  • Welcome to LA everyone! Always a pleasure to come to california, for sure my favorite state in the US. This time we were assigned the "IRONMAN" approach into LAX, runway 24R. Im sure some folks enjoyed us flying right over the in 'n out burger joint just next to the runway on final. I myself love going there whenever I get the chance, rather rarely, but once a year.

    Excellent video, thanks, Dom. By the looks of that cockpit dash top one of the pilots must have gotten very hungry 😅😅

      Hahaha indeed cheers Ben! The dash has a fair „wear and tear“ look on it :) but the rest is still mint.

    Welcome back Dom. What date was this landing? I can't believe it rained that much. I live just a couple miles north of the 24R RW. Hope you have a grand time on your lay-over. Cheers.

      It's our infamous June Gloom. The faster you move, the more water you collect. Look at 14:50. The vid is sped up at least ×8, and there are just a few raindrops a second after they've stopped. Could've been any morning in June, really. :)

      @comicus01 Рік тому +1

      @@cykkm I like the overcast. I'm thinking this may have been a month or so ago. We haven't gotten much rain in the past month. Hardly any. Most of what we got was in the Jan to April time frame.
      He said they took off at 1pm locally in Switzerland. Most flights from Europe, if you take off at 1 pm, you will land at about 3 or 4 pm locally in LA. 9 hour time difference and he said 11.5 hour flight time.

    I live on the Isle of Skye off the coast of the north west Scottish highlands. We’ve had the most amazing, hot and dry spell for weeks now which is unheard of really! We have a water shortage too, which in my 45 years I’ve never known happen here. Anyway, I watch all the transatlantic flights cross over my home every day and I wish I could fly to and from the USA just so I could see the views from 6 miles up! I’ve missed out on the DC10/MD11s, 747-400s and I’m gutted……the newer aircraft are cleaner and more fuel efficient but the older ones definitely have more character. Thank you for posting your videos - been a fan for a long time now.

      Wow, thank you for your kind words and comment! My mum is from Newcastle, I know about the beauty of the land up there very well. Hope the rain will give you lads some relief soon, and that you can catch the big bird to the US one day. If you decide to fly with Swiss, 99% of our flight paths to the US leave the continent over Ireland/Schottland, unless weather/wind makes another route more economical. The 777 still has that „old school vibe“ if I can say it that way, I’m sure you know what I mean.
      Il sure you’ll enjoy the view from above even more! Have a great day and thank you again for the kind word.
      Cheers and my best regards, dominic

    First class video and sounds Dom!! Many thanks for sharing! Your description is spot on and the STAR info from Lufthansa Systems is really cool. Must get on to Mr. Boeing about improving the quality of the material on top of the glare shield!!! I've really enjoyed watching, many thanks once more and stay safe brother!

    As I watched this video again, I noticed the condition of the dashboard. It seems that pilots may have placed their hands on it while looking back for clearance when crossing runways? The dashboard appears to be brittle, possibly due to prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV rays, or a buildup of hand grime. Perhaps airlines should consider purchasing aftermarket fuzzy dashboard covers and adding a hula girl for some fun.😉

    Great video! I myself am a huge fan of the In-And-Out Burger LAX on Sepulveda Blvd.! I live in Southern C.A., specifically in San Bernardino which is approximately 60 miles east of the city of Los Angeles. But it takes me about 1 and a half hours to drive out to the In-And-Out or maybe more depending on the traffic on the way. It is always so exhilarating to go there and watch all of the incoming flights land across the street and also the planes taking off. I go there about 1 or 2 times a month being I live some distance away as mentioned. It's a great place to go planespotting and it doesn't cost a thing to do so! You do have to buy the food there unless you bring your own! Anyway, it's a very popular place for us plane watchers as you know. I will assume you yourself are an airline pilot. Do you fly for Swiss Airlines? I asked because of the 777 that was shown taking off in the beginning of the video. If so, that was sensational filming from the cockpit. Please keep them coming as I am enjoyed this video quite much. Safe flying to you!

    Rainy LA, something I have never seen on spot. The only rain while abroad was my sweat...Hope you find a better work/life balance. 777 sometimes fly right next door, to ATH or even GVA. But that's a whole different story😮

    Interesting that they brought you guys in to the northwest of LA like that. I don't think that's common for flights from Europe. Anything from anywhere roughly east of LA usually lines up for landing all the way out around San Bernardino. Flights from Asia routinely approach over Santa Monica, go over downtown LA, then a U turn to the right.
    I have taken off a couple of times locally when it was raining (clouds/overcast are way more common in the morning), but I have never landed in the rain at LAX or Long Beach. So that was a neat view to get. And this winter we got a lot more rain than usual. Nor do I consider our rain to be warm! Lol, I don't think it's possible for it to rain here and be above 65' F. We are NOT Florida or Hawaii where the rain barely affects the temperature.
    Some landmarks I noticed that other viewers may find interesting if you pay close attention. When breaking through the clouds, I did see a few of the downtown sky scrapers. Then the small rail yard east of downtown LA and I could just make out the County USC and USC University medical centers. The 10 freeway going off into the east was very visible. Then they turned to the crosswind over Whittier Narrows and Legg Lake. I could make out the 605 freeway while they were pointed to the south. As they headed west, I could make out the 110 right before they hit the rain, then SoFi Stadium which was barely visible with the rain, and they flew directly over the Forum. Off to the left just past the 405 was the new giant concrete parking structure that was built for the new consolidated rental car facility (CONRAC).
