I’m only 21 but I grew up being bullied in both public school and non-public school as a kid growing up and all my life, I’ve wanted homeschooling even in high school which I only graduated when I was 19. Not that long ago and anyway, so I’ve wanted to do homeschooling for my children in the future just to prevent all of that from happening to my kids and I’m in California so this was really helpful. I think I might do the private homeschooling option over the tutor or the other option just because I am capable of teaching. I used to teach some of the special ed kids in my classes that couldn’t understand their schoolwork and after each class, I would be like a little teacher. I also have wanted to be a stay-at-home dad that homeschools my kids because I never got the opportunity to be homeschooled when I was a kid and a teenager and I hated it. So this was really helpful. Thank you again. I don’t have any children right now, but I plan to in four years when I’m 25 because by that point I can legally start fostering and adopting at that age which is what I want to do on top of having biological kids of my own. Three biological and three adopted sound good to me. I honestly have the patience and capacity for taking care of kids and same goes for homeschooling. I just know I don’t want my kids going to school with other children from other families and risk getting discriminated against and bullied and attacked. And also the thing with school shootings nowadays have me even more scared. Like I do not want my kids going to public school or private school because I’m not religious and I’m not teaching my kids that stuff and non-public school wasn’t really helpful for me in high school so I’m just not taking the chance with my own kids. I also was adopted so that’s how I know I want to have adopted kids and biological ones. I had siblings who were my adopted parents biological children however I always wanted an adopted sibling who understood what I went through as a kid, I never got that opportunity and so I plan to do that for my kids. Those three choices you mentioned, don't feel like they're very great cuz no matter what I choose, the state has to have their hands in all of it and tell us how and when to to things. 🤦🏻♀️ I have so much research to do still. I'm going to be a homeschool mom for the first time starting the next school year.
California allows a lot of freedom with homeschooling. I have homeschooled 3 years here. There are other states that are very complicated, but we actually have it pretty good.

PSPs and independent charter schools geared towards homeschoolers are not the same. The former are private and the latter are privately run but publicly funded. Charter schools dole out some funds for activities and/or supplies and are very popular. In my experience they are the most common way that people hs in California. When I homeschooled my kids for a few years I went that route but if I had to do it again I’d do the PSA because with a charter you have to do a lot of paperwork and end-of-year standardized tests (yuck) but you do not get the benefit of a sense of community that comes with a school.
Your not alone, I'm here in Tulare California going through the same but I still have a high schooler and a 4th grader in school and 1 at home that I am homeschooling at my pace, the school has been sending me a child welfare visit but you need to know that we have Rights and We have the right to excersize Our Rights as Parents. We have the Right to stay silent remember that also, when I attended school here in California we were taught Not to speak to strangers, so when they show up at my house, I do Not open the door or talk to them at all. But I know pretty soon I probably will have to stand in front of a judge if there is a warrant placed on me or if there is a Court order. Although nothing like that has happened, but time is soon coming and come what may I will have to stand before a judge and even though I worry, I know One thing that Jesus said Not to Worry because in due season He will put his words in my mouth what to speak. So I try not to worry but I do because I Know that my little ones could be taken by CPS, but I refuse to worry and I just Prayed to the LORD to help me in this situation and I know that He is Faithful even if I have to spend time in Jail for His Name Sake. So I encourage anybody going through the same situation to cast your cares upon the LORD and Worry Not. Blessings and Greetings in Christ Jesus Our LORD. We were born in God's perfect timing for different purposes and if this is one way to bring the message of the Gospel or just to show our Testimony to others. It's been stated that California HS'rs have to file a affidavit. NO they do not. That's not "independent" homeschooling. Independent is NO AFFIDAVIT FILED. This is how I homeschooled and if this is incorrect please provide the recent law stating that it is illegal to homeschool without an affidavit in California
Yea if I we don't have to file a PSA then I'd rather not. What I read on the CDE website was you'd have to file a PSA otherwise your child will still be tracked by the district and can be marked as a truant and then I assume they will come looking. But a PSA let's the district and state know to basically leave you alone because you are private homeschooling. Keep us posted if there is a way around filing this PSA.
I would suggest you go and file it to cover yourself just in case… it’s simple and takes less than 15 mins. I did it this year with my two. If you are filing the PSA in California for the first time, you can do it anytime during that first year. (I know this because I pulled mine out of public earlier this year) After that, it has to be filled out for each subsequent year thereafter between October 1-15th. Hope this helps!
How would California know what hours you're teaching your kids? Can't you just fudge the times? My wife gets off a few hours before I do but after the 4pm cutoff. Also, are immunization records mandatory?
I have a daughter that is 12 she hasn't been in school we're homeless im scared they take her away from me. I don't have family to support me i was molested and abused at the age of 9 if been in a deep depression .I just want my daughter to know what it feels like to be a kid 😢😢😢 I need some help and guidance 🙏
I like option 2 charter saltilite program , however they provide books and materials or i do ?. Whats average cost per year ? Finally a video i can understand . Thanks

How do you apply for home school funding?
There is no funding from the state if you homeschool. You must pay for all curriculum, supplies, etc.

There’s no funding here in NV. I think only AZ and FL give homeschoolers funding.
You probably already got the info by now but you’d have to go through a charter school to get the funds.
