Hands down, one of the most innovate mixers of all time and definitely the greatest mixer of this generation.
hell yeah man, it trips me out that this dude had NO experience with mixing real instruments and yet HE MADE THE MOST WELL MIXED ALBUM of the year, vocal and instrument wise. GENIUS!
He's great but there're some more that's very dope b. Drew Tucker, Dj Swivel , James Royo and etc.
ill check them out, thanks
No problem.
Agreed, he changed the way I think about music & mixing
if there's one dude i want to see on here it's flying lotus
yeah, him and Teebs
MikleShnikle that would be amazing I've always thought that as well. He's kind of vague and cryptic when asked about his process on other interviews I've heard...adds to the coolness I guess
100% yes
" Let It Run Ali "
I was about to say that :)
+Art by Atlas great minds
haha
" kick her out the studio Ali "
Omeeka Trinity Williams "Ali, you thirsty on Twitter!" 😂
Try and get Young Thug's audio engineer Alex Tumay if you guys can.
He's super dope
YES
Thank You Pensado's Place and "MixedByAli" 🙌🙌🙌🙌Great Episode🔥🔥🔥🔥.
To Pimp a Butterfly is the best album to come out in like over a decade (IMO, and of course only opinion). Every time I listen to that album I feel like I'm better off for having listened to it.
I phrased it that way exactly as well.
what I like about this is you would never expect a dude that looks like Mike and guy that looks like Ali to be friends, but its the fact they have both dedicated their lives to the same thing, its beautiful stuff, wouldnt you agree
Dude, Ali is the man behind so many hits. He mixed to Pimp a butterfly from my understanding, which is arguably one of the best albums to come out in the last 20 years... This dude is a legend and the fact that his advice essentially boils down to 'work hard' truly shows anyone can do this... Just gotta put in the work. Thanks for the super inspiring video guys
@Pensado's Place the irony of me watching this video right now is uncanny! Here I am sitting on the east coast one week after you guys had a meet in California, when 7 days ago I was right there! I could kick myself for not seeing this video sooner. It would've been an amazing opportunity. I hope everything went great on last Saturday.
Great episode! 16 years in the game and I still love audio like the day i fell in love with it. I felt Ali's story like it waa my own up here in Seattle. Y'all awesome! Much love!
love this show, inspired everytime .Thanx Dave and Herb
Wasn't expecting my question to make it lol!
How many of you guys do processing in mono? If so, how much and why? Over this last year I've noticed that I am hitting that mono button more frequently and am also enjoying the results.
I Reference in mono when I want to check if phasing is happening on let's say stereo BG's, Cymbals, synths etc. A good habit to get into is to start your mix in mono and mix your main elements first, that way if it's played on a mono PA system or any system which is a bit dodgy you won't loose elements, that's just my take on it though.
Another method is to turn your mono mode on and mix your kick n snares with just one speaker, I learnt that from Ali and it's a great method if you don't have fancy Avatones.
Fancy Avantones are a great investment !
And very hard to get in my country hehe.
I always EQ in mono, then for other things I will usually go back and forth, but for EQ it's always mono
So guys, When you mix in mono. How do you do Stereo Widening? DO you wait until the end and then go back and do panning and stereo widening?
Please walk me through the process, I'm struggling.
One of the best episodes for sure!
crazy man. ali humble as hell much respect to this guy
I would love to see Alex Tumay (Young Thug's engineer) on the show
Who the fuck is disliking videos like this?! Engineering gold here!
25! wow
This really makes me want to work even harder when making music. I can relate to MixedByAli by not having many people to look up to in my city especially when it comes to music. The most famous people I got from my city is George R.R. Martin and Zakk Wylde. I needed this inspiration Thank You :)
He's back!!
sosososo sickkkk
God I absolutely LOVE this show!
Such a great interview
ALI is an inspiration!!
Is there a podcast ?
Ali is amazing yo such a chill dude and just as he was Dre's protege I wish I could be his. But Imma continue to work and hopefully one day I'll earn his respect. I'll visit this comment later.
Creepy
Any success?
@@JustWander660 not yet but when I posted that I was in school for audio engineering. Fast forward it’s been a year for me engineering at the studio I work at.
Awesome, thank you
Fam the camera is too far away from y'all this time. Now imma feast listening
thank you for this.
Ali is a legend!
Would Love To Have Derek Ali As My Mentor
best engineer
No batters box? :(
Thought another episode was playing but it's still the Ali one....but then there's an interview with the co founder of Landr! Derek's interview was less than 30 mins long! The co founder of Landr should have his name mentioned in the description, he's a fan of the show you know he will look! Plus, he seems interesting enough to be worth having his own episode, his company is significant also! Really wish the interviews were longer!
My favorite mix from MixedByAli is definitely Kendrick Lamar's ADHD, go check that out if you haven't.
Bitch don't kill my vibe is a nice mix
***** Swimming pools as well, that reverb on the snare is sick, and it's one of the best modern mixes i've ever heard in a club, basically anything that goes through this guy's Pro Tools session haha
Kame Yeah fr, I think he mentioned that Dr. Dre helped him with that mix too.
Insane mix. He makes Kendrick’s vocals stand out from any other artist out period
yeeaah Ali brung it back! Huuman music!
Did he mix Habits and Contradictions?
MY FAV!
Great episode
A lot Better then the recent CLA Episode :)
yes yes
Amazing fucking GEMS
Dope episode
Saludos y gracias!!!!!
he look so fucking lit hahaha
"Ali you thirsty on twitter"
You guys need to get Teebs on here.
Can a person mix and master thier own work?
great interview.
super rad interview with MixedByAli aaaaand then anyone else kinda sketched out by the Landr spot sandwiched in there????????????
maybe i'm just scared of the future
maybe Landr is a company pouring loads of money into getting users for a service that will simultaneously improve production in some instances and damage the art in others...
daaaaaa i dunno!
Yep. Landr is pretty horrible, but they gotta put food on the table. You can tell they don't truly believe in it or use it and Ali is advised to just sort of smile and nod... intuition is key. They do not use LANDR.
I've heard it. Sounds crappy. Human ear cannot be replaced.
Dj Dahi interview plz
16:28 Section 80
24:00 Dre SSL
yayyyyyyy
at 41:10 he def predicted exactly how it ended up being...
And I was bout to go to sleep!!!

ANOTHER episode ruined by HERB...
Its PENSADO's PLACE not herbs... as the last episode its such a shame as the guess was great..
Please Herb kick back and allow it!!!
herb talks way too much these days. stop interrupting Dave, please!
exactly like the part at 22:02 i wanted to know exactly the question pensado was asking but herb added to it but it was not the same question which made him answer different than the question pensado asked i was pissed like broo come on
24:52 wow that guy needs to lay off the oxys...
them Polos Shirts getting Played out buddy..
Ernie G. 😹😂😆he got hundreds of them lol
Am I the only one who finds it so awkward how they refer to guests in the third person like they're not there?
Nope...
That and Herb's big hello at the beginning, after (even) Dave talks to the audience - it's real confusing...
Mamadas.
O.J.T. lol
and his comments are most of the time pretty nooby.
they look stoned
good for them
