I think Leigh Bardugo is going to expand the world with Nina because of the vagueness with her power that we got and she had a bit more of an open ending.
i thought matthias' death made the most sense tbh. it made me think about inej's comment about everyone having a shadow-- "the suli believe that when we do wrong, we give life to out shadows. every sin makes the shadow stronger, until eventually the shadow is stronger than you." if you think about it, inej's shadow was dunyasha, pekka rollins' shadow was kaz and to me, the young druskelle was matthias' shadow. you have someone who was a mirror image of matthias before matthias changed and it was kind of symbolic to me. and i love how he asked nina to save the other brainwashed druskelle. also about kaz, i rlly hated how he treated jesper like that's one thing that'll always makes me feel bitter.
He didn't treat him well in the first book and in the first half of the second book. But their fight and Kaz calling Jasper Jodie by accident, and then saying it was someone he trusted. I think that was the point when Kaz admitted to his friendship to Jasper and forgiving him about Inej's injury.
I think matthias's death made the most sense also although it was so sad bc he changed so much :( I feel like it would be unrealistic for him and Nina to have a long, happy life together bc the people of Ravca wouldn't trust him and his country and the Druskelle would have hunted him down eventually if he didn't die when he did. at least they were both changed and saw the world differently by their short time together :/ also when kaz called jesper jordie I realized he might have always subconsciously saw jesper as his brother and didn't realize until that moment that he was angry with his brother for what happened. I hope we see a book or series of Nina trying to save some of the brainwashed Druskelle although I feel like her original power is easier for them to accept (Matthias Saw how she could use it to keep someone alive) than her new death-related power ? 👀 we shall see
I loved Matthias's character arc so much like when he started teaching himself to say Grisha's powers were beautiful rather than monstrous and in his sentences, he began to think so much more in terms of "us" rather than himself or even Nina.
I love audiobooks just because that is how I have the time to read books and still get work done (the life of a teacher). I understand your issues with the audiobook, especially consistency and acting choices. I do want to counter with the idea that it is realistic that words are pronounced differently. We are dealing with characters from all over this world and therefore accents and language would cause words to be pronounced differently.
I didn't listen to the audio book when reading it for the first time but I found the audio books online after and just listened to my favourite scenes. One of them was Kaz's fight with Jester (which is such a good scene ushbsiwk) but Kaz's voice was so funny I could not take it seriously at all, it was hilarious-but awful at the same time.
"The writing version of a glow up." Haha yes I love that 👏🏼 omg the Wylan narrator for Kaz's voice 😂 I would've been irritated too. Also yaaas I'm so down for Leigh Bardugo writing more books set in the Grisha world.
Spoiler alert.. Nina never brought him back to life... She just controlled his already dead body which is why she let go... If she had been able to save him she would have.
I also thought this series was definitely better than the Grisha Trilogy. I loved Kaz and Inej's ending. I also am interested to see Nina's story continue. Something about her struggle against the darkness of parem and her new powers reminds me a lot of Nikolai's experiences, and I wonder if there is now a possibility of them getting together in her future travels in Ravka. Would be very interesting material for another book, I think!
What even is kaz's voice for the wylan narrator. He sounds like a really bad villain with stepped throat. And the way you pronounced druskelle is not how I imagined. They were also my favourite ship.
ok RIGHT???? it was such a horrible narration. also, how do you pronounce druskelle? i say it like how i say it in my head haha, and i was surprised to hear that a few of the narrators pronounce it similarly!
I refused to hear audiobook cuz maybe audiobook would ruin my imagination about the characters. But i feel wht you feel about the pronunciation and how the word spelled. I rlly curious about how the pronunciation and how to spelled druskëlle, jurda parem n anything else
I'm so glad you played that part because I was like "IT WAS SO GOOD WHY DIDNT YOU LIKE IT" because I listened to the audiobook of SC, like 90% of it and I LOVED it tho I did have some problems with it. The one I listened was different??? I got it on torrent and I was so impressed by it.
wylan doesn't have his own chapters in six of crows so maybe that was why it was different? it might've been different altogether tho who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just finished reading and I must admit, that Wylan fakeout got me bad.😂 I literally stop reading for 3 days because my heart wasn't prepared for the sad. As for Matthias... I kind of know it was coming, but I just can't stop crying from that point onward when there's Nina scenes! Really need to dive into the King of Scars now.
I absolutely love audiobooks, but I agree that it's not the sort of thing everybody would like. I think the biggest problem I had specifically with Crooked Kingdom's audiobook was the fact that there was a narrator for every single POV, which not only makes some characters sound inconsistent, since every narrator will dub them differently, but it also makes it confusing to "re-adapt" yourself to the other characters' POV. Every single time I heart Jesper's narration, it took me longer than the normal to get used to other characters. I also had problems with Wylan's narrator overall not only because he dubbed Kaz as if he was a Disney villain, but because Wylan himself sounded more effeminate than fragile. But gosh, I loved Kaz's background story so. dang. much! Heck, everyone's past is intriguing. I even stopped hating Wylam as I was reading this book. Bardugo did such a good job in developing these characters! T__T
Well every person from different country and background would 100% pronaunce the same word in different manner so for me it makes perfect sence that every voice actor have a different way of speaking the same words.
thebookbasement it's supposed to be a book of myths and fairytales from the Grisha world. Nothing to do with the six of crow characters, but part of me is hoping that they pop up in some kind of way 😂
Lol tbh I don't like audio books as well I mean there's just his feeling that when your actually holding a physical copy of the book and seeing the words and like the pages that an audio book doesn't give
absolutely agree!! not to say that i don't see the value in audiobooks, and for some people, audiobooks are their only option to consume the story, but personally, they're just not for me!
Audiobooks are very hot or miss and the narrator is usually the reason why. I didn't like the multi narrator format for this duology because, aside from the idea of narrators switching every chapter/section being ridiculous, there was one narrator in each book that I could not stand. I still managed to enjoy both books, though. So... Kudos to Leigh for creating a story so good it couldn't be ruined that weird formatting choice. Oh, and I read this duology without having read the Grisha trilogy. I didn't feel like I missed anything. I'm going back and listening to the trilogy now because her newest book basically requires it.
I tend to love audiobooks, I listen to them a lot, but you were not wrong I really did not like the audiobook for six of crows or crooked kingdom either. A Great narrator can change an ok book into a great book and a terrible narrator can change a great book into a terrible book so in that respect it’s risky. So when you have multiple narrators it’s even more risky. I also really dislike inconsistency in voices, pronunciation, etc. It’s honestly not too much to ask because it is annoying and downright frustrating.
I feel the same about audiobooks. The one and only ab I've listened to from start to finish is 'The Way of Kings' - Brandon Sanderson, and I DESPISED the narrators. So much so that when I heard a sample of another ab and heard the female narrator's voice I immediately got irritated.
I love audiobooks. Just because I am a mom of three little kids, and I run two small businesses and I aint got no time to sit and read 😂😂 So I usually listen to audiobooks while packing or doingn chores. Maybe you will start appreciating audiobooks sometime in the future ☺️ Btw I agree, Wylan's narrator is the most annoying one and Nina's narrator (Elizabeth Evans) is one of the best. I loved her so much I literally listened to all of the Throne of Glass audiobooks because she narrated them too!! 🙌🏻
audiobooks are definitely amazing for busy people (like you!). there's definitely room and time for me to grow attached to them lol. as for elizabeth evans, YES, when i found out she narrated the tog books, i was like, "she would be the PERFECT celaena!"
SPOILER I just reeeaaally hope Leigh Bardugo doesn't bring in a new love interest. Sorry but Matthias is the only one for her ever. #Natthias or not anyone. I sound like a whiny kid but if she brings in a new love interest I will feel crushed.
I HATE audiobooks for . the same reasons I only listen to Podcasts now xD Ireally liked CK but like you said I was always like "ah this is part of the plan, I see" well apart from the damn druskalle..... I really love how she incorporates drugs like the withdrwals Nina is experiencing so many people have felt that, Inej story might be fiction but it's sadly many people's reality and I'm a sucker for Wesper but also both of their families (not Wylan's dad but ya know) and backgrounds. Great review! Have a great day! :)
I’ve totally done that too, but for a different book! The narrator was AWFUL and whenever there was a chapter from that perspective, I had to read it on my own so that I wouldn’t get angry😂
I personally love audiobooks so much, and I would listen to more if I could afford it, but even I was initially thrown off by so many different voice actors for SoC and CK. Confused me so much. Grew accustomed to it by the middle of rhe 2nd book. I think Nina's, Inej's, and Kez's voice actors were amazing, Matthias' voice really suited his character, but Jesper and Wylan(?) was incredibly hard to listen to. Wylan's version of Kez was just too much. I know his voice is decribed as raspy and stuff, but that was just too much. While Whylan's voice seemed to try too hard, Jesper's was the opposite, too subdued, not much versatility. But I'm saying it as a person who could not narrate to save her life. But I paid for the book, so I have a right to my opinion. The books themselves are good and enjoyable, with character developement as their strong suite.
Currently listening through the Six of Crows audiobook and good lord anybody doing Kaz's voice is so horrible. It's not how I imagined his voice... at all.
"SPOILER" Omg Matthias! I forgot to talk about him I was so sad like I didn't even realize that I had become emotionally attached to the character until his death. It was just so real in a way because life ends in the middle of a sentence. They survived this big heist and went though so much trying to stay alive, then this little thing comes along and he's gone. like it just proves how unpredictable and abrupt life is.
Lol Wylan's voice actor sounded like he was coughing up phlem every time he spoke with Kaz's voice. And that shade thrown at that certain trilogy 😂😂😂😂
RIGHT? I WAS LIKE, "CLEAR YOUR THROAT, DUDE. TALK NORMALLY."
I mean I knew it was all part of Kaz’s plan, but I’m okay with it because it’s part of the language of the story. I enjoy watching his plans unfold.
I really was scared at that part because in Van Ecks house Pekka Rollins fooled Kaz. And after that I wasn't the same
I think Leigh Bardugo is going to expand the world with Nina because of the vagueness with her power that we got and she had a bit more of an open ending.
I REALLY REALLY HOPE SO. THAT WOULD BE THE DREAM
I'm somehow very glad that I'm so slow lol, I genuinely thought Wylan had spilled all the tea.
lol don't worry--that's exactly what leigh bardugo intended for you to think!!!
I'm slow too🙋♀️
i thought matthias' death made the most sense tbh. it made me think about inej's comment about everyone having a shadow-- "the suli believe that when we do wrong, we give life to out shadows. every sin makes the shadow stronger, until eventually the shadow is stronger than you." if you think about it, inej's shadow was dunyasha, pekka rollins' shadow was kaz and to me, the young druskelle was matthias' shadow. you have someone who was a mirror image of matthias before matthias changed and it was kind of symbolic to me. and i love how he asked nina to save the other brainwashed druskelle. also about kaz, i rlly hated how he treated jesper like that's one thing that'll always makes me feel bitter.

But totally agree about the Matthias thing although I was sad that he couldn't finish his mission
YES TO THIS COMMENT. matthias is honestly such a fantastic character. watching his growth and moral transformation was so beautiful wow i love him
"I cOnTRoL THe GaMe wYLan" lmaoooo what EVEN is that guy's voice?!
I love audiobooks just because that is how I have the time to read books and still get work done (the life of a teacher).

I love your headband and the weekly uploads!! :)
thank you!! weekly uploads will probably end soon once i go back to school lol
Crying laughing at Kaz's audio dude! I must have listened to a different one.
I refused to hear audiobook cuz maybe audiobook would ruin my imagination about the characters. But i feel wht you feel about the pronunciation and how the word spelled. I rlly curious about how the pronunciation and how to spelled druskëlle, jurda parem n anything else
I loved Kaz, and the fact that he wasn't good, Inej changed him and made him better but he was still true to his self

you are so relatable!!!
i have a creeping feeling that Nikolai and Nina might be a thing but nooooooooo i just want matthias 😭
Omg have you read girl against the universe by Paula Stokes it's really good!!!
Just finished reading and I must admit, that Wylan fakeout got me bad.😂 I literally stop reading for 3 days because my heart wasn't prepared for the sad.

WAIT LANGUAGE OF THORNS?? WHAT IS THIS??? I MUST LOOK IT UP

You must have been really happy when she released that Nina is going to be in king of scars lol!

oh yikes... the way of kings is SUCH a long book. i'm amazed you made it through all of it if you hated the narrators!
Omg I just found this channel and I loove it so much 💕 please keep uploading if you have time 😘also ur really pretty I love uu

ok, you must be psychic, because I didn't see anything coming in this book.
that's exactly what leigh bardugo wanted tho so ur good lol
Meeee tooooo
Hello!
I am a freshaman in Vanderbilt right now. Any advice? Can we meet one time to talk?
kaz in wylan's chapters sounds like a cheap Voldemort. I said what I said :')
SPOILER
I just reeeaaally hope Leigh Bardugo doesn't bring in a new love interest. Sorry but Matthias is the only one for her ever. #Natthias or not anyone. I sound like a whiny kid but if she brings in a new love interest I will feel crushed.
Joanna Kwon I will not accept a new love for her. He said "even in death" and she agreed like yeah in the after life then so no...
I HATE audiobooks for . the same reasons I only listen to Podcasts now xD Ireally liked CK but like you said I was always like "ah this is part of the plan, I see" well apart from the damn druskalle..... ooh i do love podcasts. also, the drug withdrawals component is such a good point!! leigh bardugo is talented as heck i love her
Leigh is a queen!
I find your voice peaceful. So I use your video to fall asleep
haha, thank you!!
I’ve totally done that too, but for a different book! The narrator was AWFUL and whenever there was a chapter from that perspective, I had to read it on my own so that I wouldn’t get angry😂

honestly, very true. even kaz's narrator's voice didn't work for me lmao
i commented something but deleted it again because i'm too dumb not to hear it HAHHAHAHAHA gonna read this
✌
✌✌
Finally I didn't like the audio book either but tbh I don't really like audio books in general I felt so alone😂😂
"SPOILER" Omg Matthias! I forgot to talk about him I was so sad like I didn't even realize that I had become emotionally attached to the character until his death. (SPOILERS) so true. i still hoped for the best tho 😭 i feel bad that he was the only one not to make it
Yassssssssssssssssssss
😀😀😀
