It was especially interesting to me to see the difference in sharpness of the images on my 1080 monitor. Night and day difference. Even with the kit lens. Which admittedly is not particularly good, but still worth the affordable extra $100 with the body IMHO. I was surprised to see that the GoPro image was not much wider angle, though, but you hinted at a narrow mode IIRC. One thing I don't recall (but did not go back to check) is you discussing the respective costs of the 2 cameras. I also think that, even though obvious and you mentioned it indirectly, emphasizing the power of being able to switch lenses is important for many of us. Big fan of using my GoPro for vlogging. It’s just so versatile and easy to use - easily my most clutch camera. I have better cameras and primarily use them for talking head videos but that GoPro is just so easy and reliable. Loved the vid…hope you feel better soon.

If you're vlogging your face most of the time and only nearby surroundings, I think the GoPro is the obvious choice because of the stabilization and focus. It will give you good results without any fuss. But if you want a generally better quality image, better lowlight support and more options for shots beyond your face, the ZV-E10 is a good choice, as long as you're willing to put more work into your videos.
Well said. I have a Hero 9 that I truly enjoy as a vlogger with a media mod. BUT. You give up every customization, every bokah... I try to save it with an ev compensation a little lower by a stop or so, and that seems to help make some of the footage more salvageable. But. Man, low light... yuch. Give me any other camera other than my gopro... Well done as always Mark! Keep up the awesome content!

Nice packed out house. I was the only clean comic out of 10 comics. But it was a ton of fun and I got a few laughs with my story of a city boy moving to the country and trying being a ranch hand for a day. Didn't win, but I definitely didn't bomb so I was pleased. I recorded it and I'd be happy to share it with you via email if you want. Won't share it here cause I don't want to pull anyone away from your hard work!
Enjoyed as always! I actually preferred the GoPro (Harry) anywhere outside compared to the Sony with the kit lens in regular light. In the poor lighting Harry was OK initially (albeit colours were off a bit...more festive though), but that disappeared at 75% or so. Also thought Harry did Ok in studio and suspect that with some adjustments in might be OK compared to a kit lens only. For studio or low light agree Doug certainly best; but outdoors Harry did well. Half expected you to place him in the apple juice!
I think of gettinģ both of these as well. I will start with the Sony and maybe next year get the gopro . I have invested in sound and lighting already so I will need to pace my self . Start using the things i do have before gettinģ more and more. I would think you learn and gain a lot of experience a long the way. This is super helpful. We vlog our family Disney trips on the GoPro Hero 10 and absolutely love this camera. I've been thinking about changing to the Sony ZV-E10 and tbh, I don't think we will. Seems like a better choice for those who own a newer phone, would be to stick with that over the Go Pro unless you really need it for true action shots. GoPro was pretty disappointing in low light.
Are you going to use your 1000 cellphone for action shots? Cellphones are for talking and stationary shooting, to me the Go Pro black 10 is un matched outside, and even good in a proper in studio setting if you have the proper lighting.

Nice! To me the Go Pro is for action stuff’s, if just for vlogging I would rather usa an iPhone ! To me having a real camera is always a better choice, if you want to show something other than your face to the odiens a good lens can be a game changer! Imho
ZV-E10 is still better because of sensor size and interchangeable lenses. I had GoPro and ZV-E10 is so much better in terms of image. The stabilization of GoPro though... it is unbelievable.

Great video. This shows that if you're just starting out in your vlogging career that the GoPro would be an OK way to go. Then, after a few tooth fairy deposits, you can level up to the ZV-E10. Although there might be a few gaps in your smile. But, hey, it's worth it, yea?
Great video so glad I got the Sony zv-e10 over the gopro 10 besides I still have my gopro hero 7 black if I need another angle specially for build videos. I recorded some videos of my Christmas tree and let me tell you they came out so good just using the kit lenses and your luts
One more (go) pro for the gopro: it’s ½ the costs of a zv-e10. Even more when you start adding lenses. And also: it isn’t fair to add a mic to the sony and not the mediamod (which has a good mic) to the gopro (still way lower costs) and do post production on the sony and not for the gopro. Anyhow: for me the gopro is winner outside vlogging (and moving/sports/walking/ease of use/pocket camera) and the sony is better inside vlogging (tripod/room setup). Thx 🙏

Great content as always. I have both. I recently bought the sony zv10 and the sigma 16, partly because of your videos. As I basically don't know anything about cameras yet, could you help answer one questions for me? I am gonna be abroad soon and want to record in the street - both in daylight and more at nighttime. What aperture and ISO should I use for normal day outside vs after midnight (the place I want to record at night is a big area with bars and restaurants. There is obviously no daylight, but there is quite a lot of light around from the bars/restaurants in this area, so it is not dark is my point)
If you so new, or not understanding and afraid to loose memory moments, then just keep all settings on AUTO. Later with time will makes experiments Have a nice vacation !

Yes. if you drag 4K footage onto a 1080 timeline, you’ll be able to zoom in without losing quality. however, if uploading to UA-cam - you may get better results just zooming in on your 4K timeline and exporting in 4K. UA-cam Uploads 4K in a higher bit rate and higher quality. so you may find that even punching in on your 4K will look better than exporting in 1080. I’ll try to do a video on it.
not sure what video mode you were in with the gopro H10. they finally added some noise reduction in 4k/30, 1080/60. abe kislevitz channel would have details. but from what I've read online - not all the details. there are other modes that apparently have it. but it's a starting point.
Please do Osmo Pocket 3 vs zve10, also compare it using different lenses on zve-10, so that we could really see which one is better, I wanna know how much bokeh can zve10 provide compared to osmo pocket 3.
I am 61 of age and a vivid traveler and upload videos on You tube. I already have Nikkon D800 for photography. I also have Samsun s 22 ultra , which I have been using for videography, but it drains the battery , if I used very much. Of course , I have the power bank, which take s some time to charge up. I have been contemplating ZVE10 or GO PRO 11 .. Unable to decide. Tomrow , I am travelling to Vietnam , which has lot of landscape and people around. Can u guide me pls.
Get the GoPro 11. The stabilization will be so great and it’s so small and light. The ZV-E10 is amazing, but will have a big learning curve for video. The GoPro is even easier to use than your phone. just make sure you shoot your GoPro in “Linear” mode so it does not have the fisheye effect.
I was thinking to buy the Sony ZV e10 to use it for a wedding video purposes. What do you think? Do I need to worry about over heating because recording a wedding in the church will be at least 2 hours. Let me know, thanks
As long as the temperature is reasonable, it shouldn’t overheat if the screen is open and on a tripod (as long as the internal temp is set to high). but you’ll need to get and external battery pack because the battery only lasts about 90 mins. in fact, no mirrorless cameras I know can record 2 hours or more on a single battery. You may want to look into a camcorder if you’re just setting the camera up and taping the whole reception in a static shot. the Sony AX53 would be good for that.
Yeah - it's tough to show HLG or Log color graded footage next to standard footage - because the companies make it so contrasty and overexposed. Which makes a side-by-side a bad idea. People will always pick the bright and contrasty image when side-by-side. But that doesn't mean it looks good. Any well graded youtube vids or movies will look dull and flat compared to the over-sharped mush of the standard profiles, but people aren't faced with the comparison - unless it's a video like this one.
Does the ZV-10's 1080p image have a lot of crop with stabilization? I shot real estate with a Laowa 9mm, but I'm worried the crop would limit wide angles.
If you stabilize with catalyst browse, you won’t have to get a crop, but if you use the cameras, digital stabilization, you will see about a 40% crop - making the 9mm look more like a 13mm

You know what my main take away from this video was, is just how good that GH5 looks in comparison. Are you filming in 10bit? because the zv-e10 kinda did something weird with the colors of your skin, it looks pale/greenish looking a lot. Is that normal from the sony cameras and 8bit? Also have you done any videos talking about the GH5 and good lenses for beginners? I have been looking at those too. Still can't decide between a7c, zve10, or maybe a panasonic camera.
The GH5 is amazing and I was using 10-bit. But the ZV-E10 wasn't being represented too fairly because the kit lens is just not as good as the Sigma 16mm I was using on the GH5. You can get great images out of 8-bit cameras too - especially if you use HLG3 on the Sony's. I prefer the GH5 for video with it's features - but it's only good in the studio or a sit down interview because you have to manually focus everything. I use my panasonic app to connect to the camera and then set my focus on that when I'm in front of the camera. The GH5 is also not good in lowlight. BUT if you are in a good lighting, and you manually focus AND your subject isn't moving around - you simply cannot beat the GH5 at the price even in 2021. The GH5 and Sigma 16mm 1.4 is my favourite combo of all time. But the Sony has autofocus and that is a huge deal.

@@slyfox8900 Yeah - the lenses have their own color casts. It’s one of the reasons that expressive lenses are expensive. Luckily, there are some budget options that are great. My favourite use of UA-cam is finding those lenses. I think you’d be better off with the A7C. It is exactly what you’re looking for if you want a balanced camera. It’s great at everything for a reasonable price. The lenses that are great values are the 85mm F1.8 (portrait), The 35mm 1.8 (video), and the 50mm 1.8. (General). OR just get the Tamron 28-75 2.8 and be covered for everything.
That would be my suggestion for a general family shooter photo and video. A7C with the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. Best balance of quality and price that I can think of.
no one knows that but Sony. But a lot of people are waiting for an update to the APSC line. I will tell you that there will likely be no interchangeable lens camera cheaper than the ZV-E10
However, If you have to buy only 1 camera. GoPro wins even the gopro 8 or 9. You can ride a bike, can swin with it, mount it almost anywhere, carry a small pouch for gopros camera and chest mount or head mount for POV or DIY should. Still, gopro for me.

About HLG you use. Did you know that HLG works best with bt.2020 and HLG3 works best with rec709? Try it out you will be surprised. Also when shoot HLG overexpose at +0.7 or even +1.
if you use HLG3 with Rec.709 it will look better out of camera, but you will lose color information that way. So you will have less room for grading. I use a LeemingLUT for correction and BT.2020 is essential for that as well.
@@Ihavegumgum It not a mistake. BT.2020 has a wider color gamut than Rec.709, so if you use HLG3 with Rec.709 you are capturing less color information. You convert BT.2020 to Rec.709 in post to retain the color info.
Buy sony for image quality and that pretty much it. Buy gopro for better sound, better stabilization with good light, cheaper, multiple fields of view without changing lenses, waterproof.
Unfortunately I have no idea. This chip shortage is a massive problem. Some people think the shortage will end in the second half of the year - others say it won't be until 2023!!
The truth is this. No one camera fits all. As a Realtor, I use GoPro all the times when I am using the suction cup hookup on the side and hood of my car and I am doing neighbourhood video tours. Stabilization looks like from Cinematic videos. SMOOTH. AGAIN SMOOTH. Also, when I do house tours it is the best video at linear mode as opposed to wide which might get fisheye effect. With Sony ZV-E10; best is speaking in front of it with blurr. That's about it. Gives that rich effect. I would GoPro all day long for vlogs very simple to use. Easy to carry. Sony with lens looks uncomfortable.
Very true. I think the gopro is so discreet and so easy - two of the very reasons I bought it. The ZV-E10 is a real-deal camera - photos and videos. So if you’re doing productions - that’s the way to go. But out and about - I usually take the GoPro.
The GoPro will be much easier to use and you can use it in all kinds of weather. But the ZV-E10 will give you much better quality. If you never plan to learn anything about cameras, a smartphone or GoPro would be the way to go. If you plan to try and create more “cinematic” movies and professional pictures, then the ZV-E10.

Before Sony 6400 I used GoPro7. I was very happy when I sold gopro, It was very bad in low light, video looked to much digitally, screen often get frozen, was often glitches with battery, for example you fully charged it, but when you turn on in very important moment, show red empty. Also my gopro stopped recognise any original mic jack adapters. and most importantly, viewers of my channel didn't liked videos from gopro and I also watch my gopro travel trips very rarely. I hate GoPro!!!
Do you think it's better to go for go pro hero 11 OR a sony zv1 with a zhiyun crane m2s and a wide angle adapter for vlogging and family travel stuff? Currently, the two options are the same price on the 2nd hand - used market. 😅 I'll be rigging both with a variable nd, mic and color grade both to the best of my ability.

ZV-E10 is still better because of sensor size and interchangeable lenses. I had GoPro and ZV-E10 is so much better in terms of image. The stabilization of GoPro though... it is unbelievable.

Great video. This shows that if you're just starting out in your vlogging career that the GoPro would be an OK way to go. Then, after a few tooth fairy deposits, you can level up to the ZV-E10. Although there might be a few gaps in your smile. But, hey, it's worth it, yea?

One more (go) pro for the gopro: it’s ½ the costs of a zv-e10. Even more when you start adding lenses. And also: it isn’t fair to add a mic to the sony and not the mediamod (which has a good mic) to the gopro (still way lower costs) and do post production on the sony and not for the gopro. Anyhow: for me the gopro is winner outside vlogging (and moving/sports/walking/ease of use/pocket camera) and the sony is better inside vlogging (tripod/room setup). Thx 🙏

Great content as always. I have both. I recently bought the sony zv10 and the sigma 16, partly because of your videos. As I basically don't know anything about cameras yet, could you help answer one questions for me? I am gonna be abroad soon and want to record in the street - both in daylight and more at nighttime. What aperture and ISO should I use for normal day outside vs after midnight (the place I want to record at night is a big area with bars and restaurants. There is obviously no daylight, but there is quite a lot of light around from the bars/restaurants in this area, so it is not dark is my point)
If you so new, or not understanding and afraid to loose memory moments, then just keep all settings on AUTO.

I have a question regarding editing. If I shot in 4k but then put the clip in a 1080 timeline, will the footage convert into 1080? Or will they keep the quality of 4k? If they remain 4k, then I can zoom in without loosing quality. Right?
Yes. if you drag 4K footage onto a 1080 timeline, you’ll be able to zoom in without losing quality. however, if uploading to UA-cam - you may get better results just zooming in on your 4K timeline and exporting in 4K. UA-cam Uploads 4K in a higher bit rate and higher quality. so you may find that even punching in on your 4K will look better than exporting in 1080. I’ll try to do a video on it.

not sure what video mode you were in with the gopro H10. they finally added some noise reduction in 4k/30, 1080/60. abe kislevitz channel would have details. but from what I've read online - not all the details. there are other modes that apparently have it. but it's a starting point.

Please do Osmo Pocket 3 vs zve10, also compare it using different lenses on zve-10, so that we could really see which one is better, I wanna know how much bokeh can zve10 provide compared to osmo pocket 3.
I will look into it - but you’ll be able to get MUCH more bokeh on the zv-e10 with the right lens like a Sony 15mm 1.4
I am 61 of age and a vivid traveler and upload videos on You tube. I already have Nikkon D800 for photography. I also have Samsun s 22 ultra , which I have been using for videography, but it drains the battery , if I used very much. Of course , I have the power bank, which take s some time to charge up. I have been contemplating ZVE10 or GO PRO 11 .. Unable to decide. Tomrow , I am travelling to Vietnam , which has lot of landscape and people around. Can u guide me pls.
Get the GoPro 11. The stabilization will be so great and it’s so small and light. The ZV-E10 is amazing, but will have a big learning curve for video. The GoPro is even easier to use than your phone. just make sure you shoot your GoPro in “Linear” mode so it does not have the fisheye effect.
I was thinking to buy the Sony ZV e10 to use it for a wedding video purposes. What do you think? Do I need to worry about over heating because recording a wedding in the church will be at least 2 hours. Let me know, thanks
As long as the temperature is reasonable, it shouldn’t overheat if the screen is open and on a tripod (as long as the internal temp is set to high). but you’ll need to get and external battery pack because the battery only lasts about 90 mins. in fact, no mirrorless cameras I know can record 2 hours or more on a single battery. You may want to look into a camcorder if you’re just setting the camera up and taping the whole reception in a static shot. the Sony AX53 would be good for that.

Fab as usual. I know you like HLG but have to say it looks a bit under whelming (flat) compared to standard.
Yeah - it's tough to show HLG or Log color graded footage next to standard footage - because the companies make it so contrasty and overexposed. Which makes a side-by-side a bad idea. People will always pick the bright and contrasty image when side-by-side. But that doesn't mean it looks good. Any well graded youtube vids or movies will look dull and flat compared to the over-sharped mush of the standard profiles, but people aren't faced with the comparison - unless it's a video like this one.

3:19 I think the camera was focused on the shirt, which is very detailed, and not on your face. I imagine autofocus was disabled or not?
That was auto settings on the gopro - it focused where it wanted. Same with the ZV-E10 on that particular spot. All autofocus
Does the ZV-10's 1080p image have a lot of crop with stabilization? I shot real estate with a Laowa 9mm, but I'm worried the crop would limit wide angles.
If you stabilize with catalyst browse, you won’t have to get a crop, but if you use the cameras, digital stabilization, you will see about a 40% crop - making the 9mm look more like a 13mm
So I want to buy one for outdoor vlogging like traveling and see the beautiful nature, so which one should I buy?
The GoPro is probably better for travelling.
I'd like to highlight that I think the lowlight for the GoPro was the low light conditions. Lighten up!

You know what my main take away from this video was, is just how good that GH5 looks in comparison. Are you filming in 10bit? because the zv-e10 kinda did something weird with the colors of your skin, it looks pale/greenish looking a lot. Is that normal from the sony cameras and 8bit? Also have you done any videos talking about the GH5 and good lenses for beginners? I have been looking at those too. Still can't decide between a7c, zve10, or maybe a panasonic camera.
The GH5 is amazing and I was using 10-bit. But the ZV-E10 wasn't being represented too fairly because the kit lens is just not as good as the Sigma 16mm I was using on the GH5. You can get great images out of 8-bit cameras too - especially if you use HLG3 on the Sony's. I prefer the GH5 for video with it's features - but it's only good in the studio or a sit down interview because you have to manually focus everything. I use my panasonic app to connect to the camera and then set my focus on that when I'm in front of the camera. The GH5 is also not good in lowlight. BUT if you are in a good lighting, and you manually focus AND your subject isn't moving around - you simply cannot beat the GH5 at the price even in 2021. The GH5 and Sigma 16mm 1.4 is my favourite combo of all time. But the Sony has autofocus and that is a huge deal.

@@slyfox8900 Yeah - the lenses have their own color casts. It’s one of the reasons that expressive lenses are expensive. Luckily, there are some budget options that are great. My favourite use of UA-cam is finding those lenses. I think you’d be better off with the A7C. It is exactly what you’re looking for if you want a balanced camera. It’s great at everything for a reasonable price. The lenses that are great values are the 85mm F1.8 (portrait), The 35mm 1.8 (video), and the 50mm 1.8. (General). OR just get the Tamron 28-75 2.8 and be covered for everything.
That would be my suggestion for a general family shooter photo and video. A7C with the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. Best balance of quality and price that I can think of.

no one knows that but Sony. But a lot of people are waiting for an update to the APSC line. I will tell you that there will likely be no interchangeable lens camera cheaper than the ZV-E10
However, If you have to buy only 1 camera. GoPro wins even the gopro 8 or 9. You can ride a bike, can swin with it, mount it almost anywhere, carry a small pouch for gopros camera and chest mount or head mount for POV or DIY should. Still, gopro for me.
No doubt - if you’re not a couch potato like me - there is no doubt you have to go for the GoPro

About HLG you use. Did you know that HLG works best with bt.2020 and HLG3 works best with rec709? Try it out you will be surprised. Also when shoot HLG overexpose at +0.7 or even +1.
if you use HLG3 with Rec.709 it will look better out of camera, but you will lose color information that way. So you will have less room for grading. I use a LeemingLUT for correction and BT.2020 is essential for that as well.

@@Ihavegumgum It not a mistake. BT.2020 has a wider color gamut than Rec.709, so if you use HLG3 with Rec.709 you are capturing less color information. You convert BT.2020 to Rec.709 in post to retain the color info.

Unfortunately I have no idea. This chip shortage is a massive problem. Some people think the shortage will end in the second half of the year - others say it won't be until 2023!!
The truth is this. No one camera fits all. As a Realtor, I use GoPro all the times when I am using the suction cup hookup on the side and hood of my car and I am doing neighbourhood video tours. Stabilization looks like from Cinematic videos. SMOOTH. AGAIN SMOOTH. Also, when I do house tours it is the best video at linear mode as opposed to wide which might get fisheye effect. With Sony ZV-E10; best is speaking in front of it with blurr. That's about it. Gives that rich effect. I would GoPro all day long for vlogs very simple to use. Easy to carry. Sony with lens looks uncomfortable.
Very true. I think the gopro is so discreet and so easy - two of the very reasons I bought it. The ZV-E10 is a real-deal camera - photos and videos. So if you’re doing productions - that’s the way to go. But out and about - I usually take the GoPro.

The GoPro will be much easier to use and you can use it in all kinds of weather. But the ZV-E10 will give you much better quality. If you never plan to learn anything about cameras, a smartphone or GoPro would be the way to go. If you plan to try and create more “cinematic” movies and professional pictures, then the ZV-E10.

Why does GoPro 10 look better in clarity? Is it better
gopro has artificial sharpness, so on small screens sometimes it might look sharper. But overall, it’s quality is much worse.

Before Sony 6400 I used GoPro7. I was very happy when I sold gopro, It was very bad in low light, video looked to much digitally, screen often get frozen, was often glitches with battery, for example you fully charged it, but when you turn on in very important moment, show red empty. Also my gopro stopped recognise any original mic jack adapters. and most importantly, viewers of my channel didn't liked videos from gopro and I also watch my gopro travel trips very rarely. I hate GoPro!!!
