- I went to visit Prisim Bettas in Dekalb Illinois. She imports all types of betta fish from Asia and sells them both locally and online. I have never seen this many betta fish in one place! She also breeds bettas and helps organize fish shows with Betta Breeders United and the International Betta Congress.

Agree I got a beta from petco once it died in 2 days like what in the world I payed like 14 dollars for it and I saw a clown fish like in a dark color in the most gross and dirty tank I’ve ever seen it was disgusting and heartbreaking 🐟😔💔
That’s just the difference between a knowledgeable proprietor looking after their own investment and a barely trained 16 year old working three evening shifts a week. It’s also the difference between a $30 fish and an $8 fish…

Surprisingly, this time I didn't. I dont have any empty tanks atm and didn't want to set up a new one since I have so many already so I had to resist getting one this time.
I didn't know the female bettas could be that colorful. The stores over here usually have grayish females. My favorite fish.
Bad water and treatment can keep them from developing their colour. I had a girl that was white when I bought her turn bright yellow after a little love 💛 Rip Eddie

Wow, the female tank is amazing! One day when I have space for a large enough tank I'd like to try a heavily planted sorority consisting of only white or light-colored Dumbo females. The fluttering white fins in a dimly-lit jungle tank would make them look like little fairies or angels in a forest.

My friend and I visit her shop often. At least twice a month. Her store is only open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, but you can make appointments with her for other days during the week. The bettas get sold very quickly, so the small space for them isn't an issue. Wonderful little shop!

@@deerdub :( they do import/export but it’s way too expensive. the only reason i’m allowed to get from there is because it’s a 45 minute drive max. my tank is soooo close to being cycled. the ammonia has been consistently at 0 and nitrites are going down. and i’m getting p good at water changes if i do say so myself. i can’t wait to get a betta :)

I love the galaxy betta coloring. The shiny scales especially on dark bettas are pretty.

I loved the white dumbo females! 😍😍 and there was one really cool one in the top left right after you mentioned your favorite!
the biggest and most important part of a sorority is the number. having a ton of live plants to keep the tank healthy is a big one too, but the more females you have the better. you never want them to have any time alone to claim territory, that triggers aggression, and constant reintroductions which trigger stress, which can lead to aggression, illness and death over a long enough period of time they can die from the stress alone. the bigger the tank you have the more fish you need. you want hiding places for them to get away from the aggressor, but there should ALWAYS be other bettas near by at all times no matter if they are hiding or not. its also good to have all bettas, since the tank needs to be heavily stocked adding other species too just complicates things and adds to the bio load, which is already going to be overwhelming by the large volume of bettas.

I’ve got a Mustard Gas Halfmoon as my first Betta and he’s doing great! I’ve had him for 5 months now and his colours have really brightened up and have also taught him to eat from my fingers 😂

I definitely recommend coming to the Davenport fish swap. It’s so worth it. And a lot of fun Me and my fiancé usually buy a table and sell our stuff at them. We got cichlids. Guppies, bettas and tank supplies

My favorite male betta was the 2nd one shown at the beginning. My favorite female was the blue eyed koi betta that you also liked. That sorority is the most active group of bettas I've seen. Thanks for sharing.
The large rubs were previously for females and atm she has a handful of goldfish in there. I dont think she sells them but don't know for sure.

Personally I love Elephant Ear Bettas, especially the ones with the floofy fins cause it’s so adorable when they swim up to you and stop and all those fins go poof!

I hv a sorority tank (33L) with 9 bettas (Big & small) and other comminunity fish living in harmony. Only the 1st & largest female betta is aggressive, she only accepts 1 other female betta and chasing away the others. So once she is removed, the rest r living in harmony.
This is soooo cool! I am so happy I am not the only with this idea! I am working very hard to open up my own betta store so this gives me hope!
I bought a nemo breed male betta but sandly he passed away 3 days after i bought him. Unfortunately it was caused by a decoration that i didint realize was for terrariums not aquariums and ive lost lots of other fish to that cause. R.I.P. Franncis (nemo betta)

You can also google “ windowsill heat pad” they are for plants 3” x 27”
Think of keeping a sorority of bettas like keeping a flock chickens. They have a pecking order just like chickens do. To be successful with keeping a sorority, you need lots of cover and the more females, the better - it helps with dispersing aggression.
