- Transplanting Microgreens into Hydroponic Grow Box with Air Stone
Microgreens are good eating but you can also take a few, plant them out in a hydroponic grow box and have you a harvest of some of the best baby greens around. Fresh as can be. We are also using a small air pump to provide aeration for the roots.

As a scientist and former professor, I am thoroughly impressed by this lesson series (and your videos in general). You are an excellent teacher. Some people just have a knack for knowing what’s important to convey.
Thank you so much, I try! Have a great week!
Keep on Growin'
This is an awesome series. This should be part of every kids education, so they understand that food is something that people can grow, not just something you buy at the market.
Thanks Michael. We are working on it a little at a time. I think trying to simplify everything and make it fun gets them interested and they can always advance later. It is empowering to know you can somewhat take care of yourself as far as food goes.
I wish I had known about this 70 years ago when my parents had the most amazing organic garden. And later, I also had an amazing garden when I lived in a valley next to a river where you could dig all day and never find a rock. I would like to do this kind of gardening, or have a greenhouse, but I am very limited due to age. I might try micro greens. Thank you.
I hosted afternoon tea and grew some radish microgreens to put on my cucumber sandwiches! Planted them just like this took a week and I had a very fancy flavorful garnish for my tea sandwiches! I will be using this for my baby shower afternoon tea for sure!!! Thanks for the idea!
Awesome! I love hearing this!
Now that is one good way to spend a cold icy foggy morning Mike. Happy Gardening! -Bob...
Thanks Bob, have an awesome day!
thanks for KISS (keeping it simple for the simpletons like me!)
most enjoyable to watch.
First, I'm thrilled to find your videos, which are teaching kids (and adults) the value of growing their own food!
Secondly, I'm growing peppers, strawberries, lettuces, spinaches, collard greens & tomatoes using the Kratkey Hydroponics method.
I plan to expand into microgreens as soon as the seeds are delivered.
Perhaps you can create a video using that method, if you haven't yet. (I just stumped upon your channel.)
Great work! Awesome content & delivery!
I plan to share this channel with my 11 y/o grandson. He will live it!
Thanks again for your time you've invested & work!
Awesome! I love when people share it with children, keeps the knowledge going. I am here if you have questions, keep up the great work.
awesome. How are the strawberries doing?
I didn’t realize what the check Val e was for! I haven’t used one! You learn something new every day!
Lol, years ago I didn't use one either.😎🖒🌱
Thanks Mike!
Always have the most amazing info Mr. Mike. Grow on brother!
Hope you are doing well CB. Are you ready for Spring? Hope this is an awesome season for you and Rene!
Still lots of winter to get through with trying to get Greenhouse 3 built. I will be ready come spring my friend. Stay safe and warm down there. Was a balmy 24 degrees here this morning.
Thanks for sharing Mike ❤❤❤
Could you list the seeds you grow and what you eat, and the priorities
dude i was on the right track haha this is so helpful!!!!!
Great video. Love that you are teaching the younger generation. I use these methods to grow micro greens for my chickens. I have a special grow box for them and just throw our seeds. They love them. I winter I grow in greenhouse so they have a source of greens all winter long
That's awesome! We used to have chickens too. Great job!!
Hey look squirrel heheh luv the intro... teaching the next generation to feed themselves 😁👍🏼
Lol, he is everywhere.😎🖒
We are planning to use fodder for our chickens and rabbits, we're also going with vertical and hydroponics. We are in the high desert of Oregon and very limited on water. This information is what I was missing, Thank you & GOD BLESS
Awesome, I am glad it helped.
Thanks Mike VanDuzee. Thanks Friend. We Call Each Other Brothers/ Sisters (Bonndhu/Bonndhujii (Friend)In India/Bangla. Learn A Lot From You Friend. Thanks A Lot. Thanks For Video Share. Keep On Growin. Mike VanDuzee. Take Care.
Thank you too! Take care and Keep on Growin'
Mike
omg when did you start selling? going to buy
Thankyou for the video sir, I always wanted to know more about hydroponics. Only have question, in transplanting is the whole root system submerged in the nutrient solution or just a part of it?
All of the root at first, not the stem. As the level drops, leave an air gap for the roots to absorb oxygen.
Hello and thank you! I am about to begin the hydroponics journey with your assistance. I do have a couple of questions first what is an air stone, it's purpose and where to purchase and second is your average air pump (electric, used for inflation) a suitable pump for hydroponics. Thanks much from my family and I.
Thank you Sheryl. The air pump and air stone are just from any store that sells pet supplies, It is the one for an aquarium. It introduces extra oxygen for the roots. I only use it on a few of my containers. Most so not have it. Here is a cheap one I use from Amazon: amzn.to/3oWugy3
Thank you for your video! Do you know what the number is on the bottom of the container? I will what to make sure I get one that is food safe. Thank you again for all the information that you share.
I get them from Webstarant.com
@@KeepOnGrowin Thank you, I will look into it.
I'm trying to set up my own little system to experiment with. How often is the air stone/ pump running? Do you keep it going 24/7?
I have it on a timer and let it stop about 8hrs at night.
What fertilizer can put in the water and how mucfertizer in one gallon of water , thanks for teaching us
ua-cam.com/video/SaN6Dlf2hCg/v-deo.html
Is that air pump is really necessary or it's an option? Really need to use it or without it will be okay?
Better with it but I have grown for about 8 years with out any aeration.
Where do you get those cups you put the plants in ?
amzn.to/44c5vkq
After cut them off, will they regrow? Thank You
Some plants like basil and mint.
I live in an apartment so I need to grow indoors ...I am using a 20 gallon container and I want to grow a Roma Tomato plant and a Bell Pepper plant ...can it be done in this size of a container? Also can I use pool noodles to hold the tomato and pepper plants in place ? How big should I let the plants get to transplant them ? Sorry I have so many questions !!! Thanks for the videos and all you do !!!🥰
Yes, I have done it in a 5 gallon container. Get them into the solution as soon as possible.
Thank you I am going to try it !!!@@KeepOnGrowin
Do you have to change the water? If not, how often do you add nutrients?
Just keep between half and three quarters full.
How long can I keep my plants growing in a takeout container with a napkin? can I leave them there their whole life span? or do I have to transplant them?
gotta transplant
You are an excellent teacher👌 but I am new gardener and want to try. I am a senior live in an apartment so have a small balcony. I don't want to spend too much for soil etc please tell me if this is cost effective 🙏
Yes, but buy the nutrients in bulk, not a tiny portion. There is a starter kit for around $25 on Amazon. Let me know if you need a link.
Yes please, for link
I just discovered your channel, it’s June 18, 2023. The answer might be buried in your videos somewhere, but having a short attention span, I hope to get an answer without sifting through everything. When you trim the micro greens is that a one-time thing or do they continue to grow?
Most of the time, it's a one time thing.
What kind of micro green was that you tried that had a wasabi flavors? Love your videos!
Thank you! They were mustard greens.
Thank you we will have to grow some to try out. Going to grow some oatgrass and other greens to give our chickens something green to eat during the cold and snowy winter.
Can you grow the micro greens using kratky after transplanting
Yes, that's like 90% of what I do!
Love this ! Is this just for microgreens or all seedling plants ?! And what nutrients do you put in the water ?? Thanks ; ) 🙏🎚🙏🎚
HOw much nutrient do you use for a container that size?
ua-cam.com/video/SaN6Dlf2hCg/v-deo.html
Question Mike, are these not considered leggy seedlings?
Yes, I grow them that way. I can move them quickly into a pool noodle. Long enough for the roots to hang in the nutrient solution. The long stem is big enough for a 1" thick pool noodle.
I was wondering about that...good idea@@KeepOnGrowin
Don't you get flies in your pak choy? they are attacking my baby ones 🤯. Do you use any sort of pesticides?
I use no pesticides. I smear vaseline on a bright yellow bag or piece of foam, hang it near the plants and shake the plants. They usually fly right towards the yellow .
good idea@@KeepOnGrowin
what nutrient solution
ua-cam.com/video/SaN6Dlf2hCg/v-deo.html
I was told that airstone are not suitable for microgreen because of biomatter build up. I wanted some real expert advice. How does airstone hold up with biomatter?
I am not an expert and never strive to be.
@@KeepOnGrowin I just wanted your experience with working with airstones and microgreen :)
@@xevenau Microgreens don't really need it, if you want them bigger like baby greens, it helps.
Looking for link to buy grow box
I stopped making them a few months ago. Watch my next video on Friday, I will show people where to get some.
