Oingo Boingo Live Halloween 1994
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Live at Universal Amphitheatre, Universal City, CA. At the time of this show, Sluggo, Dale and Leon were no longer in the band, and in some songs, you can see that in the part they were supposed to play, it was done on a keyboard. In addition, the affection and love of the fans is evident when Danny is practically "swallowed" by the audience during the performance of "No Spill Blood".

i come back to this every month its so GOOD
Very interesting... maybe at the time, I would have been disappointed with the absence of the horns. But in hindsight, and never having heard these arrangements... it's a welcome change. Also... it's funny to think that TODAY Danny is even more hardcore than he was in '94 !!! WTF?---- HE'S GETTING YOUNGER WITH AGE !!!
You could hear the horns in the backing track on Dead Man's Party. But he joked in 1995 at the Farewell tour that he brought the horn section out of suspended animation. :). I do love the horns, but this phase of Boingo was Danny's reaction to the Grunge movement. Heavy guitar stuff. I like the sound but I also love the older stuff too
Wow they had extrra edge this night . badass
Thanks for sharing all the great video, Annie!
For anyone who cares... based on the setlist, this show is from October 30th. The 31st had a slightly different song order.
Wow! if this is the 30th then I was there!
thanks! all these boingo shows deserve better transfers and remasters.
I haven't watched this show in a long time. I noticed some stuff. The only times they used "horns" was the beginning of DMP. Steve Bartek was holding it together music wise during the chaos. Reminded me of the Bass player of the Who. Stable while all hell was was going on with the rest of the band. Look at the security, they were not ready for Danny's surfing. Finally I never noticed Laura Engal, shoving the band off stage. She is now a major agent covering Danny, Steve and a few others.
That surfing moment was wild af! Pretty brave of Danny, I wonder if he lost any skin or hair from people grabbing him! I know his shirt was totally fucked up...lolz! Laura always took great care of the band!
I couldn’t put my finger why they sounded different. No horns. Their horn make the band. That too bad.
Aww they’re dressed in little girl tutus. Danny even has a pink guitar to match.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Meeow meow mow
I agree
Amazing! I was at this show! So great to see it again after all these years! Thanks for uploading!
2:14:09 LOL
indeed
Well, don't spill blood was epic.
Damn, this is an awesome show! Its different from the typical Oingo Boingo shows. It’s a lot more dark (dare I say a little metal) and I’m loving every minute of it. I wish I could’ve been alive while Oingo Boingo was still together, but at least I can enjoy them through UA-cam. Also, Danny Elfman is lookin’ so fine at this concert; love him with the long hair! The audience completely tore him to shreds when he did that stage dive, lucky buggers.
He looks the same except his hair doesn't curl anymore and his body looks more chiseled like a statue of a Greek god or something you know with the abs and all the little muscular details because he doesn't eat much junk food anymore. He seems sugar high here, the way he's getting all chatty with the audience. I wonder if he writes more sugary music when he's on sugar.
@@nuclearcatbaby1131 lol I can definitely see that what do you mean though like he eats a cake and something pops in his head
Cause I've written my own extremely similar stuff and one I wrote while walking home thinking about a movie seen (doesn't exist yet)
@@flippy101mph9 He’s a pecan pie freak like me!
But he can’t eat sugar anymore except as a birthday treat or something like that if he wants to still be sexy at 69 so I guess that nowadays he usually gets high from drinking black coffee probably loaded with powdered nootropic mushroom supplements since he loves fancy mushrooms too like lion’s mane and shiitake.
There was no band around that was as fun to see live as oingo boingo! In my opinion one of the most underrated bands ever!
I’m so lucky I was able to see them several times through the 80’s and 90’s. I was lucky enough to meet Sluggo, Vatos, Ávila and some others. They were doing a radio interview at local radio station KJQ and we drove down and waited at the door to see if somehow they would allow us the chance to meet. As luck would have it we were invited in! They were all so kind and had just 5 or 6 of us that were there come in and hang out for at least an hour! Got some great pics, autographs and had some laughs with Vatos! I have a great pic of him showing his latest haircut Vatos style! Great memories and AMAZING 4 hour shows!!!
@@nuclearcatbaby1131 tbf, looking at his recent birthday pictures his hair does still curl a fair bit, it’s so cute

The moment the decision was made...
why the hell do they rush them off the stage at the end? Let them enjoy the moment!!
Great show, but it just sounds incomplete without the horns
I hear horn tho. Are they just piped in?
@@evanrobbins5915 I think those are samples/keyboard sounds. They sound weirdly tinny in a way that sounds fake (could also just be the quality of the video itself)
01:21:00 we close your eyes 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Voltem!!!
Just curious, what's the wearing the pink tutus like part of the arrangement? Or were the boys like, you know what we should put on tutus and play the whole show in tutus 😂
Eu sou fá

Eu amo Oingo Boingo, mas não gostei desse show. O andamento das músicas estão muito rápidos, mal dá pra ouvir a qualidade da voz do danny. Não sei se ele ta doidão kkkk
Thats funny, Sluggo, Dale and Leon weren't playing at this concert but were in the Farewell 1995 1 year later right? Does anyone knows what happened? Please? :/
Yeah, they quit and then they were brought back just for the farewell tour
is it me or John Avila looks pretty damn fine here. like damn man.
@49:47 Danny asks a question
Found an Oingo Boingo live in 2020 is just epic, thanks !
Amazing show! Oingo Boingo is one of the best bands ever 🙏👏👏👏👏
I was at the show the night before. I was 19. In the lobby I overheard a couple "older" guys (probably late 20s) complain it was "MetalliBoingo" more than Oingo Boingo.
I agree.... or even worse Red Hot Chili Boingo
Thats funny, Sluggo, Dale and Leon weren't playing at this show but were in the Farewell 1995 1 year later right? Does anyone knows what happened? Some disagreement about money perhaps? :/
Late but from what little i know, Danny during this period was going through a bit of a mental health crisis, and his tastes had also shifted a *lot* from the early days. He felt that the band had become stagnant, all while he was listening to new music and also working on his burgeoning career as a film composer. He even had a brief falling out with Tim Burton during this time, which only added to his poorer mental state ( and likely happened due to heavy disagreements over Nightmare Before Christmas, by some accounts.) His ongoing hearing loss didn't help. After listening to his daughter's record collection - which included stuff like Led Zeppelin & The Beatles - he decided to take the band in a newer, fresher direction to keep up with the changes of the era as Grunge and hard rock took hold over the kitsch-y synth heavy stuff of the 80's. He and the band later walked this direction back when they realized it wasn't really helping matters, and after a gig gone terribly wrong, they brought back the horns for one last run as a band before they ultimately disbanded.
If I had gone to this concert and the horns weren’t there, I would’ve been pretty disappointed
Wow, the mix is terrible. Lead guitar is piercing. There are better versions of their concerts.
Anybody knows why they didn't have horns in 94? Tried to find some information but without any success.
It probably had a lot to do with Danny's hearing loss and the direction he was taking with the compositions. Much of the material from the period has a cinematic quality and a heavy Beatles influence (he talked about it in an early 90s AOL chat) despite the metal style.
@@colecantos3273 I didn´t receive notification that you responded to my comment. But thank you!
This has got to be my favorite performance of Just Another Day ever. The intro is legendary, atmospheric
