    Mine tend to fight me as well, particularly if I'm already stressed or tired. Try vocalizing with the compression underneath the chin 3 times a week. (Demonstrated in this video.) Over time, much like a massage, the toxins that are trapped in the muscles causing them to strain will go away. Drink alot of water after to help the toxins flush.

    Hey there, don't worry I have a hard time with the trills to! And you may feel silly at first, just make sure you're alone. :) The lip roll is an excellent way to begin warming up because it relaxes the face muscles.You can also do the lip roll by simple sliding up and down a scale a few times, going a little higher each time.

    honestly that has been my biggest problem. for some reason, i think due to childhood stress, my digastric muscles are active most of the time and it causes a lot of annoyance and some pain even when im not singing. ill try these exercises, it seemed to help in just a few minutes.

    Hi, Sophie! First of all, I want to take you for sharing your knowledge with us. Secondly, I have a question concerning the exercises in this video. When do we practice them? Right before we sing to reduce the tension or do we do them at home at a regular basis for a long term reduction of tension? I thank you for your answer in advance.

  • @1108vocalstudio
    @1108vocalstudio  11 років тому

    Hi Chris, try holding down your throat muscles or "digastric muscles" while you vocalize. To find these, place both of your thumbs underneath your chin and swallow. When you vocalize, anytime you feel them tensing up, push up on them and fight back. You can also try vocalizing with your tongue sticking out to relieve tension in the back of your throat. Good luck!

    Hi there, thanks for watching. For more tips about the diaphragm, also check out my video "The Diaphragm Rip-Off." And to build a mixed voice (which will allow you sing high while singing powerfully) try vocalizing 3 times a week with the exercises in my video "Fastest Way to Add Notes to your Vocal Range."

  • @kyle_hill_864

    How many times a day and for long a period of time should I do this for as a boy? And if done properly, should yoy eventually be able to hit higher notes?

  • @1108vocalstudio
    @1108vocalstudio  11 років тому

    Hi Mario, great question. The answer is simple, if you run out of air quickly, it means that you're using (or spending) too much air. You need to focus on very clean, pouty sounds which will suction the vocal cords together a bit tighter, keeping the airflow to a minimum. There is an exercise for this on my video called Top 5 Questions About Singing. Good luck, and follow me on Twitter @SophieShear

  • @1108vocalstudio
    @1108vocalstudio  11 років тому

    Hey there, thanks for watching! Try easing up on the volume as you reach the higher notes, while maintaining a narrow shape of the mouth. Avoid "splatting" out your lips, or stretching them horizontally. Try vocalizing with my video "MIxed Voice Application." This will give you a good example of this.

  • @1108vocalstudio
    @1108vocalstudio  11 років тому

    If it's an exercises on a scale, only go as high (or as low) as you can go on the scale without feeling pain. How often you should do the exercise....it depends on the exercise. In the beginning I usually recommend 3-4 times a week.

  • @lostluvr86
