  • I've been on Accutane for mild but persistent acne for 4 months. Here's an update on my progress (including pictures!) plus side effects I've been dealing with so far.

Thank you for sharing this. My skin has gotten so bad on T and I have so little experience treating acne that it didn't occur to me to really try anything other than stuff you can buy at the grocery story lol. I'm seeing my doctor today so I'll definitely ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

Hi Celeste! I’m in the EXACT same boat as you. I have mild to moderate persistent acne and NOTHING has worked for me. I’m finally starting accutane tomorrow, at the same dose you started at, and then move up to 60 next month. I’m really worried about dryness and someone told me besides the obvious moisturizers that I should be chugging gallons of water all day. Did you find that you needed to drink tons of water in order to not dry out too much? I’m worried just like you were that my face will basically crack and I’ll be in pain. Any other advice you can give?
    Thanks!

I definitely needed to drink a lot of water, and still do. I think I've gotten used to it by now though as it no longer seems like such a crazy amount. Overall though my dryness was not as bad as I expected. My face was very dry and flaky on and off for a couple months, but for the most part it wasn't painful or anything. Definitely get some good lip balm too!
