    Hi there, the term "falsetto" is commonly misused. Falsetto is simply a version of head voice where your vocal cords are completely open. When your cords are opened, you create a more breathy tone. This is because your cords are not clicking together to make sound, there's just letting air pass through. Since the goal is to have healthy, connected vocal cords, falsetto is used more to add "character" or "effect" to a song.

    I can understand why all singers need to know and master the mix voice, but for me, whistle voice is appropriate for classical. for pop it's more of a vocal decoration that one can do without.

  • @thagoofykid1018

    So I have a question. I’m bass transition to baritone. Anyways the highest I could go was A5 that was year go and I practice whistle voice excersise and go to a D6. Now I can hit E6. But here’s the issue I think practicing head voice and having high larynx stop me from hitting the D6. Usually I could hit a power B5 in headvoice. But now it’s weak I have determined to factor that either I didn’t practice the whistle excersise enough or that straining probably was a probably was the factor. Now I can still hit the note but only on rested larynx. So what imma do is what on larynx control excersise and continue the whistle voice excersise and I stop going for more cause once I hit the note I couldn’t hit again until minutes later the E6 but after that the highest my be C6. I learn to stop straining and allow my voice to develop until I can get me a vocal coach.

    hi please I am not sure if I am male alto
    or countertenor as I have usually been
    classified as both….I have a tessitura
    (comfort zone) of C3 to E5 which is
    better said as chest voice and I can go
    all the way up to D6 in my head register
    and in whistle register to A6 which I am
    still perfecting and I have a flexible,
    warm,rich,strong,agile and bright kinda
    like a male version of naya rivera(aka
    Santana Lopez in glee) voice……
    generally
    vocal fry: C2 to C3
    chest and middle voice: C3 to E5
    falsetto note: F5(not so strong its light)
    head voice: G5 to C6
    whistle voice: F6 to A6 (which am still
    working on)
    and a total range of C2 to A6 please
    what would that make me be.please
    reply soon.

      +Siyanbola Fortune I am a voice technician and teacher with great experience in this area.In the real world, you are either one or the other. A countertenor fach implies that you are a soprano. Alto does have tenor crossover, just as a soprano usually use crossover into an alto range but may or may not have easy access to the notes of a tenor. Given your 'comfort zone,' I would honestly say that you present the obvious characteristics of a true Leggiero tenor. I have great experience and successful experience at that working with these types of voices (And I am one myself.)In order to say you have a "Middle voice" starting somewhere below E5 actually indicates that head voice (Or mix, depending on how you use it) is DEFINITELY starting approximately at A# BELOW your Tenor High C and then you're in a thinner head voice from here on. Keep in mind these are bridges, my friend and for men, it can sound thinner & sharper compared to a woman. I would beg to say that having smaller vocal folds makes it easier to slide up as high as you do with great flexibility. The smaller the fold the easier it is and sometimes a bit shaky. It's not unusual for the voice to sit this high, but there is also some physics and logic that come with it. Hope this helps.

      leuan Darknell, I do not have any videos. i am very self-conscious about my singing. i know that this doesn't really help you to help me, but thank you any way. I also have another problem. I can sing as high as a dramatic mezzo soprano. Though, it seems that when I sing that high, it is not coming from my chest, and not really from my head either. It is very smooth and loud and RINGS. It is very clear. What i don't understand though is that i can not sing that high in chest. i crack. the really high notes seem to come from somewhere else. i dont understand this at all.

    • @lexarodriguez694
      @lexarodriguez694 10 років тому

      Its not that easy but I think it depends on where u out ur resonance for example I put it in the hard palate so it gives kinda metallic and annoying yet airy sound lol its hard to explain and try to do tongue excersices just to loosen the tongue so u can enunciate better I guess

    Hey, Sophie, I adore your relaxed approach :)
    So, I have a question - I tend to be a lower female voice, between contralto and mezzo... so anything in the soprano range is hard for me to sustain. I can access a whistle register though, which is awesome, but I can only do it on three notes :D I mean, when I do lip trills with the piano, at some point my voice skips notes and decides to land somewhere around C7.
    How do I connect the registers from the highest to whistle, and is it damaging to push myself with lip trills on the piano?

    • @Einstein-eq7tc
      @Einstein-eq7tc 8 років тому +1

      Hey radian I know im not Sophie but if I may help you could you give me your full range. Can you really being a contralto go as high as C7?? That is rare. Going higher and higher with lip trills aren't bad for you because it stimulates relaxation and correct breathing. But make sure you aren't pushing your self and not straining. When I started doing whistles I could only do whistles in 2 notes LOL (but I a man so it's harder) but with training I learned to go up to F#6. Also your problem that sometimes you're voice skips to a higher note. I had a problem where I don't know exactly what happened my voice cracked and went supper high but I kinda doesn't count (at least for me) because it didn't feel like singing it felt like squeaking. Just breath open your throat and research alot the more you research and explore your voice the better.

    • @kukundrela
      @kukundrela 8 років тому

      +2015newyear Oh, damn, you are right, I am mistaken! I can go up to D6#, not C7 ;) Totally mixed up the octaves. Also, I can't really keep a neutral larynx when I hit the whistle notes. It needs to go up a bit, otherwise it's impossible for me to do the very tiny whistle sound.
      Contraltos can actually go high as well, it's just the type of vocal tone that is different, not so much the capability. For example, Annie Lennox - she can go very high and is trained in classical singing as well, even though she is a contralto. Thank you for the relaxation tips :)

    So I got over a cold about a week ago... but now I have to put a little bit more air into my head/falsetto. Also, when I try to go into whistle register, my voice is unpredictable at worst, and okay at best. It sometimes sounds like how it's supposed to sound: clear, high, flute-y kind of tone, but other times it sounds scratchy and shaky. Do I have excess mucus on my folds, or is it something else? Thanks.

    • @Einstein-eq7tc
      @Einstein-eq7tc 8 років тому

      The whistle register is unpredictable even queen Mariah Carey has said that some days her whistles dissapear and she can't do the properly. But if it is TOO much unpredictable than you need to check your technique because you may be causing vocal fatigue or vocal damage

    I think the reason I can't hit these notes is because I have so much tension in my neck other places that there shouldn't be tension in

      Sounds like you are not singing light enough. Float them by as if you are speaking softly. Once you have precision in that, you can add volume :)

    I heard that Bobby Brown was jealous of Whitney Houston's super head voice. I also heard that Whitney was jealous of Bobby's super head bit on the side.

    Such total BS.... you would do singers a service to say not all singers have the ability to sing in the whistle register. Just practicing this silly exercise will not help 90% of people. You either have a whistle register or you dont. You cannot train it.

    • @Einstein-eq7tc
      @Einstein-eq7tc 8 років тому +7

      Yes you can. Im a male baritone and have never shown any sign of any whistle register. Though through theory and loads of exercise and practice which included this video i accesed my whistle register which is amazing since i am a baritone.

      +GeneralRelativity but what is the purpose of singing in a whistle register as a baritone? It's a vocal trick, adds nothing to the song...

    • @Einstein-eq7tc
      @Einstein-eq7tc 8 років тому +12

      Christopher Gambol Its not a vocal "trick" its a way to expand your range and hit highet notes that you would be able to in head voice. And it does add somethig to the song "loving you" by minnie "emotions" by mariah. Whistles can display loads of different textures and emotions.

      OMG, I've the exact same situation. I'm a baritone, and I just studied how it worked, messed with my cords a bit, and ended up doing my first whistle about two weeks ago. It sounds messy, but it's a whistle!
      Also, it can definitely have an effect on the song. Some use it to sound like a guitar by adding rasp/grit to it. Having a wider range opens up a whole slew of interesting sounds and combinations. I, myself want to get a bit more of an alien sound in my music, and the texture of a whistle is too perfect for it.

      Christopher Gambol - Not BS at all sir! Testing limits and experimenting is the only way to discover new things about yourself. While it is true that no songs I would be interested in singing contain extremely high notes, finding a way to access extremely high notes and training up there makes notes that once seemed high a cake walk. Having said that, these young kids spend way too much time bragging about which notes they can hit while sounding like absolute crap because they neglect everything else, so I see where you are coming from. There are definitely more important foundational things anyone who wants to become a great singer should be spending more time working on, but to each their own. Not all singers can sing in a whistle tone, however, they can use this exercise to discover how much higher they can sing.
