Picked myself up a Veiltail (they just looked so unpopular compared to the others, so I had to get one). Named him Kal El, he was flaring like a mad man when I first get him, but he’s mellowed out now
I love the name 😊. They usually flare when they are brand new to a tank it’s them getting comfortable with the surroundings. Also long as it’s not excessive it won’t be stressful for them to flare. We have an article on our blog about flaring. Recently released a video about it too.

Plakat bettas are prolly the best and easiest bettas to keep as when designing the tank you don't have to worry abt the decorations in the tank getting caught on their fins and the flow of the tank as much as the other bettas.

I hated bettas. Until I got one. It was sad and hurt with a white infection and living in a tiny cup. I did not want to support the trade, but I have a 5 gallon shrimp tank full of green plants, and I'm not selling shrimp. He's like a dog. Follows my finger around the tank. Makes eye contact and it's so beautiful. He looks like a half moon betta and he's metal soft pink, like the inside of a pearl oyster.
I was the same way. I would get horrified by the Betta Petcos. Opened my eyes when I went to a good fish store in my area to pick up my first Plakat. Been in love since.

I prefer the Veil Tail Betta for several reasons; the most importanrt being the cruelity involved. VT are becoming harder to find. I've been looking for another one for months. Sad.
I agree some of the breeding practices I’m not in agreement with for example dragon bettas as they get Diamond eye
Forgot to mention the whole blindness thing with the dragon scale bettas. Very important for people to know. Because of them being bred for their scales, they have an issue where the scales around their eyes can literally grow over them, rendering them unable to see. Eyes work fine, but the scales grow over them. Sad really. I should also mention this doesn't happen commonly… My little dragon scale, among many others, are doing just fine with 100% eyesight but it is a problem that should be mentioned

What do you feed a betta fish?
Blood worms, insects. They are insectivores. For food staples try betta big bites. I’ll make a video about it in the near future
Giant betta, afaik, is also less aggressive. Meaning if you want a community tank, you can put multiple male giant betta in there without them fighting too much with each other, as long as the tank is big enough to give them enough personal territory.

To be honest. In Malaysia we call all the bettas in this video as reject fish. Not the type we will want to breed for best fish.
