Another very relevant thing to say is that drug prohibition keeps feeding the cartels with their largest source of income. They didn't get so powerful just because Mexico is poor.

Brave and well-done clip - kudos to both of you for addressing this subject. It bears emphasizing that the first rule of being a tourist or expat in almost any Latin American country is to "stay in your lane". That not only means not stepping on the turf of or having any dealings with cartels or drug dealers, but also not participating in political protests no matter how much you may support what they are protesting about (expats are expressly prohibited from doing so here in Colombia), and not wandering around in areas or barrios where your presence may be seen as unusual or unwelcome without the benefit of a local guide. Always remember that even if you live there full-time with residency or a long-term visa, you are not in your home country, and let that basic fact guide your actions.
Well said. Some of these issues are local and rarely, if only by mistake, do they apply to "tourist." With that said, those issues should be left to locals. Tourist should enjoy their time in Mexico, stay safe, stay away from ill behavior and you'll have a great time.
Thank you for the point about political protests. We didn’t mention that and it doesn’t seem to be known by many foreigners. I agree with your other statement also, we (tourists, foreigners) need to stay in our lanes; and I’d add we need to be knowledgeable about what that means.
If ever I venture into the third world, I shall abide by your advice.
You will run into drug dealers if you go out at bars late. Just be respectful and it is fine. If you wanna buy its best you befriend some other people that are not dealers, but can get them for you.
Cocaine is very common in Mexico and in certain bars and clubs it is used completely openly.
In terms of cannabis there is cannabis clubs and such. Cannabis is pretty much legal in Mexico.
So what about visiting a pharmacy? Or do I have to see a Dr to get a prescription of things I might want to take while on vacation in Mexico can anyone answer this for me? I would really appreciate it
I spent a week in Acapulco, I mainly stayed in the touristy areas but felt completely safe. There are so many wealthy mexicans who go there for vacation, I think if you mind your own business there you are fine.

I almost got killed twice as an innocent bystander just trying to live in peace with my Wife in Mexico on the border because they wouldn't let her come to America without a Visa that takes lots of paperwork and forever to come, so we chose to live on the border. She's from the Yucatan and Im from New Orleans, so we didnt know anything about violence on the border until one night they set it off, and I literally shit myself because living in New Orleans I've seen some stuff, but living on that Border was "New Orleans 10.0" It was a whole war going on and we were trapped right in the middle of it. We lived there for almost a year without any gunshots or fear of something happening until all hell broke loose. So I advise all of my peope who have to visit the border to do what you have to do and get the hell on out of there. Don't go out at night and Mind your business and don't come with your aggressive Anerican attitude because you will get hour issue out there. Be aware of your surroundings and don't go out at night. Also be there with someone who is fluent with the language. Mexico is a very beautiful place so respect it, be kind to the people and they will keep you safe 💯

This is very enlightening. Thank you. I live in Mexico part of the year. There are definitely some advantages to being old, not rich, not particularly attractive, not a busy-body, but friendly. So far I follow the same cautions I would in New York City, Atlanta and Oakland...so far so good.

I grew up in and around Logan Heights and Lincoln Heights San Diego, I'm mixed having grown up with my Mexican side of the family. Lots of Narcos where I grew up, my cousins grandma was a boss, everyone talked about it. My tias dated and married narcos, I have many extended family members (I'm no contact) that are narcos themselves. They have a huge reach. I moved away to what is supposed to be basically pleasantville, Temecula, but I have certainly noticed them here too. I can sniff 'em out because I grew up around them. You gotta watch out for hot spots in the US too. The world is a mixed bag

My friend had a business there and was not paying who she needed to pay *hint hint and was forced to stop doing her business. I live right door to Mexico you have to use your good senses, speak the language, mind your business, and know the law of the land. You also have to be prepared to pay the cops, another friend had to pay police officers. Mexico is very corrupt. It's also paradise. lol

This was excellent. I read the cartels are so well equipped they rival the national security forces. Way to tell National guards from cartel (I'm referring to foot soldiers at checkpoints) is to look at the shoes bc National guard are issued regulation boots whereas cartel arent. Not sure if that's an urban legend or not, but it speaks to how well the cartel is equipped. And yes, whenever im in Mexico, i mind my own business. And I make sure I'm off the road and home at night ✌🏻

Great video guys would you talk about the cartel in Mexico which we all know very well but one thing most people don’t realize is there moving north they have been doing this for quite a while and moving into small unassuming little towns and making drugs the latest is a town in Washington called Port Orchard it has literally been taken over by the new Jin cartel and the police can’t stop it with a very small police force if it wasn’t for the desire of people to consume drugs in the United States a major part of their income would be cut off so I guess you can say we have the United States to blame

Yeah, it's good to have your wits about you at all times, especially in the larger cities, and to fine tune your intuition. We noticed a lot of cartel presence around the Mazatlan area and also near Patzcuaro in Michoacan. While we see evidence of cartel/gang bangers almost everywhere we go we decided to give Guerrero a wide berth on our travels and skip that state entirely.
Wise decision! Most people don't really open their eyes to see what in front of them while they travel. It's a necessity in these times.
@@TheYarbros I grew up in San Diego and raised my son there until he was in jr. high and I decided to leave. There were many dangerous gangs even in the nice neighborhoods and I just didn't feel it was safe to raise a teen son there. But lots of the gang behavior and connections were so similar to cartel and some were indeed affiliated with Mexican cartels.
So even in the upper income areas it was southern California and we were quite aware of the signs of organized activities...and how the true gangbangers (not just wannabes) behaved.
Very similar in Mexico...and if you see a lot of expensive SUVs with great sound systems and no license plates and a bunch of highly muscled, tattooed guys roll out....well, there you go...gangbangers affiliated with various cartels.
BTW, La Familia Michoacana is one of the most violent cartels in Mexico. We stayed in Patzcuaro for 5 months and heard first hand stories from expats who owned farmland that the cartels just happened to want and how that played out. There were shootings at the town square while we were there and a few miles away literally a 20 minute "battle" with semi-automatic weapons between two factions took place.

Hello guys..Im a North Carolina brother living in Uganda for the last three years. Now that my passport is running out of pages I will be flying back to the US to get a new thicker book and taking care of some VA business. I plan to move to Mexico from there. I believe that Uganda with its challenges has thuroughly prepared me for Mexico.
Cool! I had to renew my passport while we were in Guadalajara and it turned out being much faster than the states. I don't know if they have caught up yet but they were behind for long time. Enjoy your travels.

I renewed at the Consulate's office and I had it in 2 weeks. It was put into the system as an emergency express like all international passport renewals are. It worked out great! It took my daughter 2 months to get hers done in the states.@@Silverbackugx

It was found to be an inside job with help from the high end hotel employees where the couple stayed.

I’m bored and raised n south San Diego and lived in loreto for years before. Mexicans operate on respect and minding your own business it’s hard for Americans to do that that’s not our culture I operate on both sides but it’s f you do that you will be fine apologies goes a long ways in Mexico and with Mexican people, if you ever accidentally offend or touch the wrong person and honest, sincere apology, will get you right out of any trouble. Mexicans are good like that.

I live in Mexico and the notion that the Sinaloa areas are one of the most dangerous is not correct.
It has a lot of activity, but the cartels there do not bother innocents and there is no crossfire since they have complete control over the state. Same with Durango.
Culiacán is safe to go to
Not the most violent. The biggest.
I lived in Mazatlan back in 2010. Culiacan was very dangerous then, but is likely safe to be now
