G'day it's Steven from down under It's good to see younger generations enjoying the first two Superman movies as much as I did, I was just a boy when Superman was released here in 1978 and ever since that time my imagination was captured, and Mr.Christopher Reeve made me believe that a man could actually fly, his charisma and Mr.John Williams music score all contributed to these two films being such a success. These films played a huge part in my life when it came to movies, as did the first three Star Wars movies. RIP Christopher
@@stevenalexander403 thank you so much for sharing! Unfortunately I’m a dime in a dozen and probably one of the few people around my age who actually loved (most of them) and watched them! I was 6 when I saw Christopher Reeve as Superman. I remember being in the cinema, whispering to my Mum asking her whens Superman coming on because I was impatient and the first part of the movie took too long to get to Christopher Reeve. I wasnt interested in the backstory or the boy, just wanted to see the amazing, gorgeous Superman! Loved it! He was perfect for the role, no one else comes close. Thanks for your clip, great work.

Christopher Reeve's Superman is half the reason why I became a fan in the 1st place (the Superman: Man of Steel toyline was the other half) & believe it or not, Superman IV was the movie that I 1st saw him in. Now while I think the superhero movie has been improved upon since the 1978 Superman film's release, there's no doubt that it set the standard. Casting little-known/unknown actors as the title hero whilst surrounding them with veteran actors. Big, bombastic & memorable theme music (I maintain that the Williams theme is the best superhero theme music ever, followed closely by Alan Silvestri's Avengers theme & Danny Elfman's Batman theme). Treating the source material with respect. It started in 1978. As for Superman III, Reeve was by far the best part. He played 3 parts believably & to perfection: nerdy Clark, Superman & Evil Superman. If I had to pick my favorite moments from each: 1. Superman finding Lois's dead body. Morose, but the score, the pacing, the shots & most importantly, Reeve's acting with barely a word should have more than earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor (the scene where he almost reveals his identity to Lois should have sealed the deal). 2. Superman restoring the American flag to the White House. The heroic theme music, the iconography of the Man of Steel carrying the American flag & him saying to the President "Sorry I've been away so long. I won't let you down again." 3. Superman defeating Evil Superman, doing the shirt rip & repairing the damage to the oil tanker. Pure Superman. Also feels like you can conquer your worst impulses to be your best self again. 4. Superman's speech at the end of the film about how world peace can't be given by him, but we have to want it & that we have the potential to achieve it. Donner Cut: Superman punching Non into the ESB's spire. So badass. He should have clocked Ursa too because the hammer of justice is unisex.
Superman I is not only my favorite Superman movie, it is in my opinion STILL the best comic book movie ever made. This coming from a guy who is all about the MCU and loved all the Marvel and Avengers movies.
The scene where SM is holding Lois after the earthquake is gut-wrenching. Seriously the most touching moment in the entire movie and then that scream of pain and anger. Wow... Commenting on the "reversing" time scene...SM isn't making the world reverse and spin backwards. It was the only way, at the time with current movie making techniques, they could convey SM going back in time, not "reversing" it. So, the world isn't spinning backwards, per se. It's SM going back in time. Also, you'll notice he even goes back in time a little too far initially. After he changes direction for a few revolutions, SM looks down to see where he is in time and stops moving "forward through time" at the point in he wanted to be at to prevent Lois from dying. 100% agree this is THEE superhero movie of all time. In my top three at #1 with Batman Begins and Ironman at numbers 2 and 3.
Still the greatest superhero movie of all time. My father and little cousin told me at the time that it was the greatest movie they had evervsern in their life.
Awesome video and to see someone so young, enjoying this movie made way before you were born and you “nailed it” and you “get it.” Thank you. You get a thumbs up AND a subscriber. 120…October 19, 2024.
The majority of the sequel had been shot by Richard Donner during the schedule of the first film. After ongoing conflicts with the Salkinds (not WB) Donner walked away. Years later, the Donner cut would be released on home video.
The special effects aren't "hokey." They were state of the art and incredible in their day and still remain so today...they're much better than the CGI cartoons people today seem to think look so great.
No other movies using CGI made me believe "a man can fly." I even liked George Reeves from the 1950's TV show "Adventures of Superman" than any Superman after the Christopher Reeve films. Flying sequences using With CGI showed a tiny Superman and the landings and take offs were reminiscent of the 1940's B-movies with Kirk Allan playing Superman with animation used to shown him flying. I love how George Reeves' Superman flew in from outside windows. George Reeves had a Black Belt in Karate.
In most of the scenes you chose, the music does the job, not necessarily the acting. Cristopher Reeve RIP and the action moments were amazing, don't get me wrong, but the same theme music put it all together. Just a final remark: the last scene, taken from "The Donner Cut" of Superman II, was a screen test for both actors, so its differences in wardrobe and such are a product of that fact.
Superman's fight with his evil self at the junkyard was more a psychological warfare. And the best way they could portray it back in the day was to show it through physical fights. But it was actually a battle that happened all in his mind... Well, so I think. Lol.
I love the first two Superman movies but I never understood why people got upset when Henry Cavell's Superman kills Zod to save a family but in Superman 2, 10:14, Superman kills Zod when he (Zod) has no power at all. Why is that?
Well let's see 1. There are deleted scenes that show the Zod, Non, and Ursa being arrested and led away by the Artic police. And yes it's a deleted scene but their fate in the movie is s but more ambiguous as to what happens to them 2. Which leads to the 2nd point. The sheer violence of the way Zod was killed. 3. The situation was ridiculous. It was clear Superman ( Cavil) could of stopped Zod other than snarling his neck. There have been numerous videos on everything from putting his hands in front of Zods eyes to simply just moving him. 4. Over all tone. Reeves Superman was already established as a hero, defender of life, inspiration, Good guy. Unfortunately for Cavil, not his fault, his Superman was more like Sourman. Morally ambiguous, where Reeves Superman took the fight away from the City when thi is got really bad , Cavils version is outright responsible for the deaths of thousands of people. I don't understand why people bring up this example to explain away the violence, and sheer apathy of Snyder's Superman. No it's not an update to modern times. Hell even to this day Superman is still refered to as the big blue boy scout. Its total deconstruction, and total oblivion of the character. Which is why it ultimately failed. There really is no comparison to what happened in Man of Steel which was the introduction of that Superman, Superman 2, on where Supes good, moral character had already been established. The two examples are apples to oranges , and often only used to make excuses for Zack Snyder's horrible interpretation of who is supposed to be the most moral, hopeful, person.

Here’s a fact: The physical actor for Darth Vader helped Reeve bulk up for his iconic role so he didn’t have to wear a muscle suit under his costume
