Also rare. This would be excellent for those who want to know something about the history of Toronto and the TTC - the way it was. Probably the finest film about old Toronto.
heck in the mid 70s, we lived at warden/danforth, but if we wanted to go west of Victoria Park, we had to pay extra fare. St Clair was likely a municipal boundary at the time :) my dad was a driver from 1972 - 88
Parts of this take me back. As a kid I rode the ferry every summer to Center Island.. Always loved that trip. And just coincidently, I recently purchased a G scale Peter Witt car. I had a print shop make the Toronto decals for it. A big thanks for sharing this video. I learned a lot and really enjoyed it.
Enjoyed this. Distant memories brought back. A Toronto long gone in many ways, Music choices must have been by a fellow classical music lover. Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, and more.
@@RossMunro-mf6ezI used to be a GO bus driver (2004 - 2017 when I took a job in Florida). One of my fellow drivers, who had transferred over from GCL, told me he used to drive the Buffalo run and said he could prove it with his ticket punch. He punched a scrap piece of paper. And it was a spade.
I was born in Toronto. Grew up in Toronto. Lived most of my life in Toronto. Sadly, Toronto is now indistinguishable from any Democrat ShHole here in the United States.
most of the peopel in this video are dead besides maybe a couple kids if they were lucky to live this long.. you're looking at peopel who were once here but now gone forever.
@sonnyc3826, thanks for pointing that Captain Bringdown. My great uncle who was a pilot in the RCAF during WW2 had already been gone 3 years when this film came out. All those people in the film had the same amount of time on earth as you or I. Time is fleeting. We’re here for but a moment, then gone. Make the most of it.
@@marc_simmons no thats not entirely true..some dont live as long as others.. so... theres that..soem died young.. otehrs didnt different lifestyles, different choices.. all comes into effect the point i was saying is that youre pretty much looking at ghosts of peopel whow ere once ehre but now not if all their lives went according to Gods plan and lived their full lives until they died of old age most or these if nto all besides the kids ar eporbbaly mroe thna likely all dead, but as i said they all did different things.. there could be police officers in thsis video, soldiers, all kinds of things.. the point is the age of the video so regardless of what occupation they had this time in history has long passed and so have they..."bro"
Amazing video ! Thanks for finding and posting it ! Cheers, Peter
Great video

Such beautiful times! Elegant fashion, nice suits worn by streetcar operators, art deco transit vehicles etc.!! Amazing!
and war!
@@johnbland3642 We should've never participated in WW2, regardless of what was going on at the other side of the pond.
The smell of the non pollution controlled cars and buses must have been very pungent
@@alexsmith-ob3lu, we’d all be speaking German now were it not for the brave Canadian men & women who fought against the “axis of evil.”
@@marc_simmons Not true at all.
Whoever found in curated this should be congratulated a wonderful movie thank you thank you thank you
Just the fact that beyond St. Clair was considered to be the northern outskirts requiring an extra fare is wild!

@ 15:53 That's a mighty detailed application, Jim! Let's get started...
In the past 30-plus years, Mr. Anderson needn’t have even bothered
Made just 4 yrs. before I was born at Womens Collage Hospital this brings back a lot of memories .
My brother was born at women’s college hospital in 1985.
I was born there in 72
Good flashback
Thanks . This was fantastic
Boy those ancient Witt Street cars are really something
I love the march of the valkyries
I miss the grey coach buses!
I really miss the Gray coach buses as I was hired in 1988 as a furlough driver for Gray Coach later to be hired by the TTC.

Interesting that the PCC streetcar still look pretty modern
All of this occurred before Subways were even thought of
I was 1 year old in 1947😊
Where was this meant to be shown? I never saw this on TV as filler back in the 70’s or 80’s. Has anyone ever seen this prior to UA-cam?

NINE FARES!!!! kinda looks like fun jammin on that ol tram though
Yes I remember in the 60's another fare was paid going north on Dufferin st. at Briar hill just north of Eglington.
When the TTC was required by law to be self-sufficient.
Not an encampment seen anywhere…
They're not all churches there are synagogues as well
I laughed out loud when they said that the TTC was quick, convenient, safe and costs little to go that way...None of that is true anymore.
Those were the days.
Oh my God the orchestral track is so drab.
No bike lanes…
