    I am neither a fan nor a hater of Murakami but I believe you truly enjoy his books when you are overwhelmed in life. There is a specific mood that makes reading his books an amazing experience and its not possible to just pick up a Murakami and enjoy it.

    "But since it's billions of years old..." As someone born in the 80's.... 😭😭😭🤣💀
    Aside from that, I read 1Q84 when it came out as my first Murakami and I found it so boring and bizarre that I never read another one of his novels. I've seen book vloggers like yourself praising him as one of your favorite authors and I always thought he just wasn't for me. BUT NOW watching you struggle through this crazy book makes me think I just started with the wrong Murakami!
    I am living for these cozy-beginning-of-fall vlogs! 🍁

    • @ba-gg6jo
      @ba-gg6jo 9 днів тому +7

      If you thought 1Q84 was boring you will probably struggle with any of his others. I have always thought there is a touch of "emperors new clothes" about this author. Try Kazuo Ishiguro, much more assessable, and unlike Murakami he isn't up his own a*se. Happy reading😁😁

    • @redpixi07
      @redpixi07 9 днів тому +1

      @@ba-gg6jo I think I agree with that sentiment but I should probably read at least one more of his better-loved books before I put that conclusion in stone. I’ve read Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go which I definitely found more meaningful/enjoyable.

    I also had to cut out coffee, due to anxiety! Honestly at the point where I am also cutting alcohol and other substances because of it too. Initially felt kinda resentful about it but it's gotten easier over time, especially when I break my own rules and remember how bad these things make me feel. Love your description of feeling grounded on the ground floor. Romantic way to describe something would-be mundane. Happy fall!

    So my coffee hack is that I'll slowly sip on my iced coffee throughout the morning. I call it "extended release coffee" lol. It keeps me energized for longer and prevents me from feeling all the caffeine hit at once. Would recommend if you like iced coffee. I usually just brew my coffee over ice at home (no need to buy from a store or use a fancy contraption.) When I drink hot coffee in the Fall and Winter I put it in a good thermos so it stays hotter longer and I can take my time drinking it, creating the extended release effect.

Emma, it stood out for me when you talked about being on ground level rather than up in the sky. Wow. I live up one flight of stairs and I like it because it's a condo complex and nobody can walk past my windows. I have privacy, quiet most of the time, and a view. But you are obviously an Earth person. You love the things that grow and walk and crawl there. I can't wait for you to get out of that nest and back on firm ground. Peace.

    “I hope you like these cozy home videos” - of course I do, don't doubt it).
    The moment where the cat is sitting on the window and it started to rain - super. “Total immersion”. Very atmospheric, the sounds of wind, rain and this country house life, the camera transmits the sounds well, “immerses” directly.
    Regarding coffee, have you tried Chicory? It tastes like coffee, but the flavor is a little less pronounced. It has no caffeine at all, and it's very healthy. It can sometimes lower your blood pressure a little bit because it's relaxing. Try it, see if it works for you.
    Thanks for the video!

    i unfortunately read Ladies paradise a few month ago ! i am so sad i couldn't join the book club for this month !
    it was also my first zola and oh my god i loved it ! i know you will have a great time with it ! the protagonist can be an irritant because she is so nice and gentle... but the rest of the characters are sometimes heart-warming or pain in the ass. zola is impressive with his descriptions you really move in the store with the crowd that is a character itself ! and so much more !!!
    i am french and zola is a big deal and everyone keeps telling me that this isn't his best work, i can't wait to read more !! and i don't know if you know that Ladies paradise is part of a series that is considered as one of the biggest literary project "les rougon-macquart". zola wanted to write about the parisian (french) society of his time so if you like "Ladies paradise" you will have so much more to read in the same "spirit" even if they have different topics

      I read a few from that series and I want to read more. But I'm afraid that some are more heavy in terms of the social issues presented and that I won't like them. Germinal is said to the the best of them. I liked Au bonheur des dames best, I think, seems the most light-hearted from all I read. I also liked l'Assommoir a lot, but it's a bit heavier. Reading them in order would also be something. 😅😅 Greetings from Romania. 😊

Also im sure youve already heard but decaf has caffiene in it, just less. 13:47 when you showed the belljar with mushrooms in it and talked about the way you love the theme of preservation of objects it immediately made me think of Yoko Ogawa's book ''kusuriyubi no hyoho'' (hopefully that's the title they used in the english edition 'cause I read it in italian and I'm not sure tbh😅). I think you would love that story, if you haven't read it already of course 🍄

    Awww it's been years since I've been to Stratford and I miss it so much. Thanks for sharing little tidbits of your trip with us - it was a wonderful trip down memory lane. And I'm so excited to see what you think of The Halloween Tree! I read Something Wicked This Way Comes last year and the prose was absolutely delicious, so I've been considering following it with Bradbury's other halloween book :) thanks for the great video Emma

    I need to get that book. I never realised your still reading it, but considering the size of it, I'm not suprised. I'm going to get it tommmorrow but I'm heading into the wilderness in the North of Scotland. I just hope there is a book shop up there.

    I love your videos, also drink the dam coffee Emma. Coffee isn't the devil. For me it's one of life's small pleasures. If it's not serving you definitely cut down, but if you love it, then have it! Also I am not a Doctor, but, I have read that coffee is rich is antioxidants, including polyphenols... I think it's all about moderation :) Giving you support from a fellow coffee and book lover in the UK!

    I stayed in Stratford a few years back. I never saw anything nice though. I was hiding out in a motel in February (very cold, very snowy) as I was trying to flee back to the uk to get as far away as possible from my crazy ex mother-in-law in Kitchener. It’s a whole story 🤣 Now I wish it had been in the autumn! 😊

    12:38 Maybe they're not oven-roasted. If they are raw u can oven-roast them at home.☺
    And dates can be dried. Hope this helps!

    Some books come up with a label, Freeze before you open, to account for undetected bugs.
