Back in the 90's I saw a Pink Floyd laser light show inside a planetarium. Total darkness, seats leaned back, surround sound stereo, and the entire concave ceiling was the projection screen. So cool to experience the music like that in a pre-internet, pre-cell phone, pre-VR, physically immersive environment.
yeah, i've always said if Animals or wywh had come before dsotm the world would've put them on top and slated dsotm as just another album. Maybe who knows huh. wish folk would stop bad mouthing Syd too, i'd like to see them write and produce two top selling albums with a head full of acid, i can't even make a cup of tea when i'm trippin'.
To let you know that's the exact same video they had playing behind them in 1977 during their "In the flesh" tour! When the blood ocean turned into hands two girls in front of me that bragged that they had taken acid both hit the floor and had to be hauled away by either security or paramedics! On the way in I was walking with my wife and they actually looked at us and said we just took some acid and we can't wait to hear they're song Money!! I had seen them a few years before and I asked you know who these guys are and they go yeah!! They just weren't prepared for that concert cuz it was very intense and I saw at least a dozen people get hauled away!! I've been at least a 100 concerts in my life and never seen a more intense concert than this one including the Pulse concert!! I'm still holding out hope but not as much as I used to that they filmed that 1977 concert somewhere!!!🤞!!!
Floyd are my favourite band (doesn't make me a minority race I know.) This is the first reaction I've ever seen to this song and it was good one! I know all Floyd fans will be "hating" on me,but I think Wright was underrated because of Gilmore and Waters.🏴
When I was a kid (10-12 years old), this song really scared me. But yet I was strangely drawn to it. It's fantastic (this whole album is fantastic, and it's my favorite Pink Floyd album). By the way, did you notice that Nick Mason took a break during this entire song?
This recording was dedicated to the original founder/member of the group Syd Barrett. If you listen closely at the very end you can hear people in a bar saying "hey Syd" in several spots. Very hard to detect though. Great recording as are all their works.
Great reaction! I first heard this song back in '75 thanks to my older brother -- it depressed me beyond words at the time and still does. Some of us take to the machine better than others, I suppose.
Interesting to watch Dev's first reaction to this part of "Wish you were here". I don't think she liked it a lot, mostly due to the overwhelming use of "synthesizer" throughout? Don't worry, it will pass when you listen to the entire album a few times more, and realize why "Welcome to the Machine" were made to be exactly so syntezised, dark and brutal as it is. So WELCOME to the party, you are not alone!
Afterwards she told me she liked it, including the synth. I think sometimes our initial expressions don't reflect our feelings after experiencing the whole song.
Thx for also showing the video. That is the second time I've seen it. The first time was in '77 at The Omni from the 22nd row projected from behind on "The Moon". Very kewl to see it in better resolution. But, where are the laser beams??
Guys, you HAVE to listen to 70's Floyd a full album side at a time! It's how they were designed, and those of us who heard it when it came out expected that!!
Next vid will be all of Side 2. Promise... as long as UA-cam doesn't block it, as it sometimes does with multi-song videos. (I have had to split videos in the past for this reason.)
Again, they're talking about Syd Barrett, the whole album is really about Syd Barrett, he's the one they, Wish Were Here. The second person "You" lyric throughout the song, is Syd. Syd played a mean guitar, Syd loved to drive his Jaguar, Syd bought a guitar to punish his ma, Syd didn't like school, etc., To quote an old saying, 'you get the drift', lol.
You forgot an incense burning and a black light or lava lamp, maybe both going. Then you're ready for Floyd. Oh I had 2 of the 3 back in high school in '75. No lava lamp, then got 5 or 6 now.
I did my bedroom in black light wallpaper, the entire room, with a black light bulb in the ceiling fixture, 4 speakers, one in each corner. Looking back, I wonder how my parents tolerated it.
Do you know that no one from Pink Floyd sings this. David and Roger were having a hard time getting a vocal they liked. A friend of the band Roy Harper, who was in the studio at the time, thought he could pull it off and that's who we're hearing.
Sorry it's been a while since we made this video. If you are referring to tips/donations, 5 USD or more gets you a thank you in our next vid. If you are referring to Patreon, there is a $3, $5, $10 or $25 level, depending on what you want. If you are referring to something else, I apologize & feel free to clarify. 😀
My least favourite song on WYWH, probably because I dislike synths with a vengeance lol. It just doesn’t convey or convince the listener of the intention behind it, compared to everything else on the album. There you go. I’ve chucked me two pennorth in t’ hat, like. ( Sir and Madam will have no clue what that last statement was about ha ha haaaaa).

Its a very special song
This album has to be listened to from start to finish as the songs all flow into each other just like Darkside.
The machine is life.
well said..., so many folk just ''don't get it''

...PULSE live concert 1994 !😉😎🔝
Yeah I saw laser Floyd in Toronto, Canada in the early 90s as well.
Hayden Planetarium, Saturday nights. Been there. Loved it. They used to do laser Zeppelin too.
my favourite ⚗👽
Such an amazing sonic experience. Even after 30 years of listening to this.
I used to come home from school everyday - put this album on (or Animals), turn off the lights, put on the headphones and fade into the music
I love Pink Floyd for the time i was 14 Years old. This sounds for me like a music predecessor of the Matrix Movies
Been a fan since 86 saw the first live for Momentary lapse, saw them 5 times between lapse and Bell.. Greatest blues/rock band ever
I always had a preference to this album, its PF ultimate album.

I'm sure I'd faint too. Or at least I'd cry through the whole thing! Too bad it can't happen anymore :-(.

I only stop for Rush and exceptional songs such as this. 🎉
This song was used in the series called "Person Of Interest" It fit so perfectly like it was made for it, Season 4 episode 22

Es depresivo pero magico.....me proyecta al pasado a otro tiempo...otros olores,,,no puedo explicar las sensaciones...
It's about society in general. Adapt and fit in, or else!
They wrote follow-on songs to this song. On the Momentary Lapse Of Reason album are The New Machine, Part 1 and Part 2.

Animals , Dark Side Of The Moon & The Wall - are also great albums
first heard this song on Top Gear when they presented the Vantage V550
Great song❤ and dave is beautiful
Maybe my Fav Floyd. His voice exudes hate and malice told from pain
Love Dev's hair
Hope that one day you will play The Piper at the Gate of Dawn, their first album, make sure it is the British release ❤
The 70s called. They want their surround sound back 😂

Not gonna lie: the series Person of Interest brought me here

One sometimes becomes confused with the Motorway15 group. They like to have that effect, someone in a room said it by guarantee.

Glouster Meadows
There's no "the" originally... ;)
And did you notice?... No drums.
Silosybe mexicana, head phones, tied down, no distractions - total immersion into the vast vaper of nothingness 🤪😜🤣😵💫😒😅🥴😫😳🤯a glass of wine
Buh bye 😂
Can I be part of the UA-cam machine too? Only 5 USD you said right?

Sonidos astrales...no de este mundo....
I hope you realize that this is not an official video. I hope you do realize that and just focus on the music
As it says when the cartoon starts, we did not watch it when we listened.
They skipped a beat?
I meant that they threw in a 3/4 measure amongst the 4/4 measures.
incredible music, but they did a terrible job on that car sound effect just before the end. doesnt even resemble a car. love the song though.
Todd Rundgren has a better cover. Also, on YT, iirc. It is more faithful to the song.
Smoke some weed to enhance it. Eat some 🍄 and it will be a completely different song.

I think all that Monty Python I watched allowed me to get the gist of your last statement. 😜
@@MusicforBusyPeople Thank God I don’t have to interpret.
Listen to the song without the video.
As it says in the video, we did not watch the video when we listened.
that cover version is so bad
