My take on this classic tune from the album "There Goes Rhymin' Simon." I drew inspiration from the acoustic demo version as well as the studio version. Joining me here are the cast of the show "A Celebration of Paul Simon's Graceland - Live" which ran in the UK in October and November of 2019. Special thanks to Dean Elliot for putting the whole thing together, as well as all of the performers, and our engineers who let me take time out of sound check to record. Full performer credits at the end of the video.

About Josh Turner Guitar
Josh began making UA-cam videos in 2007. Ranging from popular to esoteric, local to far flung, and playful to serious, Josh’s videos offer a little something for everyone. Josh also performs regularly with long-time collaborator, Carson McKee, as the folk duo The Other Favorites. Josh’s first full-length solo album, As Good A Place As Any, was released in April 2019.
Equipment/Techniqes:
Recorded on a Zoom H6, which is visible behind me.
The H6 is set to 120 degree stereo
Lead mic is an Audio Technica AT2050
There is a sennheiser e901 coming from the kick
The guitar and bass are DI via Line 6 stuff
Mixed in pro tools. Some stero widening, as well as eq, compression and saturation all around. Te reverb is almost entirely natural (my mic needed a little bit extra) and is the wonderful sound of Aberdeen Music Hall.
Filmed on a Canon EOS 200D with a 24mm f/2.8. Edited in Premiere.

@@Macatawaman Hmmm. Okay. That explains why he was asked to not wear glasses. But is this supposed to be funny? It doesn't even make sense. Half of these memejokes kids make these days are just assumed funny based on format. It feels like people say "oh I recognize this as a current joke format, therefore it must be funny and I will like it."
Meanwhile, unlike a real joke, it's not funny until someone else explain's multiple things to you. And even then it's still not actually funny.
Nobody out there today is as good as this guy....NO ONE.
I would certainly put Toni Lindgren and Reina del Cid in his league...Josh & Toni could form a 5 piece band with just the two of them participating since they each play so many instruments so well.

Josh has this incredible was of stripping a song down to its core and then performs it in a way that sounds better than the original recording. This guy is a world class talent IMO.

From France too...I'm sixty five, I used to listen to Paul Simon's record in the 70's when it was released, and I also very often click the Josh video button saying "wok wok" ; Or at least on some Josh video saying "osh osh". But it's much much less cute.... :D Anyway, Josh is best!

@@aliceauzou2897 Mes deux petites tornades (frère et soeur, 2 et 5 ans ) étaient ravies et ça leur a donné un prétexte de plus pour danser et sauter partout à la moindre occasion. :-) Je n'avais pas pensé à Baby Driver et Sloop John B. Merci. Je les revois pour les fêtes de fin d'année et j'avais déjà pensé aux chants de Noel de la chaîne.. De tout façon, guitariste amateur mais de bien piètre talent, à la retraite depuis peu, je ne peux qu'être admiratif de l'ensemble du travail de Josh.

Josh seems to be a burning porch light attracting other excellent musicans to him like moths to his light. Every time I see another YT video he has a whole different group of musicians with him and they all always sound freaking superb IF NOT BETTER like they've been playing together for years! This guy just seems to effortlesly ooze music! Ain't never seen nuthin' like it! WOWZA!!!
Why are so many people trying to convince us that everyone's the same? Why can't we celebrate our differences? There's no other way to get that gospel choir sound than to have a gospel choir. The combination of a skinny white boy embellished by a black gospel choir is so perfect for this song.
Its amazing. In the old days, you didn't really see artists until they spent their time honing their skills. We have watched Josh progress through the years via UA-cam. He is now a full fledged star. Way to go Josh.

What a sweet, light touch! That little choir sounds sweet as molasses. All the musicians used their instruments like scalpels. I just can’t say enough. This comes as close to a perfect presentation as can be done.

Of all the things I love about Josh Turner (and there's lots of them) the top of the list is his sheer joy he shows at the music he makes, and the sounds the people with him (if there are any) create. No-one has more fun, and showing it, making music than Josh, and it communicates to the others, and to us!
Haven't heard much of josh's stuff before.....have now....what an incredibly talented musician this lad is....fantastic voice...and excellent guitar player....glad I decided to listen to one of his videos.....got me reaching for my guitar,then heard his guitar playing....and I thought....I'll just throw mine in the bin...lol👌

Very very rarely you come across a cover that just gives you chills. This is one of those times.
The 1 thing I truly love obout Josh is the little signs of pure pleasure and enjoyment he shows. Abuntantly clear in this. He's always smiling or smirking. This was an awesome performence. It is also important to note just how much fun everyone is having here. Espescialy the percussion section (shakers & tambo) 😂😂 I love this video and have watched about a gagillion times.

Stuck home in coronavirus lockdown. I can't tell you how it brightens my day to see a bunch of fantastic musicians who obviously love what they are doing and are having fun. Except the the electric guitar player - he needs to smile more. Josh looks like he is truly have a blast.

Sorry, if I sound picky, but I believe the lyric is "consecrated" vs josh: "consummated". Listened to greatest hits a million or so times...decades ago.

@@ellencooney5563 It is both. 1st he's consecrated, then he's consummated. Play it again and you will note that Josh sang "consecrated" first line, and followed "consummated" the 2nd line. Same as Paul Simon does it.

This is better than the original. Its slower and the soul from the backup singers overflows and has it's own presence. The key changes are sheer brilliance as well - those really elevate this performance to another level and exhibit mastery.

Josh puts together ensembles like this where he is the feature but the backup singers and picker are just as good and he knows it.
His time is here. In my view Josh will be a major star, with a long and brilliant career, because he really loves music and has put in the work--nothing fake about him. Inspiring!

I was at the concert in Aberdeen! It was amazing, made my whole year. The South African choir were great, so full of energy, and of course Josh was incresible, as was the woman playing a million different instruments.
Jeez, I'd stumbled across a few of his videos so I knew he was an awesome guitarist, but this was eye-opening. Vocals were magnificent!
