I read both of the Six of Crows and The Crooked Kingdom and they were amazing!!! I then decided to read the Grisha Trilogy and I'm currently on the 3rd book and I think it's okay. I enjoyed the 1st book and I love the Darkling even though he is the bad guy like I can't help it he's just so intriguing and I get very entranced by him like Mal is okay, I don't hate him but I don't really like him either. Also you don't need to read the Grisha Trilogy to read Six of Crows!!
I read the Grisha trilogy a long time ago...In 2014 I think...And I was like 13 at the time....I really loved it and I have since re-read it multiple times. I don't think it's really that necessary to read it before going into Six of Crows but it would help to know about the world a bit more before going into it... Now let's talk about Six of Crows and why I absolutely adore it...(there will be no spoilers) One of my favourite things about Six of Crows is that it really stands out. Among a sea of generic YA books Six of Crows really stands out. It has amazing unique and very well developed characters. Leigh's writing style was really great in SoC and it really shows how much she's grown as a writer. The world itself wasm amazing and unique and the world bulding was fantastic. The plot was phenomenal...It was great...It was just simply amazing. Again, the characters, I absolutely love Inej, Nina, Matthias, Wylan, Jesper and Kaz. Another thing is that the characters are very diverse...There's people of colour as well as LGBTQ+ characters and both are represented very well which is something I absolutely love to see in books and appreciate a lot. Everything about Six of Crows is amazing....I honestly have nothing but positive things to say about it. It just stands out, xD you know...Not just because of its cover but also its insides. Finish the Grisha Trilogy and READ IT!! xD
I really liked the Grisha trilogy, for the most part. I totally think your points are valid, however. I didn't like Mal at really any point of the story, especially as a romantic interest. I would rather just see them as friends. I think the second book is probably my favorite because it introduces my favorite character in the whole series and he's wonderful. And I do feel like they expand on her powers a bit in the second and third books. She uses them for other purposes than going into the fold. But it's been awhile since I read this series, so I can't remember specifics and wouldn't want to spoil anything in any case.
We have the same reason for reading the Grisha trilogy. I needed to start them before getting to six of crows and crooked kingdom. I didn't love book 1, but book 2 was good and book 3 was the best book, and you could see Leigh Bardugo got better with writing. Book 1 and book 2 took me so loooooong to finish. Book 3 was good and kept my attention.... I didn't really like Alina, Mal or the Darkling hahahhaa... I liked Nikolai, Tolya, Tamar, Genya and David. It's weird but I loved them more than the main character. :-p
A new Sophia review as a birthday present! Yay! I'm also reading the Grisha trilogy right now, and also with the motivation of reading Six of Crows. I personally enjoy them as just fun light fantasy when I'm looking to "fill in the gaps" if you will and not all just epic fantasy. Regarding Alina's power, once the fold is gone, wouldn't it just be pretty similar to Celaena's power in ToG (as of Heir of Fire, at least- super behind there!)?
We feel the exact same way! I think I enjoy the Grisha world more than I actually enjoy Alina's story, and Mal is so bland and just eh. My fave out of the three was definitely Siege and Storm. And, like, Six of Crows... Leigh outdid herself with that one that's for sure. Wooo I can't wait to see what you think of the other books.
When I first read Shadow & Bone, I think last month I really liked it even though I sometimes wondered what would've happened if Alina had acted differently in some situations. But now, thinking about it it doesn't really stand out to me anymore and just has sort-of become an average read...
I finished the Grisha trilogy last month for the exact same reason (prep for Six of Crows). I love me some good old world building! But I wasn't the biggest fan of this series. I agree that it was very interesting XD it's unlike any fantasy series I've read before. Siege and Storm was probably my favourite. And I absolutely agree with being drawn to the Darkling. He was one of the most intriguing characters I've read about in any book! I would get super excited whenever he was in a chapter heheh.
+thebookbasement They're amazing....A trillion times better than the Grisha trilogy in my opinion in terms of everything from plot to characters to writing and world building.
Okay I have to say even tho you don't have to read TGT to read SoC/KC, I'm glad you are bc there's are so many fun Easter eggs in the duology that pop up and character mentions and some spoilers. But yeah, SoC/CK are LEAGUES ahead of TGT. That being said, I still do really love TGT, and it definitely gets better with the second book because of a certain character that gets introduced. This character is my favorite character in all of YA, and you really need to meet this person and get to know them, bc they're mentioned a bit in SoC/CK and you'll super appreciate these little name drops/cameos of the character after having read TGT :)
I feel that it was just okay, I thought it could have been amazing but the little things got it down and after the events of the second book, I decided I would see one thing about the third book and once I did, I had no interest in carrying on. Six of Crows sounds more like something I would like, so im just going to read that.
this is my 2nd video i have watched made by you and i really like how you review the book and sharing it on personal level and also i think youre so pretty too.
Shadow and Bone fell a little flat for me; I don't have the energy to finish Siege and Storm. I see the appeal, but the trilogy isn't for me. And then Six of Crow came. I LOVE it. I even love CROOKED KINGDOM a little more. So excited for you read that duology!
I tried to read Shadow and Bone but I couldn’t finish it. I couldn’t stand the heroine. I read Six of Crows abs Crooked Kingdom, though, and I think they’re insanely good.
thebookbasement i also read shadow and bone a few years back but jumped straight into six of crows cause I'd heard really great things about it...and it was one of my favorite books of all time. hope you get to review six of crows soon but i'm willing to wait for it, wait for it
Yes SIx of crows is so amazing! I read shadow and bone as well but i don't know if I'll continue it cause I read crooked kingdom first and it spoiled the ending of the grisha trilogy.
Marie Drasnin it spoiled the ending of the Grisha trilogy? weird. I read both series and I dont find that crooked kingdom related to the grisha trilogy
Yes I read them like this: Six of crows, shadow and bone, crooked kingdom. And in crooked Kingdom they were talking about Alina from the grisha trilogy (I think)

I rather have a trilogy over the Darkling's life.

i like mal and i feel like theoretically, objectively, i like his relationship with alina, but i just don't FEEEEEL it.

it's definitely a super unique series! i can't wait to get more into siege and storm!
I loved the Grisha trilogy!
Personally her writing style to me got way better in the crows books but it wasnt that bad to me in her first books.
i can't wait to get into the crow books! i'm so excited
thebookbasement they are fantastic!!

I just finished Ruin And Rising, last night, and I was gutted. I felt so sorry for Alina. I read all three books in the series in six days.

THIS PERSON INTRODUCED IN SIEGE AND STORM. SO MANY PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THIS PERSON. I NEED TO MEET THEM.

nice!! i'm excited to read it, too! sorry the grisha trilogy wasn't for you though.
i agree with your thoughts about this book! but i just cant bring myself to finish the entire series so i read six of crows the moment i had it
LOL i think bc i've waited this long to read six of crows, i can wait even longer
IMO siege and storm is such a better book than shadow and bone. Especially since a certain character is introduced
NICE. can't wait to get more into siege and storm then!
mynameistye1 yes this exactly! :P
I tried to read Shadow and Bone but I couldn’t finish it. I couldn’t stand the heroine. I read Six of Crows abs Crooked Kingdom, though, and I think they’re insanely good.
Omg I agree with you so much about the darkling
SIX OF CROWS IS EVERYTHINGGGG
Please please make a booktalk for the second book!:D My forever fave character will be introduced there:3
I hope you review the rest of the books when you get to them! :D
that's my plan!

Cool book!!!!
Yes SIx of crows is so amazing! I read shadow and bone as well but i don't know if I'll continue it cause I read crooked kingdom first and it spoiled the ending of the grisha trilogy.
