The is a theory that Donkey is one of the boys from Pleasure island in Pinocchio.
"Bad Reputation" by Joan Jet is from the 1980's not '00's.
This movie is hilarious
What did you watch this movie on btw? Streaming service? DVD?
You know what? DreamWorks sayd that the Russian Shrek dabble is the BEST that they ever heard. And i agree with them, i advice you to listen it
Shrek is, what I would like to call, a modern animated classic
naive girls like her would be shocked to watch most popular kids media..it comes from twisted places usually in the creators minds with agendas...otherwise they can not work on it....they usually have subversion adult humor and situations and will surprise you with how much death sex and hatred and trigger warning stuff is in it..and the realism based subtle ironic writing that goes into it...a movie like shrek has layers...people see something cute and think oh its probably made from a honest nice person from the heart but usually theres an agenda and reason it got made popular and allowed to be marketed...she would be wise to understand that moving forward...nothing in this world is that simple or what it seems...

Yo, Donkey is basically a D&D bard! Talks a lot, charismatic, sings like a champ, and lays a dragon!
Honestly yea LMAO!
All hail the patron saint of the Bardic orders!!
Huh. He really must have been a human before he was a Donkey, then
@@stephanniemorin Yeah, one of the Pleasure Island boys
People find Donkey is annoying, but I like him.
Just so you know that the fairy tale characters are public domain so anyone can make stories using them. Disney just owns the rights to the films they have made using those characters.
I do think many believe Disney owns it. Common mistake.
@@darkwolf1202 many people actually think that Disney owns everything
@@cyberdalek615 DISNEY thinks that disney owns everything
Yeah look at all the Goodtimes entertainment and Golden films movies.
Yeah! Is surprising when you tell people these stories are hundreds of years old
Fun fact: Some radios that were affiliated with Disney wouldn't allow ad time to promote Shrek. Thus, Disney vs. DreamWorks really started hard.
1 year later and it is still a fun fact. Thank you🙏🏿
There's a bigger explanation, actually:
@@videohistory722 Fun fact: fun facts are often stupidly dumbed down so that they seem like fun facts without people having to do more research into them, thus decreasing the fun of the fun fact.

@@ryanbond3677 they're friends!!
Another live action version of Peter Pan called Peter Pan and Wendy jude law playing Captain Hook Jim Gaffigan will play Mr Smee
Fun Fact: Shrek was supposed to originally have a stereotypical Canadian Accent, but then Mike Myers decided to do all the lines again in the Scottish Accent we are most accustomed to.
Makes A LOT of difference!
"WHY ARE YOU FOLLOWING ME, EYYY?" 🍁
Hahahahahaha!
I’m Canadian and Australian!
Shrek was also supposed to be voice by Chris Farley with a completely different look and voice than we're accustomed to now
@@SonOfMuta That was more of a sleep paralysis demon tbh
The reason Myers used a Scottish accent is because his mom read fairy tales in that accent when he was a kid. His parents were originally from Scotland.
Shrek is pure comedy the whole movie is to laugh.
true..they play the music to make fun of disney...like what kid is listening to eels lol
"You ate the princess!". 😂 My favorite line
"They judge me before they even know me."
It's sad how in these days people are, once again, forgetting this message.
@Sanctus Paulus 1962 Exactly
@Sanctus Paulus 1962 that sad
@@SanctusPaulus-ic5glWe would think that we're above that by now, nope.
Shrek and Donkey's friendship is underrated tbh...
just to point out a little side story on this movie that people didn't notice rly. On the scene where the old lady is trying to sell donkey there's the baby bear separated from his parents on two cages. Well, when all magical creatures are in shrek's swamp there's the dad calming down the baby bear while he cries, and the mom isn't there. WELL, in another scene when farquaad is on his bed looking at fionna on the magic mirror, there's a shot in a bear carpet on his room with a little pink bow on the bear's head.
This whole movie is just so daark, and not just the adult jokes, the fact that the main villain kills, enslaves, uses and tortures creatures is just SO dark
Farquaad’s a despicable human being. Murdering a mother while leaving a father to raise his child alone. This is why I don’t trust Farquaad with a wife. Who knows, maybe if she displeases him, he’ll lock her in the tower til the rest of her days.
Damn. Didn't notice that. Guess that's why Papa bear was dancing with snow white - he's single now.
@@haileymullican335 oh shi-
Technically, the fairytale icons here are not the Disney versions. They are based more on the original source materials that Disney made their own versions of. DreamWorks was just doing satire on the original non-Disney stuff.
So they did not get "legal rights" because they are not truly Disney properties, they are in the public domain. Disney did not actually create them. Like with how a few of them (like Snow White, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel, for example) are originally Grimm Fairytales, Pinocchio originally being a book by Carl Collodi, Peter Pan originally being a work by J. M. Barrie, and more.
Still, many of the books Disney adapted had some fairytale elements. Also, not all of Disney's work was public domain. We didn't see anything from Alice In Wonderland, for example.
@@strawberrysoulforever8336 Alice in Wonderland is a Lewis Caroll property, and there's plenty of non-Disney adaptations of it out there. I'm only correcting the people in this video blindly thinking that they are actually Disney creations/properties when they actually are not.
@@wesmcinerny4524 Was just noticing book characters that Disney also adapted come up. Admittedly many characters Disney didn't adapt come up too. But there are some clearly based on Disney designs. There's a shot of fairies that look like the ones from Sleeping Beauty for example. But my point is, something like Alice would have to be paid for.
Even after receiving hurtful words from Shrek, Donkey still came back convincing him that they should stay together because he's one of the few people who sees the worth of this misunderstood Ogre.
"Because that's what friends do, They forgive each other!"
-Donkey, 2001
The reason they could "get away with" all the references is because peater pan, the 7 dwarves, ext. Were all royalty free stories by the time Disney made their films.
Disney had their versions, but despite what they'd want you to think, Disney never owned the rights to their stories and characters (for the most part)
Exactly... I'm glad to see someone comment this. I've been watching some Shrek reactions recently and it is just bizzare to me that most of the reactors just call the references to "Disney characters" and don't recognize the ones that weren't made into Disney adaptations when all those characters were fairytales way before their disney movie version. Not sure if it's an American thing to only know those characters as Disney films rather than fairytale characters but it just wasn't a thing for me, as a child I always knew that all those were movies inspired by fairytales...
They existed before Disney.
Shrek opens the door to a fully established magical refugee camp. Donkey was sitting outside the whole time, and yet he didn't warn Shrek that a huge crowd of people were arriving or setting up camp.
Shrek is the most adventurous fairy tale parody ever made! Watching this movie again and again as I grew up was an enlightening experience😂😂
Dragon falling in love is a bigger twist than fiona being an ogre
8:15 the running theory is that Donkey was one of the boys from Pleasure Island that Pinocchio visited. He escaped or was sold to the old lady to do labour but he didnt transform all of the way, which is why he can still talk
The second movie is fangoddamntastic. The third movie is a bit of a let down unfortunately but the 4th one is a underrated finale that I would argue is better then many believe it to be
4's only issue is it takes itself a bit too seriously forgetting to put more of the focus on the comedy that 2 balanced so well with its story..4 is dramatic and feelsy for sure the most emotional shrek for me..1 is just funny..its not very deep its just what you see is what you get surface level humor...

Everything about this movie I remember it being so good when I was younger: the all-star voice cast, the pop songs, the pop culture references, the finest humorous dialogue from Shrek and Donkey, the chemistry between them, etc. And I can definitely understand better the dirty jokes behind every line! I'm glad you and Angelina are enjoying this timeless, nostalgic gem!!
I always just assumed that Donkey was owned by that old lady for his whole life until he escaped.
@ 24:09 love the switch up on the iconic "Babe" line from "that'll do pig, that'll do" to "that'll do donkey, that'll do". So good!!!
Can’t wait for the sequel. “I need a Hero”
Oh yesss
If you notice the mythical characters are based on their original counter parts Disney does not own them they own the version every one knows.
30:39 killed me with Shrek’s face 😂
So many adult jokes flew over my head as a kid. For instance: when Farquaad is looking at Fiona from the mirror he actually has bit of an erection under the blankets.
Lecherous, wouldn’t you say? The poor mirror’s thinking of being someplace else other than in the bedroom.
FOR REAL?! I NEVER NOTICED THAT
Must rewatch that scene, then immediately bleach my eyes
Shrek is one of the first animated films I remember watching as a kid! Like you guys, the adult humor flew over my head back then, and now it’s even funnier than I remember, too!
Shrek and the sequel are masterpieces no cap
Watching Shrek when you were a kid and again when you are an adult it's like 2 different movies solely based on perspective, it's crazy.
Really shows how good Shrek is. As a kid you enjoy you nice movie and when you grow up and watch it again you see all these adult jokes and enjoy it even more. It's a family movie. Think about when it first came out. Kids asking their parents to go see it in the cinema they love it and so do the adults because of all these jokes.
DO YOU KNOW THE MUFFIN MAN?!?
Nickocado Advocado.
4:45 How they got the legal rights to all of this: easy. It's based on fairy tales much older than Disney, and thankfully, Disney doesn't own the rights to this fairy tales (and rightfully so). So they can use them, as long as it's not the exact same version as their Disney counterparts ;)
Even the plot of this movie is obvious, there is some kind of cinemagic. Still cannot understand what makes so obvious story so memorable.
P.S. Shrek still the love & life))
“Still cannot understand what makes so obvious story so memorable “ …it’s the screenplay. The dialogues and the jokes in the script are excellent 👌🏾.
The expression on Shrek's face when he gets his picture taken in Duloc...:-D
28:10
The scene is even more 😏 when you know that dragons sleep on gold and gems.
Dragon didn’t take Donkey to just any room. 😉
I remember reading somewhere that the directors of the movie came to see the movie but in Latin Spanish, and they said they laughed more with that dubbing.
Yes spanish one HAD do much going on
The Spanish version of Shrek is superior in my opinion!! So funny and more dirty
Donkey is voiced by legendary Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez in the Spanish version. That's why the Spanish version is so hilarious. Derbez also voices Mushu from Mulan in the Spanish version, which is also hilarious.
I theorize that before meeting Shrek, Donkey lived with Old McDonald and when McDonald died the old woman (Mrs. McDonald in this theory) she'd had enough of Donkey and tried to sell him... Ee I ee I oh no 😂
THIS BRINGS CHILDHOOD MEMORIES BACK😄😁👏👏👍. CANT WAIT FOR YOU GUYS REACTING TO THE SECOND, THIRD AND FOURTH ONE. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT
Fun fact: the mama bear actually died and became Farquaad's rug. Totally not dark or anything...
Oh my god, I didn't notice that 😨
The tapestry behind Lord Farquaad's bed is inspired by a painting called " Venus' birth "
I hope Papa bear and Baby bear can find happiness again.
Fun fact, there is actually nothing funny about that fact. Rest in piece Mama bear😔
Me di cuenta viendo cómo 80 veces seguido cuando tenía 7 y mi infancia no fue la misma empeze a ver Chucky
36:14 That was an actual burp from Cameron Diaz. She had been drinking a soda while filming. Eddie Murphy then adlibbed the next line.
Muffin man reference = maybe the funniest joke in the movie. Saw this in the theater and roaring of laughter ensued
One intriguing aspect of Shrek is that his name basically means 'fright' in German, doesn't surprise me given his reputation among humans,oh and he's over 7 feet tall which makes him that much more intimidating 🤔
22:17: A bunch of fish died when Shrek first farted in the water, so I believe him.
*What animated movie should we check out next?!?*
I know you're gonna react to Ice Age at some point! All I wanna say is that please Tim, just react to all the five Ice Age movies or atleast the first three! The third one is my favourite!!
Yes ice age please 😂❤️ it's good movie
How about Rio, 🦜it’s a cute movie.
And also check out the second one, it’s also good.😊
@@thepowerfulwolfspirit.2581 True ❤️😉
Klaus. Maybe you want to rewatch Monsters Inc.?
Actually; Tim, Joan Jett's Bad Reputation is an 80s song. 1980 to be exact; it was her debut album.
It is, however, also a cover of a 70's song. A lot of her hits are covers (nothing wrong with that!).
i wanted to say the same thing glad someone else did!!!!😅😅😅😅
Dark fact u can see the mama bear dead in lord Farquaad castle that is why papa bear and baby bear are crying in shrek's swamp
Love this movie, love how"adult" now that I m older it seems! Love the music.
Believe it or not Tim but when Fiona sings to the bird my lil sis cries EVERY time on that par and of course I cry EVERY time when Shrek felt betrayed during the Hallelujah song
Edit: Btw Donkey is a freak while dreaming dirty it's crazy
"That'll do, Donkey. That'll do." is a reference to Babe, where after Babe wins the Sheepherding Contest, Arthur Hogget says "That'll do, pig. That'll do." to him right before the end of the movie.
Fun Fact: The dragon is named Elizabeth.
Fun Fact: Shrek is approximately 8 ft tall.
the funny thing is that this movie was a sort of revenge from Katzenberg (Dreamworks founder) to the former company he worked for, so *_Disney_* (he produced and helped a lot to the development of The Lion King - but as soon as he asked for an rise of his pay/wage they denied it and removed his name on the Lion King's credits): so, after saving money from their early cartoons (such as the Moses one and Joseph one + ANTZ) he could do _SHREK_ as a whole parody of Disney and their principles at the time (like, DuLoc is basically Disneyland).
The Lion King made many records but Shrek beat those record.
So, to beat a Katzenberg you need a Katzenberg!
Also at the end when Shrek says "he's not your true love" Shrek is actually right about that because Fiona had just met Lord Farquaad and Shrek got to know about Fiona after her rescue and in order for someone to ask out their crush they should know the person at least a few weeks and then tell them how you feel about that person...
Edit: I may not know you Tim or Angelina but I love you guys
34:55 I wonder if it was Fiona's plan to blow up the bird with her singing to get her eggs hahahaha
Always love when angie collab with tim! :D
The gingerbread man getting waterboarded with milk. LOL
"That'll do, donkey...that'll do" a "Babe" reference.
The thing is back in this time, when they made great cinema movies like this, they were great because they were both meant for kids and adults, with adult jokes. They purposely that way, so that way anybody can enjoy them at any age
OHHH! Shrek is another of the best iconic animated movie of all time, even it's my favorite DreamWorks movie too also I would put Shrek with my other favorite movies like Toy Story and Ice Age as well!
*Gold Classic*
If we consider the history of the creation of the cartoon, it is not surprising that there are so many adult jokes. And although I didn't understand many things as a child, every year when watching Shrek, I found more and more interesting things that makes this cartoon even more gorgeous!)
Fiona: You're... An Ogre..
Shrek: I suppose you were expecting Prince Charming?
Fiona: Well Yes..
Me: He's taking the long route
This has got Classic Songs that gonna ROCK YOUR WORLD'S!😎
Man, I love your collabs! I had a lot of fun watching along! :)
They said a theory that Donkey is from Pinocchio that scene when Donkey says “I don’t feel my toes. I don’t have any toes” that he’s definitely a human so that’s why he’s trying to be a human
Cool reaction. Brings back so many memories. This should have been a drinking game reaction. Every time you hear a quote you remember, you have to take a drink
Donkey is the the inspiration behind all Bards in DnD trying to seduce a dragon.
It just dawned on me that Shrek unintentionally destroyed the kingdom of DuLoc. Sure, Farquaad was an asshole, but his people seemed to have been doing alright. Without any form of leader ship the kingdom most likely fell to ruin. Guessing he had no family or some sort of counsel to take over. A few years ago in a Halloween special it reveals that's the kingdom is nothing but a ghost town
Love, love, LOVE this movie!
Great collab reaction. Definitely looking forward to the sequel. 😊
Ngl I now love this movie so much more than when I was a kid mostly because I get all the very subtle jokes 🤣
i remember i watched this movie in spanish and when Donkey calls for the dragoness he says something on the lines of "Have you heard of a donkey's "qualities"?"

Answering your question: Shrek got to have many Disney related characters because one of the main owners of Dreamworks, Jeffrey Katzenberg, used to work at Walt Disney Studios during the 1990s and he worked at many successes until he got fired unfairly and so he made his own studio with the help of some friends (such as Steven Spielberg!) so because of that he owned enough of those copyrights to fulfill Shrek with references to retaliate joking about Disney and it’s standards, and look at that Shrek managed to win the very first Best Animation Movie Oscar instead of Disney (with Pixar’s Monsters Inc)!
18:59 "Early 2000s music?" Haha, that song is Joan Jett's _Bad Reputation_ from _1980!_

I noticed that a ton of people have compared the opening scene of this film to the opening of Godzilla vs Kong since the title character does a morning routine starting with them stretching and scratching their butt.
