hey everyone. let's have a look at how to play the great classic prog solo to firth of Fifth by the great Steve Hackett of Genesis.
nothing overly technical or complicated with this one, a good intermediate solo to learn to practice feel, bends and vibrato. there's much to learn from this one when it comes to all of those techniques. it's definitely one the the greatest melodic solos of all time.
good luck with it.
cheers, Kelly

I'm starting classical guitar next week. Came here to see what I'll have to be able to do when I buy my electric. This solo is on my bucket list and it sits even higher than Comfortably Numb or visiting Tibet. I love it so much I'll pretty much play it to myself as soon as I get the skill to do it.
Litterally the best solo of all Times,
And litterally the best guitar lesson of all UA-cam.
THANKS!!!👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've heard people complain about this solo being held up so highly- it's not about showing off, it's simply a soaring, majestic, beautiful piece of music that moves souls.
It’s all about control, precision and playing to the song, great musicians don’t need to play 3,000 notes in a second to evoke the emotion in the listener, and all the best solos can be sung!
21:57 - 24:41 Thank you for this original tune pass
Thank you for teaching me the solo! Wonna paly this in my school band
brilliant lesson thank you so much! love how you do so many amazing solos so accurately that aren't covered by other channels
Thanks for this!! Looking forward to giving it a go. 'Selling England By The Pound' my favourite Genesis album.
Went to see Genesis last week watch DS play it and thought that looks doable. Came upon this lesson and its brilliant. Quite often lessons start well then the tutor leaves you high and dry at the clever bits. I have got this down pretty well after only a couple of sessions and I'm a beginner. So fabulous lesson and a privilege to be able to play one of my all time favourites.
Thanks Stephen! I appreciate that very much.
Very very very great performance bravo!!!
Have you some tabs?
Kelly, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!! I've wanted to learn to play this solo for years.
This one's for you Brian. Good luck with it. Hope everything is clear and relatively mistake free. This one is so much about the nuances. Little bends, little slides, touches of vibrato etc... Hard to cover it all and get absolutely everything right. The notes are there though, and a good close listen to the studio version will tighten up all the little things.
Thanks so much again, Kelly. If you haven't had a chance to catch Steve Hackett live, I highly recommend doing so. Watching and hearing him play this solo is one of the highlights of all my live music experiences. And he makes it look absolutely effortless.
my favorite solo of all time....a sonic feast.. thank you...
Excellent tutorial on this fantastic solo!...with a very detailed explanation, an awesome tone and also a superb quality of playing…being these last two aspects, in my opinion, hardly distinguishable from Steve Hackett ´s ones…!!
Thank you for sharing it.
Greetings from Argentina
This is freakin' AWESOME! Thanks for this!
Very nice job, thank you. Kudos on capturing much of Hackett's amazing vibrato which to me is the key to this great solo.
This video is excellent. I often see this solo tabbed out incorrectly, so thanks for your help!
Definitely bookmarked this. Very nicely played. Thanks for teaching one of my all time faves. BTW: I'm listening to this through fairly high end studio monitors with a a good power amp, and I thought your sound was really spot on.
Merci pour cette aide! Thanks for the help! Very generous!
Perfect! Great job !
I totally agree with you! 👌🏼
Beautifully done! But what I need to learn (in whatever field of the arts) is the trick of coming up with such stunning original ideas in the first place... 🙂
Great great video, thanks for the lesson, keep up the good work!!
Thanks mate!
