I enjoy your video's, I have been a Southwest aircraft technician for almost 25 years. I work Structure support at the hangers in Dallas, I love my job. I enjoy watching aircraft video's, Keep up the great work and keep flying safely.
My family of 4 gave SWA some love today flying from KRDU to KFLL this morning. It was super easy because the plane slept overnight and was sitting ready for us to board. We ended up being 28 mins early. I'm down with that! PLUS, the Ops Agent was in a super great mood because she starts her vacation tomorrow.
..ahh..flying along here with Big Ern again..now with 23K loyal subscribers lining up.. in the back...heading for the head..and still waiting for the lav... priceless..thanks again for sharing...
I was on a SWA 737 MAX 8 last night delayed over an hour at BWI for a lavatory not working due to someone flushing a diaper that got jammed in the system. The BWI maintenance people were able to fix it, but not easily. They had to open the drain manually to insert a snake by hand. The poor guy assigned to that task got drenched in waste water, and 175 passengers and a crew of six did not get home until 1AM. That looks like a MAX in the video. Was wondering if it is a common problem and way they could not fix it in PHX. M
Working as an locomotive engineer, we would sometimes have locomotives with filthy toilets. The plan then (and it worked for us because we usually ran fairly slow) was to step out the door behind the engineer's seat and water the right of way. Just had to be careful where, not in town or by houses.
I have a small bladder and have to do 4+ hour survey flights occasionally for work, and I won't drink anything until I start getting a headache, then have a few sips otherwise I'll have to go in about an hour. Can't wait to get a lav soon!
Similar to the CIrrus, bring a Gatorade bottle along and everything will be fine. Bonus: Whichever pilot has to use the bottle in-flight ihas to buy drinks that night.
A video of the southwest facilities at Houston would be very interesting also any plans that Southwest has made you aware of concerning their expansion international flights etc.
Must have been on the 7th? I felt really bad for all the ops agents and crews that day. DEN was certainly some kind of a mess. We had around 70 pax on a MAX8 and it took an extra 90 minutes to figure out the zone boarding and get W&B ironed out. But being light we were a rocket ship over to OMA.
Nice as usual! Question for you Ern. Old standby instruments and new start levers? also 2 landing light switches. Seems like a newer NG with old stby inst. First time I see it! Cheers from Buenos Aires, Argentina!
2:35 “Might have some issues with our weight and balance”. I thought southwest has always had issues with that, or at least lying to the pilots about it.
Other great video Ern. Yes I really understand the lavs problem. You can't believe what people stuff in the lavs. In my career I've done the lavs alot but not anymore. Do you guys send any overnight or heavy maintenance to south of the border 🤔 Have a great 2022 and hope your family is doing great .
So they don't have an emergency toilet bottle for these aircraft? Not drinking fluids when flying at altitudes like 30,000 ft must be worse than on the ground?
is your plane capable of CAT III landings? if yes, does the autopilot automatically disconnect the yaw damper on final during auto land or do you have to manually disable it? thanks
Hey BigErn, since you are not flying passengers and only ferrying the plane are you still allowed not allowed to video tape the operations in the cockpit while it flight? Just curious I enjoy your videos.
Awesome content as always! I live near SJC and have always thought it was one of the most straightforward approaches within the US. What are your experiences there?
Feel your pain with managing hydration. Flying turboprop freighters, they rip the toilets out! you 737 drivers don’t know you’re born 😝. We carry travel johns (little bags with a substance in which absorbs the liquid and turns it to gel), something you never envisage doing when you spend all those £/$’s on getting your pilots licence. Short sectors are p*$$ easy, pardon the pun...but a long sector, you have to take it into consideration how long before you fly you drink and rationing the liquid during the flight...I’ve done a 6 hour empty sector before, you’ve got to exercise that newly acquired type rating on the travel John for those and drink all you can... oh and don’t eat anything to radical either 😐 Love the content, fly safe 👍
Yes, that hydration thing is so important. Flying a single engine piston for 3.5 hours one leg, I’ve learned the hard way too.
I’ve flown pipeline inspection flights in a 172 equipped with tip tanks and baggage tanks for 7 hours non stop…. That’s a struggle

Just found this channel and now I am binge watching every episode!!!

Flying without pax is very different! Taking the 787 over the Tasman tomorrow as a freighter….great fun! Just about got the meal cooking right
This just made me think, does anyone remember when Southwest use to have the rear facing club seating exit rows? I miss that
Nice video Ernie! I recommend you include some takeoff thrust calculations into your videos, but other than that this is amazing stuff.

Unfortunately those things happen and our tech ops folks are legends! The things they do to keep our birds in the air. Big gratitude👍🏽
I love the home gym set up
That’s a really nice hanger in Houston! 36 minutes in between flights doesn’t give a whole lot of time, and you made it! Thanks for the video. ✅🛫🏃🏽♂️
Hanger is something you use to hang up cloths. Hangar is something you use for an airplane ;)
@@smartycummins2500 Darn auto correct 😂🤣😂
I bet that plane climbed like a homesick angel. Nothing like flying a light airplane. Be safe and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Ron! It did, all the way to our hold down altitude of 5,000😁
@@FlyingwithBigErn this humor was all I needed for the day

Thank you for the always great content. Greetings from Mint Aviation Club, Riga, Latvia!
Sveiki!
Love to visit there one day!👍🏽
Thanks Ernie !
Maybe next time through Ern? I think a lot of us would like see a maintenance hanger tour.
I wanted so badly but had to get to the gate for our flight. I’ll get a tour on a future video. Working out the logistics currently👍🏽
I'm glad the TCAS system is working!! Great video!!!😁
My first visit to your channel and really enjoyed it. Will look forward to more for sure. Thanks!
Awesome, thank you!
Trying to catch up on some old stuff
My hometown airport SJC! Man has it changed since the 60s!
Gatorade bottle in a 737. Sweet 🤣

Good lesson on keeping hydrated..
Thank you for sharing. Fly safe always.
Love your videos sir! Seeing your life as a pilot is driving me hard to become one. Just have to get college done and over with.
Happy to hear that William. Keep up your max effort my friend👍🏽

Hey Dave! Im working on a future video on our Tech Ops (maintenance) side of the house. Might not be in Houston but I’ll get one out. Cheers!
Hopefully Santa brings some Depends this year for those non lav flights! LUV to see that new maintenance facility in Houston. Happy Holidays 🎄☃️🌵
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Another great video big Ern! Love seeing the different aspects of your pilot life on SWA.
Keep hydrated and keep flying safe!
Safe travels. Great UA-cam! Thank you.
Thank you!
@@FlyingwithBigErn you're welcome.
Never knew about the seal until today, very interesting
I was on a charter flight in the 80s with no lavs working.
That is one expensive trip to the plumber!
Great 👍🏾 video but what is a dead head flight?

Thanks Big Ern, Merry Christmas to you & your family & the staff at SouthWest
Merry Christmas Scotty👍🏽
You said you have a back-up for Weight and Balance, is it called a slide ruler? Just saying from my time 60 years ago, haha
What bag you have that is in the captains seat!
Merry Christmas
Same to you!
I USE THAT for x-plane 11 zibo 737ng
Wow those FMC buttons are abused!!! Thanks for the great video. :)
Nice as usual!

Can you make a video explaining how to use the audio panel? Thanks
That’s a great idea! I’ll add that in a video👍🏽
The ending felt like a on flight PA announcement 😂
2:35 “Might have some issues with our weight and balance”. I thought southwest has always had issues with that, or at least lying to the pilots about it.
Love this Channel! Merry Christmas Big Ern!
Love your content new follower.
Thanks and welcome!
great video! was this the day amazon servers were down? i’m guessing southwest uses amazon servers for a good part of there ops.
Committed to deliver Quality aircraft to our Customers on time with zero defects that’s what we do.. Safe travels ✈️
Have you ever done a delivery acceptance flight from Boeing? Would be cool to see what that's like. Love this channel, keep the videos coming!
No but I would love to!🤞🏽
Is it standard for FAA airlines to switch on the beacon and strobe for walkaround? If we would do that over here in Europe everybody would freak out
No. The only time everyone else does it, is when MX is checking the plane overnight. No idea why SW does it that way.
Ern, why the different uniforms? You guys didnt get each others "memo" ?
Ernie probably came from home for the flight and the captain may have just got off another flight and didn't want to change or have time to do so.
What was the maintenance? Was it putting in new seats in the cabin?

is it called lavatory because the person that coined the name had fiery hot dumps?
So they don't have an emergency toilet bottle for these aircraft? Not drinking fluids when flying at altitudes like 30,000 ft must be worse than on the ground?
On the next inop lav flight, get a bottle of soda, it will double serve you 😉
Yay!
I was hoping we could see a bump on takeoff and see how close an empty 737 can fly like a F-16. 🤣
I think you should bring some empty water battles🤣. Just wondering when do you topically put the landing gear in the off position
Trust me I thought of that😁. Gear goes into the off position when the flaps are up. Good question!👍🏽
I love your shirt
SWA### you're cleared to FL100 immediately after T/O

There is another UA-cam pilot that does record his flights when it’s operated under Part 91 with no passengers and permission from his airline.
Correct. I’d have to get permission from the company. I’m working on that however. 🤞🏽
Awesome content as always! I live near SJC and have always thought it was one of the most straightforward approaches within the US. What are your experiences there?
Hey Adam! I love going into SJC. You’re correct, very easy approach with a long final. The departure is great too with a quick right turn👌🏽

I don't believe he is allowed to record while the aircraft is in motion
No PAX go Vertical Capt.!!!!
No lav, that's not gonna"fly"well with the crew! LOL All bad joking aside, have you ever flown into MAF?
Ha so true! Yea I have. Although not too many times in the past 2 years. Cheers!
You speak portuguese ? if you do, i would like to see you recording a vídeo in my idiom
What’s the FMS app you had up?
Aerodata cFDP. And good luck getting your hands on it.
thank you movie from japan I make cockpit thank you
Long trip for a shitty problem! :-(
Btw, the video seemed to be jumpy today?
I have always wondered that, are pilots allowed to use the restroom during flights? Stay awesome Ern!
Yes, and they have a procedure involving a FA to ensure the safety of the cockpit while this is happening.
great! :D :D
Thank you! Cheers!
👍👍
Better finish the bottle
A lots bottom. Lol!!
when you have to fly a clogged toilet for your job :) just subbed love this content :)
