Glad to see so many of you enjoyed the first episode! If you missed it, you can find the full playlist here - ua-cam.com/video/Urz5sKwxe0w/v-deo.html ! Episode 3 is out now - ua-cam.com/video/d567wA1L9JU/v-deo.html ! Our adventures continue today, and things start to get a little tense... If you're enjoying the series so far, don't forget to hit that like button, and there's plenty more AOW4 to come, so feel free to subscribe too ;)
Pro tip that I wasn't even aware of until I was browsing the steam guides: Wonders are persistent. So if you go in and lose, the enemies inside the wonder will still be damaged. They don't heal. So you CAN send in fodder heroes to soften up Silver and Gold tier wonders early on. :D
I have no opinion on what should be Gur Gul's main weapon, but since the hammer's name is literally Excessive Force, I feel like it should at least see play when the balance of power is already way in your favor.
Just a heads up. Those spiders that you can recruit in Thorne, if you rank them up enough they’ll evolve into bigger spiders that become tier 3 units and have useful skills
Im not really behind the decision at the end there, spore kingdom is not chaotic evil but rather to me is more like neutral evil. As you mentioned, the spore kingdom is primal but not necessarily unintelligent, though most of the time they rely on stronger emotions than logical conclusions. Just like many fungus, they can make incredible decisions to maintain the growth of the colony and reduce the host's immunity against it. My humble suggestion is that when an opportunity for evil presents itself, Gur Gul would weigh immediate colony benefit against evil alignment and make a decision upon that. In that case, you won't make much enemies at the very beginning of this playthrough, just like how fungi tend to 'hide' from their host's immune system when they infect a host initially, its until certain amount of growth that they unleash their full force and by then, a host is not capable of eradicating them.
I also think the ending choice was less thematic and more game related, especially when getting evil points is so much easier to do than getting good points in this game.
i like Gur Gul using a staff, he's more the shaman / seer / war-prophet leader of the barbarian tribe. would love the next hero recruited to be his right-hand-toad enforcer type wielding Excessive Force. (i know this video is old now, but still, haha)
Just started watching this series as a new player and trying to figure things out after 2 campaigns. Really like how you take the time to explain everything and also how you make your choice based on lore instead of min maxing. looking forward to keep going thru the serie!
I like your pacing, PE. The game has great aesthetics and lends itself to world building & exploration. I think that the strategy and tactical layers do a great job of fleshing out the world, they ensure that there are "interesting things to do" without necessarily dominating the game.
The best autoresolve option in my opinion is to load the battle, then to turn on Autoresolve. It’s worth it to see how the computer thinks, as they’re able to make use of a lot of combos and positioning
For me your main Ruler Gur Gul using a staff is cool backstory you are creating man. Gur is different even if his race are barbarians. Looking forward to part 3 and enjoying the game so far as well on Gog. :)
Casters don't need staffs. You can weave magic while smashing someone's shin. You can also get the spell that makes your units bigger. That'd be a fun twist.
I like the idea of using the local nature (affinity!) against itself, great choice with Baba. Keep in mind Gur Gal has inspiring leader to evolve some of the animal units as they rank up!
I mean it IS eventually going to be a place of both learning and chaos, complete with dozens of different... er, "animals" being hosted. Kind of fits, ngl
Just started this series today, and I know you're already deeper in the campaign. I love your playthroughs, and I am perfectly fine with you reading every popup, as well as I'm perfectly fine with the battles. Obviously later on, I also agree, auto resolving etc etc! I also love your idea behind this faction, and more importantly, your Ruler. I think if you ever get stronger items, only replace your current Staff with another Staff. I like the idea of a Shaman. Can't wait to see more, PartyElite! P.S. I definitely would have sent that guy you found in the Ancient Wonders back, but, lol good choice regardless!
I was sad when I realized I wouldn’t be able to make a suggestion for Gorepit when watching Ep1 (Ep2 was already out). Turned out I had nothing to worry about. Sporepit FTW!
You say you're blocked off due to mountains, and while I don't know if you can build on mountains, Age of Wonders 4 does an interesting take where you can walk through them! Mountains take 16 move points per tile as thus are _very_ hard to traverse, but are traverseable! Actually what happend at 46:00 is that the Watcher couldn't use the Lightning Bolts while in Zone of Control, so they just entered defense mode, and then your berserk unit got their turn in and killed.
1.For me staff for Gur Gul is good, the staff isn't just a weapon it's the spore generator/spreader that allow him to control all his people ( if I'm not wrong abt your story ) 2.Choosing that second hero is great since when Gur Gul marches he would spread the spore to all flora and fauna that he can find, so he definitely needs a Beastmaster to control them
Man, party. I have watched you way back like 6 years ago and have now returned because of the AoW4 series and I must say that I missed how you interact with the comments. It was a blast from the past from me when you mentioned at the end of the last episode that you read every single comment haha
Makes me really happy to hear that my engaging with the comments is something worth missing haha. I appreciate the kind words, and I hope you enjoy this series!
Gur Gul is a seer. He is the herald of the coming blight, bringing his people forth from the spawning pools to smother the world in darkness. His role is that of a spiritual shepherd, not a simple brutal warrior. That hammer would be great for a champion that emerged from his brood pond after killing all his siblings, under the guidance of Gur Gul.
The name Mountain Mildew might be nice to have in reserve? For when no mountain near, perhaps Mulch Marches? I like suboptimal decisions for roleplay sake, but the Gniesen guy should imo be send home. You don't have to be evil for evil sake, and better relations would have meant controlling Gniesen sooner rather than later. But it's fine, more mulch for the little sporelings to feast on!
I apreciate the dedication to roleplay, so keep the stuff if you feel like it fits better, can always use the hammer and the crossbow on your other heroes
The only decision I disagree with is imprisoning the hero from Gnessein. Sure letting him go is technically "Good aligned" but there's nothing wrong with taking Good actions when it fits your current goals, such as trying to make friends with Gnessein.
The only thing I do not like overall with the game is everything on the map is so tiny, like the buildings, trees and ancient wonders. Good thing it says "farm" above the farm tile and "mine" above the mine tile because otherwise it would be hard to see what it is. The minecart is like watching a flea jump back and forth.
Sporepit is great. I like to interpret the ice biome next to it as mycelium spreading outward. All in the theming :D I prefer a staff on Gur Gul aswell, for the same reasons you mentioned.
You should look to see whether any of the other items you have secured make sense for Baba the Boar. Perhaps the crossbow or Excessive Force? I cannot imagine the mighty growth not taking every advantage they have access to and those weapons seem rather potent. Rather than take to the seas, I'd be in favor of exploring the underground and seeing if there is an alternative route to the other lands. Besides, it kind of makes sense for the Fungi to spread beneath the Earth unseen. As for Thorne's name, why not keep with the convention currently and call it Thornpit?
New to game, looking at tutorials & your playthrough. I would like to see as much detail on combat esp. support roles and combat enchantments. I I I am also considering building a back story and custom faction so your work on sticking to the theme of your back story is particulay welcome. Keep up the good work.
Even though sending Dereg Rodblok home was technically "good" aligned it could have been used to vassalize and subjugate Gneisson sooner. Taking a a step towards the good while playing the longer self serving game. Just a thought should you run into a similar situation in the future. Pulling the, "Oh look! I returned your hero home!" card while using that as a way to get the magical resources farmed for you. A little heavier on the RP side perhaps, but also with the added benefit bringing Gneisson into the Growth that much sooner. Long live God-King Gur Gul!
Gonna be honest, missed a golden opportunity with cannibals. Nothing screams fungal infestation like composting your enemies for new growth. Still, loving it!
"a troop of opposing sporelings spread the rumour that Gur Gul is too weak to be a leader, too short and clearly not worthy of leading the powerfull" "Gur Gul had to set an example, he had to use Excessive Force to crush this rumour and these foes" You could go back to magic after this as you have proven your point or you could stay with the EF since this newfound power feels good
no the serpents are just tier 2 serpents. The pigglins, caustic worms, elementals and spiders all evolve once but not twice like the 3rd game as far as I've seen so far. Some units from some cultures also evolve but not many.
If want go shaman rute go for only supportive skills i had supportive build focus on range units and is auto combat god on brutal i even auto combat tier IV units.
For those who like civ this game puts it to shame. I will say that I get a lot of crashes on ps5 so saving regular is a must. That aside it’s certainly worth it
Cool gameplay, no doubts, though the commentary feels pretty longwinded at times. I feel narration should revolve much more around world building and role-playing, and less around your upcoming strategies, as well as movements, leaving something to surprise your audience. Other than that, I’d keep the staff and give the maul to another hero. Settlement name suggestions: Moldvillage, Festertown
Yep definitely something I fine-tune as the episodes go forward. Feedback always helps me know what people do and don't like, and I do my best to adjust accordingly. Thanks!
Just want to say that I'm enjoying the playthrough a lot. I've watched other creators as well. But immersion is a really big hit or miss for me. When cities or heroes get named after pop culture references or just silly twitch chat suggestions like "Ligmaballs" it's just a huge turn off for me. Same goes for when the tomes are just meta picked rather than using immersive storytelling. Thanks for putting these out, my only complaint is that you don't have more playthroughs to binge watch! because the game is fairly new.

Yes, sporepit yes, i feel so heard :)
His staff is the mighty Tad-Pole ofc.

I like Gur Gul being different and using a staff and being a caster. Like you said, he's different, like a Shaman, or Seer.
Just a heads up. Those spiders that you can recruit in Thorne, if you rank them up enough they’ll evolve into bigger spiders that become tier 3 units and have useful skills
You're the only UA-camr that I've seen who reads the flavor text. Keep it up!

what i like the most about your videos his that you actually do the combat. i learned a lot from this thank you!

AoW 4 is great especially with your amazing approach to this style of game, keep it coming!
I think Thorne should be renamed Toad Hall. Yep, immersion breaking but it would make me chuckle every time you mention it.
I mean it IS eventually going to be a place of both learning and chaos, complete with dozens of different... er, "animals" being hosted.
Kind of fits, ngl
Toadstool?
@@noradrenalin8062 I reckon that it is toilet block in Toad Hall!
:) "We want them to come to us!" next words "Let's push up!" LOL! Got to love the "consistency" of Thought vs Actions.. :)

33:30 -- realm dislikes evil but three of the four factions you've met so far have that alignment?
1.For me staff for Gur Gul is good, the staff isn't just a weapon it's the spore generator/spreader that allow him to control all his people ( if I'm not wrong abt your story )

Found myself anxiously awaiting this upload
Love your channel man, cheers!

lol Karissa the Red is a leader created by Alex the Rambler of the yogcast group. They played a game that is posted on the dev's page
I apreciate the dedication to roleplay, so keep the stuff if you feel like it fits better, can always use the hammer and the crossbow on your other heroes
YES! I knew Sporepit was a winner!
Get your Gur Gul on! Next Hero Gar Gul, Gur Gul's Spore Mate. lol
He needs a Gur Gal.
The only decision I disagree with is imprisoning the hero from Gnessein. Sure letting him go is technically "Good aligned" but there's nothing wrong with taking Good actions when it fits your current goals, such as trying to make friends with Gnessein.
Yeah I was definitely torn on that one. Probably should've gone the other way there, but that's hindsight 20/20
@@PartyElite I would not have been "torn" at all. Not a good choice: evil or good.
The only thing I do not like overall with the game is everything on the map is so tiny, like the buildings, trees and ancient wonders. The fact a lot of your territory is frozen forces you to go cryomancy route
how did the city Thorme get access to all the spider and wurn creatures?
I think a staff is a better weapon than an axe for Gur gul.
Liking this playthrough a lot 😊

Gurgle has the muscles to use that hammer with dwarf-like strength, he clearly lifts, and I'd love to see him smash face with Excessive Force please!
Awesome series its very interesting
You can always name second city Gorepit in honor of the renamed capital city!
Gonna be honest, missed a golden opportunity with cannibals. Nothing screams fungal infestation like composting your enemies for new growth. Still, loving it!
Awwww man that's a good point. God there are just so many options!
Lovin it
"a troop of opposing sporelings spread the rumour that Gur Gul is too weak to be a leader, too short and clearly not worthy of leading the powerfull"
"Gur Gul had to set an example, he had to use Excessive Force to crush this rumour and these foes"
You could go back to magic after this as you have proven your point or you could stay with the EF since this newfound power feels good
You should make the next one an underwater race next that would be cool.
you could switch the horoes governing the cities
gur gul seems like a mix of skaven and nurgle
Do units like the serpents evolution and become stronger like the old game?
no the serpents are just tier 2 serpents. The pigglins, caustic worms, elementals and spiders all evolve once but not twice like the 3rd game as far as I've seen so far. Some units from some cultures also evolve but not many.

check what items you received from the new prisoner
For Barbarians? Gold always works.
Read on. I like the writing.

For those who like civ this game puts it to shame. I will say that I get a lot of crashes on ps5 so saving regular is a must. That aside it’s certainly worth it
Yeah leaving pickups on the map is a noob move.
Can u name one of the incoming heroe long toung😊🎉
I'm very late to this party, otherwise i would have loved to make name suggestions and the like
Really confused by the imprisonment. Didn't make a ton of sense to me given that you're trying to build an alliance with them.
