Really really liked this video Alec - super informative, relaxing and great to learn about the methods and techniques behind the fast motion forging videos - please try and do more of them in the future!!
Loved this style of video! Super relaxed very fun to watch and informative. Absolutely loved it and would live to see more of these style videos in future.
Personally, I really enjoy these instructional videos. I've never forged, but every one I watch makes me believe that if/when I try, I'll have a better understanding than ever before. Thanks Alec! ⚒️
This is what I want from you. This is what you’re best at...teaching the art of welding. The “fun” videos, the “big build” videos are ....just that...fun...but this kind of quality, from somebody I want to listen to....is a rarity. Keep it up, brother!
really enjoyed the walkthrough and explanation of why things are done a certain way. i would have never thought to punch a hole like that... i would have definitely used a drill press or something haha! nice video!
As someone who's never done any blacksmithing, I really loved this video. I think it'd be great to pepper these slowed down basics videos in once and a while.
I love these videos where you just do something simple and explain what you're doing. It comes off as a lot more personal and I love that about your content.
I really loved this video for a couple of reasons. 1. It was a simple utilitarian project. 2. You tutored/educates with walking through what you did with the first piece. 3. Once we all had written down our notes on the first piece the trademark cinematography kicked in and we ended up both educated and fascinated. It’s great that when you do some simple stuff you can take a bit of time to show what your doing. It is understandable with your schedule that on the more labor intensive pieces that you need to cut out a lot of the yack yack. So I think you found a great balance going forward. Keep up the “fantastic” work!
i liked the slower "teaching you something" format, perhaps you could work out a schedule of these to fill in your uploads so you don't have big project overload. it can be fun to hear the nuance of techniques explained in detail, even if it's something we already see you doing in other videos
Noah Fix: Yes. Repetition is key. I had a teacher that wouldn't always remember where he left off. So he would often repeat something he already covered, three times on some topics. Easy A in that class.
Good ol blacksmithing, nice to see and hear. Lovely little instructional vid which hit all the tick boxes for me. Weapons are nice and so is damascus but i remember the younger you telling the world how its done. Maybe one old school vid like this a week? Seeing as the live show isn't here anymore? Love your stuff sir, keep it up 😁👍🤘
Love the simple problem solving category of video! It’s also aesthetically pleasing to see you customize the shop to your liking, keep up the good work Alec!
I was thinking like 1/4 of the way through how much I liked this video. By far my favorite in a long time. I get you gotta do collaborations and fancy editing and merch plugs to try and grow the channel. But what got me hooked was just the simple footage of you actually blacksmithing in real time passing on advice and knowledge about techniques you use as the Smith not just the process in general. This was a great video and I hope to see many more like it!
Liking the old style coming back, the more instructional the videos are the better they seem to be. Although i do still love the all Alec videos with a lot more stuff about yourself and the way stuff is going on in your workshop and so on.
Hey Alec, that talk about coatings and hot oil sparked a memory! Recently I prepared a Welsh Bakestone for it's first cook. This is done with nothing more than oil and salt. It is heated up over a hob, the oil lightly brushed on and salt sprinkled. The oil and salt heat up and turn black, cooking onto the metal and you repeat a number of times. It gives a durable black slightly shiny finish and makes your welsh cakes taste heavenly ;) Of course, this option doesn't have to remain in the kitchen.
Bravo Alec! Many of us have been missing your older style videos for a while now, thanks for making another! It has been a nice change from the fast paced videos of late. I'm sure I'm not the only person here who would love to see a few more videos like this come back to the channel. Simple, edumacational and relaxing. My 'bravo' was genuine. Cheers from the land down under 👍🏻
Back to basics, Alec...I love it! There's nothing wrong with that. I love the entertainment of your videos, but I value the instruction even more. Thank you
I love this, Alec. I missed your edutainment videos. Not that your flashy builds aren't bad but your more educational stuff is refreshing every so often.
Hey Alec! I've been watching your videos since you were forging tapers and leaves. I always found them informative and extremley entertaining. I love the new stuff you are doing now, but it is refreshing to see you slow down again and explain blacksmithing to the novices.
As much as I love watching you make something from Damascus or something ornate, I also love it when you make something practical. Instead of buying it from a hardware store, you just make what you need. When I was working for a locksmith, we often made things for the workshop ourselves, because it wasn't always possible to buy exactly what we needed in the right dimensions. It always gave me a sense of satisfaction, knowing we hadn't just bought it, but I'd made it. I miss that aspect of working for that locksmith, but I don't miss the nervous break down he gave me.
I like that you explained more about how AND why you were doing things the way you were. It's great for those of us who don't have any experience with blacksmithing. Thanks.
Old time blacksmiths made all sorts of practical metal items for the farm and home. It would be enjoyable to see more such items being forged instead of the exotic blade work. There are many channels dedicated to those things. Alex does so well with his brilliant mind thinking up these kinds of projects. Keep up the good work. Love watching a genius at work.
Hey Alec, I just wanted to tell you, that I really enjoyed this type of video with you explaining and teaching what you're doing. I would love to see more!
Don’t often comment but had to.....best video in quite a while. Calm, clear, fluid and awesome. No flashy cutaways or garish music. More videos like this PLEEEEEEEASE 👍🏻
This was a fascinating video, great look into you working mind. Also some great tips from a pro and natural blacksmith that make scene with its logical progression
Good stuff man. More of this please. Love this type of video. Straight to the point, Short and sweet with good solid explanation. Great job keep this up!
I enjoy your videos greatly when you take the time to address the steps you take when forging and your justifications for doing it that way! keep up the quality work dude!
I too enjoy this informative narrative providing good learning opportunities. The layout prep, the clever counter sunk hole, the working temperature dynamic points all provide meaningful insights. I doo feel like I learnerd something. Thanks.
This is actually one of my favorite videos of yours. I love the explanations of what you were doing and why. I'm very much not anything close to a blacksmith, so it's interesting to hear the craftsmanship logic that goes behind the decisions that you make for even something as "basic" as some hooks.
I started watching your videos when you were at Barker Street and there when you did the live videos you explained what you were doing like this. I like this type of video and the forge seems a lot more quiet in a bigger shop. Keep up the good work Alec.
Definitely enjoyed the deeper understanding of what you're doing. I can always glean something from watching you forge, but this was very educational and went into how the metal was going to behave at certain temperatures, rather than "Do it this way" Very interesting, and as always great content Alec!
love having a little more explanation, very helpful to someone like me who like to think they are a hobbyist blacksmith but rarely has time to actually do anything.
I know this was one of the simpler builds for you Alec but the instruction in this video was perfect. I loved the step by step and how you went over everything! Great video and thank you!
Alec, this was SPECTACULAR!!! It is so awesome from time to time you explaining things you do. Keep of the GREAT WORK!!! Really enjoy watching all the things you make.
Alec I have only been watching your videos for a couple months and I love them, but I absolutely loved this video the most. I am quite interested in getting into blacksmithing and loved learning some of the tricks! Thank you!!
Had a lovely time watching, I rather enjoy the explanations for the tasks that are second nature to a blacksmith. Yet often fly over the heads us we, the not blacksmithing people of the internet. Thank you.
Nice video, while I find most of your stuff entertaining and marvel at what I can’t do yet/don’t have the equipment to do, it’s nice to see some instruction and to learn something. I even looked at the tools you used and made a note to make some. Thanks
I really enjoyed this style of episode, please do more like this. It's all fun and nice when I make knives everyday, but it's better when I can do more practical stuff, like this. Do more like this!
Fantastic job of explaining everything. I've been watching your videos for awhile and know what you're doing, but I like the extra info. You can never stop learning.
EXCELLENT! This is EXACTLY the kind of content I like (and need). As I am not (yet) a blacksmith, I thoroughly enjoyed the rather basic content of this segment. Although it might not be exciting enough for some, I much prefer these types of presentations, which teach me something while entertaining. As always, thanks for sharing, Alec. Steve
Definitely a pleasant change of pace compared to what you've been putting out for a while now. Loved this. Also love everything else you've been putting out. Always happy when your latest video releases! Keep Hammering
Really missed your informative content! Glad you came back to your roots!! Keep the amazing videos going Alec!! Look forward to watching your vids everyday! 👍🏽👍🏽
This kind of videos, altough not so exciting, are more encouraging for newcommers. It shows little projects we can overcome and Perfect the basic skills
Alec, best video since the Barker St. videos you made several months ago!! I started watching your live shows over a year ago. You inspired me to fabricate a propane fueled forge, buy an anvil, etc. I also fabricated an anvil stand and welding table. It's been a long, enjoyable process. I'm close to start using these tools....finally. I plan on buying your instructional videos to help me along. :)
alec this is the first time you have done any sort of teaching since you left the other shop i hope to see more of it as i have been one of your long time sub its been just over a year since i subscribed and man have you grown in numbers you must be 20 years old now come on tell us what month your birthday is
Thank you so much Alec! I have been asking the past couple videos what you do to stop the rust from happening. I was going to go with WD-40 after a little research but I will try the vegetable oil next.
One of my favorite episodes! I have never ever forged anything and usually your videos make it look really hard. Your explanation in this video makes me want to start hitting hot metal with a hammer! Thanks man.
I have to say Alec that I thoroughly enjoy all of the Cinematic qualities you put into it. I love the hard work. However I love when you engage more this video definitely showed that.
As an amateur blacksmith, I absolutely loved this. Thank you! Now I have a few new ideas to try. It was educational stuff like this that got me to sub back when you had 30k subs or so.
Hello Alec. the protection you give with the oil is what we call (seasonning). It's often used for iron pan before we use it. It create a non-stick surface. The reason why it's better to apply it when it's hot, it's because you polymerized the oil or fat when you apply it. you can do this technique with almost any metal or source of fat/oil.
Great video Alec! Not a blacksmith (yet), but had so many questions that were answered in this video that I'll probably have to rewatch to take it all in. Please do more like this every once in a while, you're good at explaining this stuff!
awesome video, I appreciate the return to the more instructive format. You truly are a great teacher and I enjoy learning as well as being entertained. thanks
Nice to see you still do videos where you do more basic stuft and explaning. Missed it next to all those videos, that looked like music clips. Do more of that!
Funny. I was just thinking how I sort of missed your older videos when the projects were simpler and you went over what you did.
Thanks.
Agreed. I LOVE the highly produced blacksmith porn you do, but a mix of that and a little of the old tutorials would be good.
Same. Miss the live show too
Holy crap guys over the past couple videos I was thinking exactly the same thing. its like Alec read our minds!!!!!!
courier11sec me too!
Agreed, love the tutorial video's! Thx for switching it up Alec! Have a blessed day in Jesus name!
Really really liked this video Alec - super informative, relaxing and great to learn about the methods and techniques behind the fast motion forging videos - please try and do more of them in the future!!
Yeah, I like to sit back and watch.

Thanks for spending a lot of time describing what exactly you were doing Alec. I liked the format of this video
I really loved this video for a couple of reasons.

Alec straight up and down is called "plumb" and is in the vertical axis level is in the horizontal axis. Really enjoy your videos.

Exactly. That "countersinking" technique is definitely a stroke of genius... I would have never thought about that by myself...
Love the tutorial type vids pls carry on with theses
Good ol blacksmithing, nice to see and hear. Lovely little instructional vid which hit all the tick boxes for me. Really loved the instructional elements of this video. It was a great change of pace and extremely helpful. I would definitely like to see more!
Alec, you're always at your best when you do these technique and explanational hand forging videos.
These are the alec steele videos I miss enjoyed this very much thank you😀👍
BTB Presents yeah you right
Add one vote for the informative "craft secrets" type of videos.. Its nice to see these in the mix.. I was utterly engaged for the whole time!!
I love this, Alec.
I missed your edutainment videos. Not that your flashy builds aren't bad but your more educational stuff is refreshing every so often.

for a really simple video, this was really enjoyable!
Great video. Love the educational ones where you do more of a deep dive like these, especially on simple things like these hooks. Keep them coming!
My night wasn’t complete last night 😀😀 tonight it is 😀
I like these sort of instructional videos alot. I want to blacksmith things for around the house. Hooks, towel bars, gate hinges, pull latches.
Don’t often comment but had to.....best video in quite a while. Calm, clear, fluid and awesome. No flashy cutaways or garish music. More videos like this PLEEEEEEEASE 👍🏻

I asked you to do this style of video before and might I say nailed it. Maybe not the whole video like it but one thing here and there 👍👍
Dynamic, informative, straight forward. This is the kind of video many of us love to see much more often... thanks for this one.
I too enjoy this informative narrative providing good learning opportunities. The layout prep, the clever counter sunk hole, the working temperature dynamic points all provide meaningful insights. I doo feel like I learnerd something. Thanks.
Hi Alec. I really enjoy all your videos but it was nice to have you explain the process and thinking around the work today. Thanks.

I'm very much not anything close to a blacksmith, so it's interesting to hear the craftsmanship logic that goes behind the decisions that you make for even something as "basic" as some hooks.
Finally!!! I've really missed this style of video. All your work is great but I like these style of videos much better. Thanks Alec!
I started watching your videos when you were at Barker Street and there when you did the live videos you explained what you were doing like this. I like this type of video and the forge seems a lot more quiet in a bigger shop. Keep up the good work Alec.
Beautiful tutorial on basic forging. Thats why I love this channel, Alec! It's fun, entertaining, and a whole lot of education!
Definitely enjoyed the deeper understanding of what you're doing. I can always glean something from watching you forge, but this was very educational and went into how the metal was going to behave at certain temperatures, rather than "Do it this way" Very interesting, and as always great content Alec!
This was great, more like this please. I love the normal format, but this is a video I would come back to.

Had a lovely time watching, I rather enjoy the explanations for the tasks that are second nature to a blacksmith. Yet often fly over the heads us we, the not blacksmithing people of the internet. Thank you.
BEST EPISODE IN THE NEW WORKSHOP!!!!!!!
I can't stress this enough, it was this kind of content that made me subscribe many months ago!
Nice video, while I find most of your stuff entertaining and marvel at what I can’t do yet/don’t have the equipment to do, it’s nice to see some instruction and to learn something. I even looked at the tools you used and made a note to make some. Thanks

Excellent episode, Alec!
I love how informative this episode was. I tend to skip through your older ones because I'm not learning as much.
Fantastic job of explaining everything. I've been watching your videos for awhile and know what you're doing, but I like the extra info. You can never stop learning.
Hey Love the tutorial style build. You should do one like this every week where you go into more detail than usual.
EXCELLENT! This is EXACTLY the kind of content I like (and need). As I am not (yet) a blacksmith, I thoroughly enjoyed the rather basic content of this segment. Although it might not be exciting enough for some, I much prefer these types of presentations, which teach me something while entertaining.

Steve
You sir have the Steve Irwin quality, enthusiasm, energy and personality that I never thought I'd see again in a human being. It is awesome to see
Good to see you matey looking after your gear, it's so important to look after our tools and gear.
I really missed the bit of extra teaching you used to put into your videos. But always amazing and never disappointed. Thank you
I enjoy the slower pace of these type videos. I also like it when you explain what you are doing.
God Bless my friend.
Glad to see you working out videos before going to the US!
Definitely a pleasant change of pace compared to what you've been putting out for a while now. Loved this. Also love everything else you've been putting out. Always happy when your latest video releases! Keep Hammering

I reckon this was the most informative Alec Steele video I ever saw. Loved it.
Probably my favorite episode yet.
alec this is the first time you have done any sort of teaching since you left the other shop i hope to see more of it as i have been one of your long time sub its been just over a year since i subscribed and man have you grown in numbers you must be 20 years old now come on tell us what month your birthday is
Love how you go into explaining exactly what you are doing and why.
Thank you so much Alec! I have been asking the past couple videos what you do to stop the rust from happening. I was going to go with WD-40 after a little research but I will try the vegetable oil next.
Yes. The good old days. You could do more of these. So watchable.
I love the videos about improving things in the shop or of things we see in future videos as much or maybe even more than the ones about new blades ^^
One of my favorite episodes! I have never ever forged anything and usually your videos make it look really hard. Your explanation in this video makes me want to start hitting hot metal with a hammer! Thanks man.
Love this teaching format. I learn something new every time and these simple projects lead to solid skill development.
Loved this video Alec , pretty awesome how you walked us through everything! 1 percent of your viewers are smiths, it's good to explain the process!
I really enjoyed and appreciated that you went over and explained the steps!
I have to say Alec that I thoroughly enjoy all of the Cinematic qualities you put into it. I love the hard work. However I love when you engage more this video definitely showed that.
Thanks! You told me a ton of things I was doing wrong, but that just makes me super exited to try again the right way!
Alec - Instructive and entertaining. More like this!. Thank you!
As an amateur blacksmith, I absolutely loved this. Thank you! Now I have a few new ideas to try. It was educational stuff like this that got me to sub back when you had 30k subs or so.
I really appreciate your ability to teach Alec! Great work Sir!
Hello Alec. the protection you give with the oil is what we call (seasonning). It's often used for iron pan before we use it. It create a non-stick surface. awesome video, I appreciate the return to the more instructive format. You truly are a great teacher and I enjoy learning as well as being entertained.
thanks
Excellent video, love the details throughout the forging process, more please!
Definitely keep a mix of these more "How to" videos in there. Thoroughly enjoyed watching that as a change. Something so simple satisfying to watch.
Awesome no frills instructional video. I enjoy these the best!
Awesome to see some more teaching style videos. Kinda brings me back to the old live show days. Ah good times.
Nice to see you still do videos where you do more basic stuft and explaning. Missed it next to all those videos, that looked like music clips. Do more of that!
