I like to know if you can help me figure out why?, we purchased the 2019 xc40 in July 2018 and we took it to Volvo (Ramses Volvo NJ) for a schedule maintenance / oil change on Thursday 1/17/19. We drove the car all through until We placed the car in the garage for the first time “ever” on Saturday 1/19/19. On Tuesday 1/22/19 my wife drove the car to work and back to the garage when she found a stream of motor oil inside the garage floor , It was obvious the oil came from the Volvo. I checked the oil status on the cars entertainment consul and it checked to the max having no low level of oils or any other signs of maintenance for that matter.
What could have caused this oil leak?
Note: I parked the car placing a floor construction paper under the engine and I have not noticed any oil leaks at all. This is rocking my head!!! HELP me figure this out??????

    • @KylePancis

there is a pan so they may have made a little mess on it where it then dripped down. Another issue could be from the drain plug on the oil housing, but if that was an issue you would have certainly ran low on oil. that is the only thing that comes to mind. I suggest just having them do a quick check just in case. Or if your up to it, get under there and check it. Keep me posted!

Volvo makes GREAT cars! How did I live so long and have so many cars before discovering Volvo? We‘re now on our third one. They run great and are very dependable. And, like advertised, incredibly safe. A relative totaled one and walked away without a scratch. We‘re believers now!

This is a very good video but a couple minor items that I've summarized from all the comments. The filter wrench is 86mm or possibly 86.4mm and as stated in the video the oil filter housing drain is t40. The lisle 61660 was stated as a good fit. Volvo changed the oil spec to 0-w20 euro spec and it calls for 6.2 quarts apparently. The stupid PIA bottom cover is t30 Torx bits plus 2 side clips. You can suck the oil out with a vacuum pump, there is a capped hole if you don't have a dipstick where Volvo saved like $5 (don't get me started) but this matters little since you still need to get under the car to change the oil filter anyway. And yes it's easier to have the dealer change your oil (#troll comments) but you don't know what oil or products they actually use or if they even did it right.

  • @theclutch19
    @theclutch19 2 роки тому +10

2:19 you didn't change the filter housing drain plug o-ring!!! 2:30 that looks like a weeeeee bit more than 3 ft-lbs torque! Also, get an 86mm flute wrench. 2:05 you're going to crack/distort that filter housing doing it your way. The filter housing torques at 18 ft-lbs, the 17mm drain plug at 28 ft-lbs.

  • @peterwojnar5781

It is a good idea to clean out the oil filter cartridge, as that sits with the filter so there will be a lot of grunge in that housing. Best to use some brake clean spray that dries without any residue and wipe out with a lint free shop rag.

Please do 5000 mile oil changes regardless of whether they claim its a 10,000 mile interval. You will avoid so many mechanical issues and your car will last much longer just by doing the extra oil changes. I drive a Toyota, which also recommends 10K oil changes in the service schedule...and yet the oil maintenance light in the car turns on at 5K miles. The engineers designed it that way because cars need 5K mile oil changes! It's the marketing dept that claims 10K mile oil intervals because they want you to buy another car

UPDATE: We took the 2019 Volvo XC40 to Ramses Volvo in NJ Wednesday 1/23/19 and they found the gasket that goes around the oil filter was broken in the process of the original oil change Thursday 1/17/19. The service manager at Ramses Volvo said they had been having a manufacture problem with the oil pan gasket on the new models, but not in this case. The problem was solved very quickly by the dealer. I like Volvo for it's safety but i don't understand why they continued to use oil house and filter. Why not use a normal oil filter like the American and Japanese? Why make it complicated when you can make it simple. T THIS t that what is wrong with a nut and a bolt?

Volvo does this because it's a more eco-friendly option. The paper filters are less wasteful than a steel housing + paper filter for every oil change.

You should user 0W20 oil, now your pistonrings will seize...... 5W20 is also recommended.

@@Icutmetal Nouen123 is not trolling, a Volvo TSB 18 months ago advised a switch to Castrol Edge 0W-20 due to a spate of catastrophic engine failures. Particularly hybrid models which have much longer warm up cycle.

I think you don,t use the right oil. Use castrol edge 0W20. Acea c5. Or another with the same specefications.

I don't know why they don't use just a spin on filter.

    • @daleschick9005

Several reasons: 1) They are wasteful as most people don't recycle them properly 2) They don't include a drain plug like the newer, more innovative housing 3) The newer housing allows more throughput with the same amount of pressure, as the surface area of the filter is higher and the inlet is larger.

Po raz pierwszy wymieniałem olej w silniku w mym volvo, jakie miałem problemy z odkręceniem obudowy filtra , bo jakiś pseudo mechanik nie posmarował uszczelki olejem w Greensboro volvo servis

I wouldn't be pouring ceramic additives into engines which are turbo and supercharged! The poor bearings and seals! This will undoubtably knock thousands of miles off the life of these components.

This is an inferior video. It is missing details and is misleading showing the use of a caliper type tool to remove the filter. This tool is not a suitable tool for a 2020 Volvo XC60. I wish I had not viewed this video because it resulted in me wasting hours of time. And two days without my car. If you are going to do a video to help others, may I suggest that you take the time to make it complete.

There should be 8 screw with t-30- and two clips on the side. Some are broken off due to frustration of taking it off.
