I don't know what it is, but there is something just amazing about Carson's voice. It's like this blanket that you can wrap around yourself and the whole world just feels good.
Notice how happy Josh is when one of his friends plays perfectly a piece of music with complex rhythm and dynamics. You can see in their faces that they are feeling it. That's the reason why we, musicians, play. It's pure joy when you accomplish that level of playing.
Almost 45 years ago I was skipping school and we went to this dump where the big kids hung out. This guy with a bowler and a banjo says here’s one I wrote. I’ve been doing this song now most of the rest of my life and you guys blow me away. Thanks again Josh you and your gang always make me smile!
seriously can’t figure out how you guys keep producing covers that can sound WAY better than the originals. you’ve got your sound down and you’re sticking to it, thats class!
John Hartford, the writer and original artist to record this song, said once that a woman came up to him and asked if he could play a song that she knew so she could tell if he was any good. He replied with something along the lines of "I based my whole career around that (playing unknown songs)"
Do you guys just walk down the street and magnetically attract into a single bunch of people with such talent as yourselves? I’ve never known or seen a more talented array of artists, nots that this tired old appreciative mind can recall anyway, thankyou my ONLY favourites
I am so encouraged that young players are taking up this great songwriters material. Hartford was a masrer composer and this song is one of his classics. Great great treat to hear your trio.
Y’know, I grew up on a very specific musical diet - I played traditional Scottish music on banjos, guitars and even bagpipes, and the only other genre I listened to was Django Reinhardt stuff (French/Romany jazz, for those unaware of who he is). I never listened to ‘mainstream’ or ‘easy listening’ music because it simply didn’t interest me. That was until I found Josh Turner, following the discovery of his ‘Parfum’ cover. Boy, am I glad. This channel has opened up a whole new world for me, allowing me to discover musicians such as Simon and Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, the Eagles, Jonny Cash, and now, the awesome John Hartford. Thank you. Keep on doing what you’re doing. Your originals are also stunning.
WTG! Cheers to you guys and all those that keep the old classic songs alive... passing them along to the next generation. Keep jamming fellahs love your grooves! Don't leave your records in the sun...
63 year old in 2021 - so happy to see you guys keeping this music alive. Great job. A friend just passed and ‘Back In the Goodle Days’ was rambling round my head. Happy to find this??
I love that I do not know of any of ya'll. But the thing that is of everything is in the bass players face at right about 2 minutes five six to seven seconds. It is the pure human joy of both the brilliance of the banjo picker and what Hartford was truly getting at. Also the guitar player has a voice made of smooth butter. Glad I stumbled upon such humbling talent and taste. Thanks dudes.
Every video just gets better and better. I am always blown away by the awesome musicianship and attention to detail in every song! Keep up the fantastic work, guys!!🎶🎶
Great song and great performance, as always! But you know...something I don't see folks comment on a lot is the quality of the recording. The stereo separation on this one is flipping amazing. Excellent engineering here, guys. Thanks for all of it!
Wow, Thank you so much for the amazing concert in Amsterdam. Great music, Great guitar- / banjo skills, Great singing skills and great personalities! Thanks, I really enjoyed it!
Nice to see some young guys enjoying a tune from John Hartford, and playing it quite well. I've always said if I had to listen to one album for the rest of my life, it would be "Aereo-plain."
Real nice job my friends! This song is very appropriate this week with the passing of David Crosby. David would be honored to know that song is dedicated to him. You guys were probably just little seeds to come when this song was written by John Hartford. I'm sure he heard your performing and was amazed at how you all were so advanced when you were Utes. You have a great vocal blend & all the music just flows in such a rhythm. Hartford probably knew we all would be sitting around tapping our feet to many great memories. Really nicely done. Thank for sharing this performance. Vince James (Ajello)
I can’t seem to find one of my all-time favorite comments. Sharing for posterity: “Unfamiliar foods I will not eat Natural numbers are discrete And every system is incomplete Back in the Gödel days”
I just wrote a short story to tell you guys how much I like your cover of this song. I decided to delete it and simply say, thank you for capturing the spirit of the original and for preforming it so damn well.
Masterful as usual Carson and Josh, your voices are superb and your collaborations look so much fun. Look forward to you recreating this kind of joy when I come to see you play in Paris this weekend!
What a fabulous song. The better the song, the fewer the view count....I can't believe that Glen Campbell never recorded this or played it with Jerry Reed, & Hartford himself on the Goodtime Hour. God this was up Glen's ally. I've been thinking that Josh wld record something that Glen or Jerry or John did any day now...and now he has...and I am so happy with it.
I watched this before I listened to Hartford’s original, what crazy versatility he had! I thought he was a very traditional folk roots banjo picker. But this song fits these young guys so well, could have easily been from some trendy group in 2020
I find it remarkable that people this age even know who John Hartford is. They are so cool
i have Yonder Mountain String Band and Leftover Salmon to thank for that!
I don't know what it is, but there is something just amazing about Carson's voice. It's like this blanket that you can wrap around yourself and the whole world just feels good.
He adds a lot to the vids when he sings. He's got a lot of range and he's very versatile.
Particularly on Don't Think Twice
Sus
@@Bozo_ What do you mean by sus?
I love how Josh gets happy when other people he plays with play amazing. I’ve seen it in a few other of his videos. Always brings a smile to my face.
CstotheZee same for sure
Yes, and I've noticed that live too!!
I so agree - it's adorable.
Reminds me of watching Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges jamming on "Doodles" backstage. Check out the vid
Guess that's because that's when he knows that it's gonna be the right take. We never know how many there was before :)
Notice how happy Josh is when one of his friends plays perfectly a piece of music with complex rhythm and dynamics. You can see in their faces that they are feeling it.
That's the reason why we, musicians, play. It's pure joy when you accomplish that level of playing.
Oh my GOD. John Hartford was a legend. Hes smiling upon you lot now.... what good it is to hear his music honored by our generation. Cheers!
Three years late late with this comment but thank you. Hartford wasn't for everyone but for me he's a true American talent.
Omg. Josh smiling at his friends for being awesome is my favorite thing I've seen in a long time.
Not just good music, but Josh and Carson and friends always put FUN in the music! :-)
I didn’t know the song but loved this cover!! And those banjo skills... amazing
You are in for a treat. John Hartford is a towering giant of American music. Listen to it all.

They play it awesomely... But John Hartford's original version is unbeatable
a great cover, of one of the finest acoustic bluegrass albums form the 70's. Aeroplane! wore that record out back in college.
Richie Allen , aereoplane, I seem to remember
Josh, you almost cracked up at how good his banjo solo was....kudos on keeping it together!
Josh was digging that solo just as much as I was!
Yea buddy!
Very nice guitar solo on the banjo! But the banjo isn't really a guitar, is it?
Other than that I love these people & what they do [musically]!
Still trying to figure out if I like this channel. I’ll listen to a few hundred more of your songs and then decide.
Life In The Fast Lane 🙂

mediamannaman gee, thanks for sharing....... 🙄
Dude. You like it.... 'nuff said.
Good idea, I wouldn't make a quick decision without watching a few hundred more either.
Do you guys just walk down the street and magnetically attract into a single bunch of people with such talent as yourselves? I’ve never known or seen a more talented array of artists, nots that this tired old appreciative mind can recall anyway, thankyou my ONLY favourites
John Hartford sure could put some lyrics together to paint a picture and tell a story. Wish I could sing like Carson!
More John Hartford please. I found him after he’d died. I always love seeing his music performed live.
This is better than anything the music industry is putting out
Caleb!!! Lol I like how I'm just seeing this now...awesome :)
I can just imagine Johnny smiling down on this...thank you. Miss him.
Really excellent. Caleb is a monster musician. Looks like Josh is teetering on the edge of losing it while Caleb shreds. Love this one.
So glad I'm alive to see these fellas make music.
Back in the goodle days I'd listen to Carson and Josh and friends, we had some wonderful young musicians and those were the days.
Refreshing voices and great talent in a single jam session. Congratulations boys!
I am so encouraged that young players are taking up this great songwriters material. Hartford was a masrer composer and this song is one of his classics. Great great treat to hear your trio.
I love the hell out of that !!! I've never heard of it before.
Me neither. Im loving learning new songs played by such amazing artists. 🥰
Always like the session before even hear them play 👍🏻❤️👍🏻
Josh, you and your friends have got it going on. You make me feel like the “goodle” days are still here. 💚
Carson's voice is amazing. Thanks!
Amazing guys...TY
Awesome tribute to an amazing songwriter. Love the banjo
Sublime. Particularly the guitar style banjo solos

Freakin love it. RIP John, who passed today, June 4th many moons ago. 2001
Lovin’ Carson’s voice on this one deep and smooth
When I am bored I say to myself "Okey, be calm, open a cover from Josh" 😍
Spent part of a summer as a kid in Goodles, Michigan. A stone house with a greenhouse attached, not too many broken windows.
it is nice to see young folk enjoying some of my favorite artist's & songs. There is hope!
WTG! Cheers to you guys and all those that keep the old classic songs alive... passing them along to the next generation. Keep jamming fellahs love your grooves!

This is truly awesome. Its great to see the same people my age enjoy the the same genius.
