The train at Avondale came from the Trinity Loop, which had an amusement park and cabins to stay in, with the train giving rides around the Loop. It closed in the mid 2000s following a storm that washed out part of the tracks. The city of Avondale fought hard to save the bit of track that remains, about 1.6 miles, along with the depot.
It’s a shame that a more significant portion couldn’t have been saved for a tourist railroad. Such an amazing history and even more amazing scenery across much of its route. A great loss indeed for Newfoundland. At least some pieces of it were saved, including the bit of operational track in Avondale.
