Hollow Knight came out over four years ago and many are still playing it to this day as we eagerly await Silksong. Let's explore the lore of Hallownest and the world of Hollow Knight from the earliest known events to the multiple endings for the main game. Great explanation. Just one question. How did you get all that??? The game is incredibly cryptic with it's lore. Am I missing something?
From dialogs with different characters, items description, dream nailing stuff, read everything, hidden places, and adventuring.
Hollow Knight might be my favorite platformer ever just because of the vibe it gives off

I can tell who you're talking about, lol. Honestly, to each their own, but i quite liked the forced humour and the dry gags. Something about their irony gives his video (or his channel as a whole) quite a witty personality. But idk, i don't work at ICE anymore.

Just beat the game and had no idea about any of this stuff haha
I feel the Collector is a failed kings mold that ended up getting locked up since he was just being a goof ball...but he may have helped gather the grubs to be examined to see how their metamorphosis worked but probably started doing his own thing and the king locked him up with his already existing collection where he would probably going even more crazy since he couldnt get out to his other captured grubs...his precious

Great video! I know I'm late to the party with the whole Hollow Knight thing but I played it for the first time last week and just beat it an hour ago. The story is honestly pretty cryptic and while I was able to piece together the basics, I wanted more details on the nuance of the story. This video helped so much!

well i watched many videos of the story, even hour long ones, but i didn't really understood it, cause english isn't my native language and i don't understand much hard words, and those others always adds forced humour or jokes which sometimes i din't get and that also made me not understand the plot, but however the way you described was pure one, it was hollow 😅 and thanks to you now i know the (mostly) full lore of the Hollow Knight 🥰 thanks a lot 💖
I love this game, but for the difficulty, especially on Path of Pain, is insane. I really hope that for the background obstacles, it would be less hard.

Crazy to think about how one of the greatest stories ever crafted by humankind should be buried in a game.
I know I’m waaaay late to this game…. And let me say…. Best Metroidvania ever!! But you got all this from playing the game? I had to come watch this video because I had 0 idea what was going on. 😂 can’t wait for silk song…. I got so lost in this game so many times. I hope they do a better job of helping players track objectives. I had to “back track” so many times…. Just trying to figure out what to do. It was fun…. But frustrating at the same time. If you like platforms and Metroidvania games…. Play this!!!!!! You won’t be disappointed.

So basically big worm dies, turns into King. Big Moth angry, lot's of plage. Little King gets treeussy, lots of void babies. Baby holocaust, (false) Hollow Knight is chosen (we the actual Hollow Hnight). King gets sipidussy, step-sis born. HK goes in black egg, dreamers go sleep. 4 out of 5 great knights die, King dies.
We arrive, the infected try to kill us, the infected die. Step-sis tries to kill us, she doesn't die. The dreamers try to kill us, the dreamers die. the Now-Infected-Not-So-Hollow Knight tries to kill us, step-sis helps. Big Moth tries to kill us, Big Moth dies. Plague dies. We die.

So the Knight really is a child to the Pale King.
I must be dumb because I just finished the game (81%) and had almost no clue what the heck was going on the whole time.
I like and enjoy the dark souls style of story telling but I kinda think this game needed a touch more overt story

So what is the difference between you and the last boss (hollow knight as well?)
The last boss was the Hollow Knight that the Pale king considered pure enough to be able to contain the radiance as he could not be corrupted by it and got the title Hollow Knight by the Pale king. That plan failed and the radiance broke free and became the last boss.
The player is the brother to the 'pure' Hollow Knight but of the same purpose, a child with the hope you were pure to contain the radiance but were deemed a failure. The player however escaped the chasm all the failed children were thrown into and that's the game.
The difference 'was' supposed to be that the player character had thought and a mind and sentience, something the radiance could corrupt while the last boss was without those things and hence uncorruptable but it turns out the last boss did have those things, or at least enough to be corrupted.
@@kaylo1499 Not to be annoying, but I correct lore when I see it, the player we play as is not actually a "brother" since vessels are genderless. Other than that you are really good at the lore and typing long comments.

Great presentation. It did bug me though that you seem to have a great command of this game world, but you said "Hollownest" and not "Hallownest" like a hundred times.

good video, but hard to understand u at times
I'm very disappointed, I played the game for like 26 hours and I thought it was a game with a simple story and big map, I played all the side battles but i stopped somewhere I didn't know how to solve it!, And when i saw it on youtube , I surprised that the game contains all these details and effects in the story, I really hate the style of Souls games it takes all the time while leaving you hanging with a story full of confusion and emptiness :(
Then these games aren’t for you. You have to have a high iq to appreciate and understand this games story and remember everything

One hard part of understanding stories like this is that these bugs actually exist in real life and aren’t capable of things like “worship” or “turning their backs to the kings rule.” I know this sounds obvious but when coming across a story like this all of our intuitions about these creatures are wrong and we have to actively re-learn how things are in this story and our intuitions about these creatures will constantly keep creeping back in and messing with our understanding of things. Idk, I noticed this when analyzing why this story is so opaque to me

FInally a lore video closer to the tone of the game. All the others "half humor half lore" popular videos are a cringefest.
I tried reading and understanding the lore......but it seemed like basically nobody was speaking english......it seemed like everybody was speaking like people did in the 12th century.....it was fucking annoying....I still read most of it, but gave up trying to understand anybody and started to just no longer give a shit......I think it was a bad move on the devs to not make things more clear and straight forward....
I am actually going to replay the game now that I have this complete picture.
