They were flying North, so the snow capped mountain (Volcano) in the distance, is Mt. Baker. Mount Rainier is to the South. Along with Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Mt. Jefferson, Three Sisters etc. If you ever fly into Seattle from the East, get a window seat on left side of the plane. If it's a clear day, you will see all the volcanos I mentioned.

This is a simplifications, but what basically happens is the polarizer on the display and the polarization of the sunglasses are not necessarily the same orientation. If they are opposite, you can't see anything. If they are the same, you can see normally. There is no "standard" for if a polarizer is vertical or horizontal. You can test this with a pair of sunglasses and any polarized LCD display (like in your car or a watch). If the display is black with sunglasses on, turn your head 90 degrees and you will be able to see the display just fine. The polarization of LCDs is necessary for their function, without them, you wouldn't see any clear image. It's not strictly for glare-reduction although they do do that a little.

As a Seattle area Boeing kid (my Dad was an engineer on 747, 767 when I was in school) I really appreciated the landmarks you noted. He worked at Seattle, but was mostly at the Everett plant when it was built. You caught our great floating bridges but missed noting the beautiful Olympic Mountains. Great channel content!
@@INZEAIR84 Seattle has been on my bucket list for years. I'm gonna go out there when I'm a little bit older. I still think that Boeing produce the best aircraft today. Airbus will always stay at #2 with their sidestick fbw technology
Really liked your editing, insertion of maps, bridges etc, airport layouts, and checklists. You showed what happened and where it happened during the process. It was very interesting/instructional for someone like me who has a peripheral interest in aviation mostly from an operational/systems/procedural point of view rather than an actual love of flying. It would only be more interesting if I understood French :). Thanks for all the effort in putting it together.
A rare, perfectly clear day in Seattle! Too bad it wasn't the typical departure to the south. Mt. Ranier would have been amazing! There is a short view of it at 6:45 just to the left, peeking above the trees. And a small glimpse of Mt. Baker at 12:17 as they head north. Tremendous video!
Actually a north departure is fairly common for morning time flights which this one seems to be based on the Sun light. I was hoping for a time of day but it appear to be morning. I'm not entirely sure around what time it switches to southbound departures. I went on vacation recently and it was also northbound departure in the morning
Hey that was very cool! I’m just a nerd for anything aviation who lives near Seattle and who’s daddy worked at Boeing. Dad helped design landing gear for the 777. I even got to watch them roll the first 777 off the line back in the 90s when I was a preteen. Very proud to call the PNW home. Super cool vid guys. Thanks for sharing!
It's been a hot minute since the last time I flew, but I used to take flights out of Seatac regularly to visit my partner in Phoenix and this is bringing back some stressful memories. I always find it interesting when flights take off to the north..so used to flights taking off to the south at Sea-Tac. Great video. Thanks for sharing..
The north take off seems to be normal during the summer months. I live about 4 miles north of I90 in Sammamish, during the summer sitting in the backyard, we see many planes heading east, probably passing to the north of mount Rainer. During the winter we can occasionally see the planes flying in to land from the north. We also occasionally have a plane flying north toward Paine field. Usually it’s a UPS plane.
I am enjoying this because having 2 pilots in the family I can understand more what they do. My husband was an office in the Merchant Marine and I read all I could find .He learn about my work in biological research .So we always had something to talk about.
What's amazing, is that you fly by Boeing Field. Where it all started for the Boeing Company, and then by the Boeing/Payne Field--where that 777 was likely built. Excellent, excellent video. Thank you!

@9:56: Boeing's Spare Parts Warehouse approaching in the lower right... I worked there for some time and parts are shipped out from there to go all over the world. And many years ago (like 50) we used to cut through there when it was just a wooded lot on the way to Junior High School... which was just 3/4 of a mile directly North of the end of the runway. The jets used to come directly over the school at about 250ft on landings - you could smell the jet fuel when the old 727's used to come over. The buildings are gone - but you can still see the remnants of the old school track track on Google Earth.
Two things in a really great video. 1. KPAE was where the jet being flown in this video was made. 2. Two things in a really great video.
1. KPAE was where the jet being flown in this video was made.

If you wear polarized sunglasses while looking at a polarized display, there is a very good chance the polarization of the glasses and the display will clash...and you'll see nothing on the screen.
