This is the best Creation Kit tutorial I've watched yet! You explained things quickly but clearly and I like that. Also the quality of the video was nice and clear. You got right into it, no dicking around.
UHG! If only I'd found this video years ago, it would have saved me all the pain and frustration of having to deal with either the vanilla perk trees or somebody else's rendition of how they needed to be fixed. Found some that were ok, but still a little off in some areas to my liking, so spent hours in xEdit doing alterations. Avoided the massively extravagant overhauls at all cost. But this video, it makes everything so simple. Job well done!
Kept crashing in the CK. In order to get the perk tree to work, I needed to open command prompt as admin inside my SSE folder, then use this command: regsvr32 flowchartx64.dll Thanks for the tutorial. I've wanted to tweak different mods' trees for years.
For everyone who is talking about most of the context menu options being grayed out in the perk trees, the solution for me was to disable ENBoost (ENBs as well, if you have them installed, but I don't). Other options you may want to try; -Running the CK as an admin (it didn't work for me, but it might for you) -if neither of the above work, try reinstalling the CK Hope that helps anyone who is having this issue in the future and finds this post.
Thanks for the feedback. Bethesda could really have done a little more to help out but the wiki is just far too confusing for many and doesn't explain how everything goes together. The scripting references remain helpful though.
my god, huge thanks! i never got into modding Fallout because tutorials beyond making a light switch and getting an NPC to walk around a room were almost nonexistent. So then you had to waste endless hours figuring stuff out on your own. If you never viewed a tutorial beyond the Bethesda ones then you wouldn't even be able to make a decent mod.
For anyone trying this with Skyrim Special Edition, after you got the creation kit through the bethesda website, you have to follow these steps for your creation kit not to crash: Open the Command Prompt as Administrator. cd.. till you are on c:\ then type cd F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition , or whatever to navigate to your SSE folder. Once there you have to type regsvr32 flowchartx64.dll in order to fix the Creation Kit not to crash when you try to open any skill trees like explained in this video. have fun!
Thank you for your guide videos! I'm slowly building a rather comprehensive archery system that I'm going to include in a bigger mod (think of it as a smaller size DLC) and these videos are great for showing me how to accomplish the things that I want.
Thank you very much. I'm creating a merge file with multiple mods inside it and the main problem is perks. With this explanation, I can fix the perk trees now.
I'm unsure as I have not edited perk trees for a while now but you should be able to just click on the arrow linking the two and press delete. Should be an easy option somewhere if not.
I like what SkyRe did to the perk trees but one-handed and two-handed seem to have been hastily done, I'm going to try and overhaul them to make them more inclusive to the great weapons that it adds, thx for the vid to help me with that
Some things just cannot be done in the Creation Kit I'm afraid, and I think you will find that changing the way certain things in the game work like enchanting is one of them. We don't have the exact kit which Bethesda use the create the game, only a cut down version so many of the games fundamentals cannot be changed. You could create a separate setup of your own though using scripts if your any good with Papyrus but that may be about it.
Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of nodes (perks) or a problem if the tree gets too wide. I'm modding Destruction and once I get to a certain point, the game crashes when I try to access the perk trees {TAB} is there an .ini setting that allows wider margins for perk trees? Any help or ideas are appreciated.
want to change the perk tree order for Grandmaster - True Unarmed Combat but when i right click almost all options are greyed and can't be clicked.i tried to load the esp again and close-reopen CK but nothing.options are still greyed
TY for teaching how to implement perks, how would I create the effects associated with enchanting.. make it so when you disenchant an item, it removes the enchantment instead of destroying the item, and allow enhancing enchantments presently on an item through consumption of soul gems?
I have always teh error "Could not get the FlowChart class". I tried to run it as adminstrator and tried to register the .dll file with regvsr32 but it doesnt work. i installed everything on properly devices. so idk whats the problem here
Rather than use the Bethesda.net Launcher create a shortcut somewhere (Desktop?). Set compatability on the shortcut to run as administrator. You will have to upload the mod via the Bethesda.net Launcher but after editing.
Any idea why my perk doesn't show the Required level? I added the conditions for both the previous perk and the skill level. I put it in the right spot in the tree, and connected it properly. It shows in the right spot in-game, with the correct description and name, just when I hover over it, there is no requirement shown as there is with all the other perks. Thanks in advance!
Thank you very much for this good guide video. Is it also possible to create a whole new perk tree? So not just editing a new perk to an existing tree, but to create my completely own? Have a nice X-Mas!
Sooo, totally want to add a divines/daedra favor system (for when beyond skyrim finishes a couple provinces) that counts how many quests you've completed for that specific daedric lord or divine and if you complete all of the req. quests you'll be rewarded a buff. The end product would require a bit more complexity though, and I ask, is it possible to add a new skill to the game? I'm pretty sure the perk tree menu area in game is .xml or some sort of HUD overlay..
This is a pretty useful video...thanks a ton. I do have one question. You showed how to create a directional arrow from one perk to another, but how do you edit or remove arrows already on the perk tree. For example, I'm trying to "fix" alteration so that the Atronach perk requires Magic Resistance, rank 3, instead of requiring the Expert Alteration Perk. I can make a new arrow linking the two with no problem, but how do I get rid of the old arrow linking atronach to Expert Alteration?
i want to remove some perks but i don't get the option when i right click.i only get add new perk and set associated skill.rest options are greyed and can't be clicked
Not sure if you are still responding to this video, but maybe someone can help. I followed the steps given here in the video to try and create my own perk for the Destruction Tree. However, when I saved it and loaded the game it doesn't seem to load up. Considering I use MO, does that change where and how you save it in order to make it work properly?
This may be a bit belated but I'm curious. Options to edit things in the perk trees are greyed out for me. Any idea as to how this might have happened and how to rectify it?
Hi there! thank you so much for the video! I was wondering if you could point lost souls like myself to where on the Bethesda website they detail what the all the skill settings do? i've looked around using the link you posted, and i cant seem to find it. although i might just be blind. Thank you very much for your time and effort!
How can I edit the Invester Perk (Speechcraft)? I'm trying everything here, and it just doesn't work AT ALL (the descriptions show okay, but it doesn't work on game)! I want to invest 5000 gold
Ok I'm still lost on what i wanna do (I'm probably just an idiot), but i wanna basically replace the oblivion binding perk with something that gives the bound melee weapons the effect of the BloodSkal Claymore from the Dragonborn DLC
When you click perk tree you get a nice diagram, when I click perk tree I get the box but it's only grey space no visible tree. (using skyrim special edition, and the creation kit attached to the bethesda launcher which appears the same but in this instance it isn't working quite the same) any suggestions?
This doesn't work in SSE creation kit. When ever i try to edit the perk tree the creation kit crashes. Do you know if Bethesda is still working on the SSE creation kit. Like will they ever fix this bug? Or is there a way to fix this that I am unaware of.
Murderous Johnny Very doubtful that they are going to fix the Creation Kit now, even the SSE version. As for this issue, you may want to try running the program as admin. If you're running an ENB with SSE, try disabling or removing it as I have heard reports that ENBs for some odd reason cam affect the perk tree in CK.
Thanks for quick reply, Yeah I tried that and no I have no Enbs. For others with similar problem I found this : bethesda.net/community/topic/24411/64-bit-perk-tree-crash-workaround . Also thanks for your videos, I'm watching a lot of them.
I have a question. Does anyone know where is the bonus value from skill is stored in CK (like 0.4% bonus armor for each point in heavy armor or 0.5% dmg from one handed skill)?
I'm back at trying to do things in the creation kit. Find anything since this post ^ about making your own perk trees? I really want to make one and not mess up the default trees as other mods already do this and seems it would lead to unwanted conflicts for people who wanted to use my new skills with other perk overhauls.
@@furiousmick6696 I just started teaching myself this mod system this morning and I'm having the same problem. The program itself is super easy for normal stuff but I wanted to make a stand-alone growing weapon that has it's own perk tree, however I'm having trouble finding a value in the game that I can re-purpose as an upgrade system. I don't want to deplete the players perk points or completely ruin an existing tree, but I also can't find anything at all which lists a value for dragon-souls held. Hell I could even edit the werewolf and vampire lord perk menus but I just can't find any of them.
were you able to fix it yet? there are a couple things to try (google it, there are lots of forums) but the first easy thing to test is running the creation kit as admin.
Been watching your Creation Kit series, and I gotta say, it's awesome. You've helped me out alot, and I hope you'll check out my mods once I upload some videos ;)

I know exactly how you feel! I like this one mod's perk tree but they removed certain perks that obliterate a certain play style.
Kept crashing in the CK. In order to get the perk tree to work, I needed to open command prompt as admin inside my SSE folder, then use this command: regsvr32 flowchartx64.dll

That's awesome, what're you going too call it so I csn keep track of it?
You can find the trailer clip on my channel. Though, I haven't had time to work on the mod in a while. We'll see if/when it comes out :)

Fantastic tutorial. I had no idea you could actually modify the tree itself. I always thought it was hard-coded.
Same I thought it was in the DLL or C# but its not, Im glad Bethesda made it easy for modders.
Zach Spear Amen to that.
I like what SkyRe did to the perk trees but one-handed and two-handed seem to have been hastily done, I'm going to try and overhaul them to make them more inclusive to the great weapons that it adds, thx for the vid to help me with that
How the f&$k can you view the perk trees when a flowchart error appears every time in the creation club. Entire fucking thing shuts down.

Yeah I don't think it has to do with any .ini or extension, It just bugs because of many perks maybe too much for creation kit
want to change the perk tree order for Grandmaster - True Unarmed Combat but when i right click almost all options are greyed and can't be clicked.i tried to load the esp again and close-reopen CK but nothing.options are still greyed
still the same...

When I try to change the flow chart, a dialogue box tells me it can't open, and then CK crashes. Any idea what that's about?
I don't think you can no because the player would not be guaranteed to have the available perk point to each time you reach a level in a perk tree.
I have always teh error "Could not get the FlowChart class". I tried to run it as adminstrator and tried to register the .dll file with regvsr32 but it doesnt work. i installed everything on properly devices. so idk whats the problem here
When I click, "perk tree" nothing at all shows up. just a grey blank dialog screen, so cant add perk boxes. Any suggestions?
Rather than use the Bethesda.net Launcher create a shortcut somewhere (Desktop?). Set compatability on the shortcut to run as administrator.
You will have to upload the mod via the Bethesda.net Launcher but after editing.
Does it work with, say, SPERG? In case I want to make Necromage affect the vampire PC again.
Any idea why my perk doesn't show the Required level?
I added the conditions for both the previous perk and the skill level.

What was that about updating your sim file in the beginning? I've never heard of it before.
I know this is 6 years late, but for people watching now, he said "update.ESM" just spoke a bit quick

hey mate, pretty awesome guide, was wondering, can i make the skills autolearned when u get to a certain lvl in that tree?
hi there i need help, I cant open perk tree in the ck, can you help me with this please?

try setting Ck as run as administrator in it's properties, so every time it opens it will ask for permission... I know I'm so hella late
@@MCCatYT and i was hella late to begin with. Look at us go!

i was able to find this en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveling#Skill_XP which pretty much explains it.

How do I edit the cooldown time for perk powers?
i figured it out.
