Sask. railroad museum has one in it's collection, plus several motors to replace them. the one we have has a cylinder slap and we do not use it, just as a display
Little late, but happy new year to you guys, holding Nfld`s railway history alive. Stumbled again over this video, that first brought me here on your channel a couple of years ago. Maybe, i can go on a plane and join a Clarenville day someday in the future.... who knows? ;-)
Thanks! most of that track was left there by CNR for Newfoundland Hardwoods Ltd. to use, the top end of that track was layed by hand! I also helped with the track work, and i look forward to more track work later this fall! :-)
That's quite different from the old railroad maintenance cars they used here in Alabama when I was a boy. I would watch my grandfather and crew flip the work car over which was just a flat platform with a box in the middle for tools, etc and the two stroke motor was underneath. It was a long stroke two cycle engine that was direct drive so they pushed it in the direction they need to go then they would all jump on the platform . The motor would fire about once every second making this putt putt sound coming down the track unlike the higher pitched engine in this video.
Nice job ... wouldn't mind having one... but I think I would put some kind of "muffler" to quieten down the engine noise quite a bit ... just a thought though ...
Nice to discover the good ideas of previous engineers. The reverse is done by the motor itself. Just stop the car, stop the motor and push the lever that modify slightly the timing of the spark plug (make the spark happen ahead/before the maximum compression position of the piston). Then, crank clock/counter-wise to get the motor running forward or backward. Ready to move in the direction imposed by the motor. Increase the tension on the belt, which act as a clutch. Going up-hill or want to go full speed? Increase the tension even more to reduce friction
Great endeavor you fellows have there. Hope you figure out hoe to generate interest from more people. Manpower and brain power will help you. Attracting people is what it’s all about. Good luck and stay safe. My father put in thirty years with the Southern Railroad as a yard break man in Richmond Va. you might want to check with local railroads if any left, they have cross ties that get rejected that you could acquire. Again good luck, thanks for your videos.
Where are these tracks located? Near Clarenville? Why were they left in place? It's widely thought that the only remaining tracks are in the Trinity Loop area...
Nice and relaxing day for sure ! You should put a bug/ ant sweeper on the front because you ran over some @ 14 :51 ! You really did but I'm kidding ! How much was that to have done ?
running rich lose belt nice cart i know its fresh really nice cart guys i wish i had tracks near by i could run on id build a cool cart not as heavy as yours but a gas powered one golf cart with retractable wheels
+Stephen D James The Clarenville Heritage Society looks after this section of track, they do expand on it when they can get the man power out with the job, regards to how much longer is going to grow, only time will tell for now, they have roughly 1/2km of track in Clareville to run the Brandy Speeder on.
Perfect I seriously hope that you can achieve any and all goals for this little Railway. You could always fire up an Club & name and bring in volunteers to help from tacking to rail and tie laying. Ballast and such.. If there is an old engine kicking around it might be the gauge your looking for. I wish you safety and wellness and I will be watching from Ontario..
Battery for the safety lights that are on the front and back. and for night travel. But on his to be honest I don't know what the battery is for unless it's cause the motor has a generator and they hooked a battery up to keep from damaging the generator by not having a load on it...Thats what I think. Hope this helped!!
Nice work, but you guys seem a little "green" about speeders. If you haven't already discovered it on your own, might I direct you to the North American Railcar Operators Association, and of course the greatest Canadian speeder movie of all time: "The Railrodder" starring Buster Keaton. You can also "date" most speeders with the Fairmont builders records that are now available. Contact me if you need some help. (Unfortunately, UA-cam does not allow me to post the links to those sites.)

Argos guy! You guys are excellent! Finished watching. Thank you for sharing!
I lived in Durbin years ago. Got to see some of those big RR graveyards :(
Thanks! most of that track was left there by CNR for Newfoundland Hardwoods Ltd. to use, the top end of that track was layed by hand! I also helped with the track work, and i look forward to more track work later this fall! :-)
What’s your email I have some questions about the line
Awesome speeder restoration and ride. All thumbs up for you guys.

Great video and a good hobby
Thanks 👍
I remember when my uncle was a dispatcher at the Stevenville crossing the game wardens used them.
here in south africa we have thousands of kilometers of rail. We have grave yards of steam locos standing in rows....hundreds.
Get out there, and get us some video, my man!
My uncle was the dispatcher at Stevenville Crossing in the mid 50s. Visited in 55 and recall the game warden using speeders as well.
Cool, i only visited Stevenville crossing once about 10 years ago. hope to get over that way to record some episodes for the channel. :-)
well done!!! enjoyed very much.

Very good job fellas I love it👍
Will have to look you guys up the next time I'm over as the Newfoundland system fascinates me. Andy
That would be great. Look forward to meeting you. :-)
Nice work, guys! More power to you.
Thank you, and i'm sure the guys thank you too! :-)

Thank you very much... Volunteers make for light work, the people that help out, the more people that can enjoy it in the long run. :-)
Geckos have sticky fingers that allow them to climb walls and ceilings.

There are tracks remaining at Avondale, Clarenville and Trinity Loop! ;-)
Man can that lil' sucker fly, good to see you fellas have got some track to run on.
Nice and relaxing day for sure ! You should put a bug/ ant sweeper on the front because you ran over some @ 14 :51 ! You really did but I'm kidding ! How much was that to have done ?
Good idea!!
Dang... Those tracks needs some love.
We are trying. :-)

I am located in St.John's Newfoundland. The video was recorded at the Clarenville heritage society in Clarenville Newfoundland.
What's Steve Bonnel staring at?
I was wondering about that as well, eh?
Great Video
Glad you enjoyed it! A lot of work went in to rebuilding Brandy. :-)

austin ns brony
Plans are in place to lay down more track this spring. Stay tuned. :-)
Do you think 💭 these railroads 🛤 will be used again?
Good question... i would like to think they will one day. :-)
How far a long this line can you go? And can you extend the line any further..?

+Stephen D James Well, there is a small shunter plymouth i know about! Not sure how much it would cost to move it tho. :-)
What gauge are those rails? They look pretty narrow...
+daveogarf 3feet 6 inch's, Known as narrow gauge.
Sorry if I missed it, but why does this speeder car have a battery if it has no starter?
Battery for the safety lights that are on the front and back. and for night travel. Mike Flynn → Thank You!
Not only for lights, the coil needs 6volts to power the points and spark plug.
there's still some rails on Newfoundland ?!
Yep! Much to the amazement of a lot of people! :-)
Jean François yes
looks like a narrower gauge
It is!
yay!
