the song that played in the "i will wear your skins" part is "teddy bear picnic" by henry hall. not only does the old-timey song add to the creepiness of it, but also the lyrics may have a connection to the story- most notably the ones we hear in the video, "if you go down in the woods today, youre sure of a big surprise" likely meaning the chamber in the woods. plus, the next line tells you to go in disguise- perhaps the skins are a disguise for these weird creatures?
Especially since the PSA at the beginning explicitly implores you to lock down your home and have a weapon at the ready to defend yourself at all costs by any means necessary. Seeing, say, found security footage of someone at least trying to fight back could highlight how much of a threat those monsters really are.

The guy who took the sewer shot is lucky as Hell to have been in a town with grated storm drains. Even then I don't think my heart would be able to pump blood after the shock of seeing this...thing
this has a lot in common with mandela catalogue... -strange, twisted faces -the generated whispers -vhs style -a lot of black and white contrast i dunno...
Whilst it's pretty good, it unfortunately really feels like a rehash of Mandela Catalogue. Even down to it's name. Mandela County, Basswood County. It's kind of blatant. I hope it creates it's own unique identity because so far it is nothing more than a reskin with potential.
One of my favorite analog horror genres is EAS Scenarios for SCPs. A good example is Alert World's "SCP-280 Eyes In The Dark" video. The simplified symbols of the horrific creatures really leaves a lot to the imagination, while the robotic voice-overs and "Remain calm in imminent danger" vibe really crank it up for me.
This series wears its inspirations on its sleeve, but i see it more as an homage than a copycat. It does tread the line of plagiarism. Evil beinga that steal your likeness? Where have I seen that? Humanoids that break into your house from another realm? Old VHS movies clips with a sinister twist? Police tapes? A detective character who ends up becomig a victim? Where they really set themsleves apart is with the lore surrounding the Chamber. But unfortunately, they used way too many tropes. I guess they are limited by the genre. But in spite of that, I would call this series a success. A lot of work went into artistic design, and that alone is praise worthy.
Mentioned far too many things overrule its praise. You're praiaing too little with standards too low, this is hardly better than any other new analog horror which is doing the exact same tropes
all the victims recording be like "hmm, there is something dangerous in my house with me, and i recognize this going through the front door. Shall i exit out the front door which I am standing at, or proceed inside?"
tbh ion think i'll ever grow tired of the EM broadcast system + human-like creatures combo, it's really the first horror style in a long time i've found genuinely interesting
you know, this is really inspiring to me as a horror writer, because this is so fucking corny and y'all are acting like it's the scariest thing in the world
i feel like all of these 'next big analog horror series' just end up being the mandela catalogue with some glitter on it. its getting to be kinda predictable
I remember I was watching the one where it says something like “sleep at even time numbers” Like at 3:00 in the morning, so guess what I did? I didn’t sleep for the next 2 hours. 😭😭😭😭
tbh i went into the series thinking "yeah, it's late at night, but it's just gonna be a silly mandela catalogue clone haha" but then that shot of the creature looking into the window in alberson's tapes had me awake well past sunrise
Your commentary and editing is sharp as always but for the series per se i think it was too all over the place, despite some pretty nice scenes, most of them just gave me the laughs instead of spooking me, like the "found footages" Also the sudden glitches and out of nowhere creepy faces like some folks pointed out in the comments. But its not that bad, just an ok series.
I feel like this analog horror is weak as hell tbh. its story beats are *very* generic and predictable (and a narrative doesn't even seem to exist outside "uh oh! the creature!"), and it makes no effort at any kind of suspense. It seems way too eager to bombard the viewer with creepy images which get old pretty quickly. None of the victims feel like actual human beings victimized by some frightening attacker given how they walk straight into the warning signs and danger with no real emotion or reaction, feeling more like vessels who exist with the purpose of rushing the viewer into the next freeze-frame scary image. Its overly on the nose, and just... Not scary. With that said, that is a criticism of the analog "horror" itself. This video on the other hand does a really good job of going through the paces of the analog and is generally pretty well done.
Bro that LITERALLY went down the list of internet horror cliches. Long limbs, long everything, an “unnatural face” which is insanely vague and worthless as like a quality to IDENTIFY something, menacing eyes, and then of course they have to throw in a smile. Can’t have an analog horror creature that isn’t SMILING that would be nuts
As someone who grew up in the VHS and hime movie era, one thing that really irks me is that I never watched any videos that looked that crap, nor did anyone ever watch a vid with the tracking and dirty heads lines all across the screen. The first thing you did if you saw those lines was hit the auto tracking button or get the head cleaning tape out. These 'analogue' horror channels also seem.to get their eras mixed up...8mm and 16mm was not VHS or Beta. And they mix everything up from the 1920s to the 1990s in one huge mess. They are all getting very veeery same same.

Basswood county is a rushed and stale analog horror. It just doesn't keep up with other A-horror when they only have the skills/budget to use still images when showing the "monsters". You can show the pov of someone holding the camera but when it cuts to separate frames when the monsters are shown it just shows that the creator isn't ready to make something like this. The images also looks really low effort and almost at a microsoft paint-level quality. Again: having still images with slightly AI-morphed faces isn't scary by todays standard.
Same with all of these analog horror analysis channels. > here is the Plainsville Pulverizer, I think it's a very scary piece of analog horror > here's 2 minutes of uninterrupted footage from the video > I'm going to tell you literally everything that happened here > rinse and repeat > upload with the title "the first analog horror to make me go bald" or some other somewhat vague and eye-catching title, bonus points if it's arbitrarily all lower case And if you're lucky, they might just add an original idea or two!
"This guy" is the creator, Dark Mind. Pretty sure it is him. He pops up constantly. He is image #5, he is the hands on the curtain, he is the "what does his face look like?" dude, he is also the guy in the ad who says he will catch up with you, and the eyes that open up around 23:17 and the victim in bed going through the transformation.
11:46 I am by no means saying this was a goofy susus amogus jumpscare but the fact that you called a spooky face in the dark being "horror at it's finest", I bursted out laughing
4:49 Personal opinion, but this feels like an understatement, at first I loved Vita Carnis' concept till the mimic, I don't mind emergencies broadcasts, but humanoid figures will end up losing their value due to over utilization, as someone who was frightened with Mandela Catalogue and other series at launch, nowadays it just feels like "Oh yeah, distorted humanoid figure." to the point I barely get the uncanny valley feeling anymore.
i don’t think i’ll ever get tired of humanoid horrors. it’s fascinating and equally terrifying. I always think about how we are most likely making up stories about things our ancestors actually dealt with.
I actually have to really appreciate the art style of this series. Already scary concept aside, it's so visceral and pretty much every image triggers my fight or flight. This is some serious talent. It's like if Urban Spook decided to make their own take on Mandela Catalogue or Vita Carnis.
Damn. The first 4 minutes made me think this was gonna be another SMILE tapes (which were incredibly boring and tryhardy imo), but that first "jumpscare" really got me. I mean, it's not even a super fast jumpscare but the sudden flash of this creatures long-ass neck surprised me.
14:02 The song behind this audio is The Teddy Bears’ Picnic by Henry Hall If anyone was curious Though I feel like the song Boogeyman by the same artist would have been more fitting
turns out that theres actually alot of criminals with name calvin basswood, however, they were convicted for either burglary or drunk driving. so yeah, i didnt find any special cases
This horror analogue series has a lot of potential, however, when watching this video I couldn't help but notice the gigantic similarity to the Mandela Catalogue. It starts with an instructional video, scary faces, some evidence that these monsters have been walking the earth since ancient times (in the case of Mandela it was an 'overthrone' video in the case of Basswood County we have something like a drawing of a creature with a warning and then man from 1868 meeting these creatures) and then something with the police, just as it was in Mandela Catalogue. The face tests is also not an original idea, because I have to admit that it immediately reminded me of the games "Assessment Examination" and "The Longeyed Project" where you have to choose one face from two creepy faces. Many people may find this horror analogue cool and enjoy it. I have no problem with that and I am just stating my opinion.
I don’t know if any of what I am doing actually helps, but I just want to say that I love your work and I am proud to be a subscriber! Keep up the great work!❤❤❤
i'm pretty sure the text on the "have you seen this face" poster says (and some of it i couldn't make out so stick w/ me here) "CLOSE YOUR ___ DOORS AND WINDOWS AND STAY INSIDE. something has been killing people in basswood county that looks like a human" At least thats what i think it says

The guy who took the sewer shot is lucky as Hell to have been in a town with grated storm drains. Even then I don't think my heart would be able to pump blood after the shock of seeing this...thing
The poster at 2:53 says "Something has been killing people in Basswood County which looks like a human." Far simpler text than what you'd imagine.
this has a lot in common with mandela catalogue...
-strange, twisted faces
-the generated whispers
-vhs style
-a lot of black and white contrast
i dunno...
Well done covering this! It is one of my favorites to get those uneasy vibes.
Whilst it's pretty good, it unfortunately really feels like a rehash of Mandela Catalogue. Even down to it's name. Mandela County, Basswood County. It's kind of blatant. I hope it creates it's own unique identity because so far it is nothing more than a reskin with potential.
fr, it feels like just a copy paste of mandela county lmao
Yeah, it just felt like the same story just without like religion as a part of it. :/
the fact it appears to be teasing people somtimes or just taking there camera and showering there amutated arm is... very unnerving
This feels heavily inspired by the mandela catalogue
Creatures impersonating humans was something Mandela copied? Or made it more spooky?
Bro my exact irrational fear is seeing things staring at me around corners, its like this was made to fuck with me
One of my favorite analog horror genres is EAS Scenarios for SCPs.
A good example is Alert World's "SCP-280 Eyes In The Dark" video. The simplified symbols of the horrific creatures really leaves a lot to the imagination, while the robotic voice-overs and "Remain calm in imminent danger" vibe really crank it up for me.
"to show off his handy work" inserts patrick Booooo. that was golden thank you for that.
i remember back when this series was so unknown…after watching it i couldn’t find it for months. that’s how underground it was
“Are you still awake????” I was falling asleep but I am awake now, yes.
I’m getting serious Mandela catalog vibes
Yeah no shit
all the victims recording be like "hmm, there is something dangerous in my house with me, and i recognize this going through the front door. Shall i exit out the front door which I am standing at, or proceed inside?"
tbh ion think i'll ever grow tired of the EM broadcast system + human-like creatures combo, it's really the first horror style in a long time i've found genuinely interesting
Who tf is just standing in there hall watch the scariest creature just start at them
They either have a death wish or were frozen in fear
you know, this is really inspiring to me as a horror writer, because this is so fucking corny and y'all are acting like it's the scariest thing in the world
I bet your writing will be less corny.
@@xXSamir44Xx thank you for having faith in me, stranger
i feel like all of these 'next big analog horror series' just end up being the mandela catalogue with some glitter on it. its getting to be kinda predictable
9:06 I dead ass thought it was just some naked dude and you had to sensor it and thats what I conjured up
6:39😂😂 dr Phil
22:30 absolute fear
22:34 reflex to get out of my chair and start spinning
If this series monster is a brain parasite than I'm truly safe.
I remember I was watching the one where it says something like “sleep at even time numbers” Like at 3:00 in the morning, so guess what I did? I didn’t sleep for the next 2 hours. 😭😭😭😭
So you slept at an uneven number? They'll make sure you don't do that again
Even though 4:00 was an hour away?
I stopped being scared when you added the open the door or I’m gonna throw rocks
I wanted to like it but I just couldn't find it scary because the creatures look too cartoonish.
Holy frick just seeing the clips filled me with such dread. When your narration cut out to show one I had to cover the screen then back up 😭
tbh i went into the series thinking "yeah, it's late at night, but it's just gonna be a silly mandela catalogue clone haha" but then that shot of the creature looking into the window in alberson's tapes had me awake well past sunrise
But your not wrong in thinking it's a mandela catalogue copycat
Your commentary and editing is sharp as always but for the series per se i think it was too all over the place, despite some pretty nice scenes, most of them just gave me the laughs instead of spooking me, like the "found footages"
Also the sudden glitches and out of nowhere creepy faces like some folks pointed out in the comments. But its not that bad, just an ok series.
Can't forget about Gemini home entertainment and how wood crawlers can so easily kill and invade your home
Can’t have an analog horror creature that isn’t SMILING that would be nuts
always nice to see when you upload
As someone who grew up in the VHS and hime movie era, one thing that really irks me is that I never watched any videos that looked that crap, nor did anyone ever watch a vid with the tracking and dirty heads lines all across the screen. The first thing you did if you saw those lines was hit the auto tracking button or get the head cleaning tape out.
These 'analogue' horror channels also seem.to get their eras mixed up...8mm and 16mm was not VHS or Beta. And they mix everything up from the 1920s to the 1990s in one huge mess. They are all getting very veeery same same.

The best part about this type of horror is that it doesn't over-rely on earblasting you with jumpscares. It just straight up makes you feel unsafe.
Gettin close to the 100 k milestone keep it up my man
It’s Alfredo 😭
Basswood county is a rushed and stale analog horror.
It just doesn't keep up with other A-horror when they only have the skills/budget to use still images when showing the "monsters".
You can show the pov of someone holding the camera but when it cuts to separate frames when the monsters are shown it just shows that the creator isn't ready to make something like this.
The images also looks really low effort and almost at a microsoft paint-level quality.
Again: having still images with slightly AI-morphed faces isn't scary by todays standard.
21:08 I almost threw my damn phone!!!!
SAME
I know i only skipped to this part bc of the thumbnail and i knew it was coming but it still got me man
I feel all of these analog horror series are exactly the same.
They are💀
Make something better then Lil bro
@@evaangames3280 nah
I love how all of these analog horror channels are like carbon copies of eachother and are basically the exact same set up and formula
True. This one in particular is super cheap and lazy because it just shows some black text while flashing a scary face every few seconds.
But for some reason it works
@@count_bodies_like_sheep9296yes it works to effing bore the p!ss out of me
Same with all of these analog horror analysis channels.
> here is the Plainsville Pulverizer, I think it's a very scary piece of analog horror

> I'm going to tell you literally everything that happened here
> rinse and repeat
> upload with the title "the first analog horror to make me go bald" or some other somewhat vague and eye-catching title, bonus points if it's arbitrarily all lower case
And if you're lucky, they might just add an original idea or two!

Oh Look, it is the Mandela Catalogue faces and spooky music , AGAIN, Analog horror is truly getting the freddy fazzbear treatment
That thumbnail can only be described with one word; uncomfortable
analog horror beats the point of "the camera man never dies "
"This guy" is the creator, Dark Mind. Pretty sure it is him. He pops up constantly. He is image #5, he is the hands on the curtain, he is the "what does his face look like?" dude, he is also the guy in the ad who says he will catch up with you, and the eyes that open up around 23:17 and the victim in bed going through the transformation.
11:46 I am by no means saying this was a goofy susus amogus jumpscare but the fact that you called a spooky face in the dark being "horror at it's finest", I bursted out laughing
I am shaking with excitement (and fear), cannot wait to experience this!
Edit: for what it’s worth, i laughed at the handiwork joke
7:06 how do people find stuff like that scary, its more goofy to me
Love the Microsoft Sam voice. Haven't heard that in ages.
As someone who gets easily freaked out by distorted faces, this one gets to me more than most horror stuff.
this seems allot like the Mandela catalog
"CLOSE YOUR HOUSE DOORS WINDOWS & STAY INSIDE"
"Something has been killing people in basswood county which looks like a human"
Not impossible clearly.
4:49
Personal opinion, but this feels like an understatement, at first I loved Vita Carnis' concept till the mimic, I don't mind emergencies broadcasts, but humanoid figures will end up losing their value due to over utilization, as someone who was frightened with Mandela Catalogue and other series at launch, nowadays it just feels like "Oh yeah, distorted humanoid figure." to the point I barely get the uncanny valley feeling anymore.
At 7:36, it looks like the same tests for people who are having a good time, just like in the Subliminal Land Anolog Horror series.
i don’t think i’ll ever get tired of humanoid horrors. it’s fascinating and equally terrifying.
I always think about how we are most likely making up stories about things our ancestors actually dealt with.
16:41 did this man just sneak in Logan Paul as he was speaking about the forest😂
I mean, it's not even a super fast jumpscare but the sudden flash of this creatures long-ass neck surprised me.
the way i fit the monster's description is crazy
24:20 Mark Zuckerberg is in on it too
Honestly I don't mind the creatures and messages because horror these days amounts to orbs, and furniture moving.
good art but tbh this is just mandela catalogue and greylock
1:46 i cant take this seriously because its the Master Chief voice from “Arby and the Chief”
something to listen to while studying lets go!
camera men always the strongest until it comes to analog horror😭
14:02
The song behind this audio is The Teddy Bears’ Picnic by Henry Hall
If anyone was curious
Though I feel like the song Boogeyman by the same artist would have been more fitting

when the analog horror series has someone walking down a hallway with no sound and a camera: *devious emoji*
turns out that theres actually alot of criminals with name calvin basswood, however, they were convicted for either burglary or drunk driving. so yeah, i didnt find any special cases
Are you still awake??? 😮
"My analogue horror series focusses on humanoid figures that stalk and kill you"
"How original"
"They're also really old"
"Daring today aren't we?"
Kinda like invasion of the body snatchers
