Evan Moore and critical thinking co. Are amazing! It gives guides to how to teach the lesson. Also, UA-cam videos are an amazing tools. Thankful to those people that take the time to upload those videos.

I’m so glad you agree. Workbooks are great!!!!!! Cut em up! write in em. Make them into board games, cards, hide the pages and ask kids to find and solve. It’s FUN and you know what? It’s rewarding to see a scribbled page, a stamp at the bottom or a sticker.

This was an awesome explanation of workbooks! We have used a ton of awesome curriculum but I always come back to workbooks! I tend to lean toward a more Charlotte Mason/Child Led/Eclectic homeschool but workbooks have helped me to “test” my daughters knowledge and guide me in what to expand on. Currently we have been using Brain Quest 4 to reinforce some topics I have already taught and go over some new topics that I had on my goal list for this year. My favorite way to use this particular workbook is: 1- pick a few days that I need my daughter to work independently, 2 - the night before the day I get out post-it notes and put them on the pages I want her to complete with any notes about the lesson, 3 - I write out any rules, vocabulary, math concepts or ideas from the lessons I chose on the whiteboard, 4- I create a UA-cam playlist by searching the key words in the Brain Boxes and send the videos to my daughters UA-cam kids, 5- I add which videos to watch with each lesson on the post it notes, 6- I go over the concepts in the morning that are on the board. This usually buys me a whole day of independent work!
I also love Evan Moor! We have used 2 years of 6-Trait writing, a few of the history pockets to supplement our literature based history courses, and I recently discovered the skill sharpeners for grammar and STEAM.

My son is in 1st grade now. I try to find a video online about the subject that we are studying on YT then we discuss it and go to workbooks and/or practice on board

Your right I have been using brain Quest for my son since prekindergarten and also used the book series "What Your (prek-6th) Grader Needs to Know" (by the core knowledge series)
I'd go through the What Your _ Grader Needs to Know" book and then we'd do the brainquest workbook section that covered that lesson.
Using the WYGNTK books and brainquest workbooks together gets AMAZING results from my son (who is one of those boys who can't sit still in his classroom lol) and we use both over the summer so he's prepared for the next grade and doesn't fall behind (and there's no summer learning loss!) His teachers loved learning about me using both at home and recommended both to parents of students who were behind or struggling because both books are low cost

Thank you! I've been stressing about homeschooling my soon to be 5 year old and worried that I wouldn't cover enough material.
I had purchased allinone Curriculum because it's cheap and has all subjects but i quickly figured out that i hate prining off everything and having to organize the papers 😂
I recently checked out workbooks instead and I LOVE it! More importantly my daughter loves them. The colors, layout and ease of tracking progress.
I have her do ABCMOUSE learning path as a supplement and we are focusing on hooked on phonics for our language arts but everything else is workbooks!
Thank you also for being representation for African American homeschool moms. Not many of us out here 😂

Thank you for this! I am a new homeschooling mom with no teaching background, so I really appreciate learning from teachers turned homeschooling parents like yourself! I just rediscovered a love for workbooks. My kids are young, and sometimes doing just a little bit each day is all they have an attention span for. I would really appreciate a review on the Evan Moor Daily Series! I like the idea of biting off a small chunk each day of a variety of subjects. I think that approach would work really well for my kids. Thank you again for your channel!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely do a video on Evan Moor.
I’m so happy to have you here. I just did a homeschooling workshop on the page as well that would help.

Loved this video! What a great topic! I think that sometimes workbooks can be dismissed too quickly by homeschoolers - but I have actually found that good quality workbooks can be VERY helpful and even a really fun part of homeschool. There are definitely weaknesses, and we can't use ONLY workbooks for homeschool, but I've found them to be an excellent tool.

YES! We LOVE workbooks here! I do find myself YouTubing and googling how to teach the topic then I do give the lesson, and I don't mind that but sometimes it is time consuming so I may switch to a scripted Curriculum, but still unsure.

Great video!! I really appreciate this video and felt it was very helpful. I myself do gravitate towards workbooks and I like to teach a lesson myself, together then on their own just like you have said to. I even add in UA-cam videos. The problem is I always self doubt myself and ditch the workbook and get a fancy expensive curriculum my kids always hate. So your video really helped to reassure me and put my mind at rest. To know this is what teachers do really was great knowledge and I really appreciate it.

I used workbooks this year for the first time. Thank you for your suggestions. I’ll check them out. It was helpful to me since I had just had our baby. I was able to easily ask my daughter to turn the section and do some work while I attended to the baby or took care of other stuff. Also was helpful as a reference point to on where they needed to be. Cons for me were I think the one we had had a few mistakes, so you do need to be aware and supplement with a lesson and other information. But overall good for practice and as a portfolio just in case.

Great video. Good advice for using the work book. We use an online Math classfor math, a Charlotte Mason curriculum for our Language arts type subjects and History and we use a unit based science curriculum but that said I like to use Brain Quest to make sure he's where he's supposed to be but also we use Brain Quest for our mobile learning for our weekly therapy and doctors visits. It's all subjects write there in one book which is so so great for the car and the waiting room.

I have been homeschooling 2 years and in addition to physical workbooks I use online workbooks such as CK12 for middle school science and IXL online practice program in social studies, math, ela, and social studies. I am curious what you think about these online programs. Also do you think Khan Academy does a good job covering science and math standards for younger grades and middle school. I’d love it if you did a video review of these programs.
