I remember being so worried one of the main cast from the previous game was going to die from the teaser. I should be relieved none of them were killed based on that teaser, but still... Poor Sawa-sensei. She was a great character, extremely heartbreaking.
Yeah. I at first didn't like her, but when she spilled her guts out to Yagami about the whole thing with Toshiro and broke down, I felt bad, because I saw her as a mostly innocent victim who was dealt a bad hand for trying to help a troubled student, but in the end, her efforts were fruitless. No wonder she felt so guilty. She tried to be the mother figure Toshiro needed, because his own dad spit in his face about his bullying and to goes to show how deep rooted the issue is, especially in Japan with many bullying victims resorting to suicide as a means of escape from their pain. Erica Lindbeck's performance definitely helped.
I actually had a feeling she would be the one to die in that cutscenes just from the trailers. A lot of people pre release though I’d be Mafuyu as a warning for Tak from going any deeper. But after a few trailers I could tell she helped out Tak and was some how connected to the murders, so I guessed she’d probably die as she became a liability. Also I feel Killing Mafuyu would cheap if she wasn’t a bigger focus in the game.
Mafuyu is teased so many times as the potential love interest, that i think one day they will for sure get together. If they killed her off, it would be so weird , and i agree so cheap. I had a feeling Sawa would die too, she was so guilty of something.

Maybe in the 3rd game, if this petty dispute goes on any longer between Takuya Kimura's agency and Ryu Ga Gotoku, I think if they do decide to continue with a new protagonist, they'll probably throw something like Yagami moves away to a quieter town and marries Mafuyu at some point, and they raise a family. Considering Saori still ships them.
Quite a few initially thought it'd be Mafuyu, me being one. But being such an integral part of the story as a supporting character and the relationship she holds with Yagami killing her off wouldn't have made any sense. Still, damn sad for Sawa-chan, even for the times she was uncooperative with Yagami and company with their investigation, it didn't warrant this fate. Poor girl.
Not sure how they did it, but they managed to make a death sadder then (Spoilers for the rest of Yakuza) Tachibana from Yakuza 0 and Rikiya from Yakuza 3. And i think its because of how sudden it is as opposed to theatrically slowed down, which is sad in its own right, but this is different, a more brutal and realistic death of someone as kind as those two.
I think it’s also because Sawa was mostly innocent. Both Tachibana & Rikiya put themselves in their enemies’ crosshairs (Tachibana in securing the Empty Lot by trying to find his sister & Rikiya trying to protect Kiryu & his kids) but Sawa was made a target solely because she knew Kuwana.
This was the hardest death I had to face since Reina from Kiwami. She didn't do anything to deserve this, she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't blame Tak for bringing her up all the time after this

Anyone can be strong and do anything in their imagination but we are looking at a 1vs6 and the victim is much smaller than them. In the real situation, you are unlikely to survive. Fighting back doesnt always solve the problem, especially against a group of assholes, trust me. Using weapons is going to make things worse for you and your reputation leading to even more isolation, a larger group of bullies and much more violence.

I know it's all part of the plot, but I'm disappointed in Yagami's decision making there. Guaranteeing Sawa's safety should've been his priority after his first fight with Akutsu. I assume he thought that since Akutsu and his men already broke into her place and attacked her, their business with her was done, therefore he could chase after Kuwana knowing that RK won't go back for her, but I think he was being naïve, which is a surprise given how perceptive he usually is with everything. Sure she said she was calling the cops, but she was never safe until they actually arrive, so I think Yagami should've waited for them to get there first. It's not to say RK wouldn't have came back for her at a later time, but she would've been safe for now at the very least.
not a real surprise since the trailer kinda foreshadowed everything (based on the clothing, it's either Sawa or Saori) still, before chapter 6, I felt she was a real nuisance due to her continuous non-cooperative attitude to Yagami so I probably get a lot of hate for saying this, but she kinda deserved that, the impact her death left was not even comparable to Emi's or Matsugane's
I liked how she was written. I think she was meant to be a person who was troubled and didnt end up doing the right thing and telling you the truth about the enemy. If she did, she would have saved herself. She ended up getting herself killed, and I agree. It is sad, but its more like she was written to be polarizing character. But Yagami really was affected because of his past.
I don't blame Kuwana for the death of Sawa. Its not his fault at all that there are criminals who kill. Kuwana only avenged against the bullies ill behaviour when the law would not do it. I am against Yagami on this
