Love this, Malorie! You did such a great job sharing your experience and encouraging people who may be skeptical. I know before I moved to California, this would have been helpful to me!
This was so so helpful! I just found your channel. Currently looking into homeschooling- I have a preschool aged daughter and I’m so excited to learn more!
Glad it was helpful! I have a preschool learning at home video if you’re curious about the curriculum we use. Reach out with any questions you have. It’s such an exciting journey to begin 😊💕
I’m so glad it was helpful for you. It can definitely be overwhelming starting out. There are so many options to choose from. Hope your journey goes well 😊
I have a child starting 9th grade in the fall. I have no idea where to start when finding a public charter school. Is there only one main charter for California students (I was referred to ilead charter)? Are there more options? If so, do I have to select options from my city only…Long Beach?
Hey! Great question. It looks like you’re in Los Angeles county which is served by the same charter school that we are part of called Heartland Charter School. They are open to new families right now. Here is the link. We love Heartland! heartlandcharterschool.com/enrollment
I would love to hear your charter school experience entering into high school. Do you still get a lot of personal choice in the curriculum you choose or does it change in high school? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
You’re very welcome! We haven’t done high school yet with the charter school since my oldest is in 8th grade this year. However I hope to continue with the charter school into high school for many reasons. It is my understanding that we are able to still use the curriculum we want to use, but we cannot use religious material for our work samples. I will keep you posted as I go in my journey! Please share your experience and thoughts as well. 😊💕
Hi. I would like more information regarding charter school. We are doing charter school but I am going to try the personalized learning academy now. It seems like “homeschool”. Do that mean I am the teacher? Will I need to learn the curriculum? I’m a little confused as to how charter school and personalized learning goes.
Each charter school is different. I recommend asking your “teacher” or contact at your specific school and ask what their requirements are and what you, as the parent, get to choose. There are some programs (like mine) where I still get to use whatever curriculum I want and don’t have to go to classes. Other programs that are a hybrid will have scheduled classroom days and other days are “homeschool days” but are really days you do the assigned curriculum at home with little flexibility. Just take it a step at a time. The world of homeschooling is vast and it will take months, if not years, to know a lot and find your style. You got this, mama! 💕
It depends on the charter school and format. Typically following recommended vaccine schedules applies to students that meet for in-person classes. Some charter schools offer more parent support for schooling at home, including funds, but don’t offer or require in-person classes. I recommend getting more information about the charter school that you’re interested in. Hope that helps!
If you are part of a Charter, ask someone in your organization. If you’re a private homeschooler, I would just call the local Christian schools and ask to speak to the athletic director. A lot of them don’t have enough kids to make a full team so they are more open to taking kids that aren’t enrolled at their school. Hope you find one that will let your kids join 💕
Hi! I have a 3yo and 5yo that both need speech services, I want to homeschool but it's hard to afford speech therapy out of pocket. With the charter homeschool option do I just call a charter school and ask them to evaluate my kids to see what services are needed? I'm so confused on how to go about getting services without putting them in the public school system!
Yes this can be so frustrating. I would start with your health insurance because it’s possible for your pediatrician to write a referral to a speech pathologist and have it possibly covered by your insurance. If they won’t cover the services, you can at least have them evaluated by a professional to see if they do in fact need speech therapy. You can also use that report to help you get services through a public school. It’s a fight to get the schools to cover it too. Just letting you know to be prepared. You have to already be enrolled in the public school or charter school in order to get services. Hope you find the help you need! 🙏🏻💕
My wife and I are both planning to homeschool partially because we're not going to vaccinate and we don't agree with what they teach in public school. One of my concerns are about the exemptions and the fact that we both work full time. The charter schools where we live require vaccinations the last time we checked.
Usually the vaccination requirement comes into play when the child is physically inside a classroom. Our charter school offers voluntary Zoom classes, but mostly it supports the parent and schooling at home with financial and teacher support. It is definitely possible to homeschool with full-time jobs. It sounds like you need more information on what the charter school offers and requires. Depending on the level the child is at, a lot of kids can do independent work with someone supervising and grading. If the child is just learning how to read and write, that requires more hands-on from the parent or teacher. Hope that helps.
So informative! Thanks for doing this. I’ve homeschooled for 7 years but when a friend asks-- I’ll send them this video ❤❤
You’re welcome! That’s perfect, I’ve been doing that too to save time. 😊💕
Thank you so much! This is so helpful!
I’m so glad it helps! Happy homeschooling 😊

How can we find out more about joining sports with christian schools?
