is the only way to discover new things about yourself. While it is true that no songs I would be interested in singing contain extremely high notes, finding a way to access extremely high notes and training up there makes notes that once seemed high a cake walk. Having said that, these young kids spend way too much time bragging about which notes they can hit while sounding like absolute crap because they neglect everything else, so I see where you are coming from. There are definitely more important foundational things anyone who wants to become a great singer should be spending more time working on, but to each their own. Not all singers can sing in a whistle tone, however, they can use this exercise to discover how much higher they can sing.
you have helped me my dream is to be a singer i just cant work out the high voice like ever
