The Nick Gulas "9 man blindfolded battle royale" blooper is funny. "The main event is gonna to be a 9 blind manfold." LOL
9-blan manifold....LOL
When Jim mentioned Bob Luce I cracked up. Grew up in Chicago area in the middle 60s. He had all his buddies on those commercials. Bobo, Pepper Gomez, Moose, Bruiser, etc. Sam Mennacker was the ring announcer. It was a hot mess.😂
It's always an entertaining history lesson when listening to Brian and Jim
David Crockett always made me laugh with his "lady and gelm"
“It was exciting as watching stink lose at shit.” Died laughing.
I saw that Mark Larance bit on WWE network vault. The winner of the match...Kevin.
Bob luce: "Wall to wall peeeepole!!!!!" "You couldn't squeeze one more person in there believe me i tried!!!!!" 😂😂😂😂😂
I am old enough to remember Riesor doing non-wrestling announcing at channel 3 in Shreveport. He would read some news updates during the day. He would also call random people in the phone book for the “Dialing for Dollars” giveaway contest during the afternoon movie.
Best Cornette in a LONG time, and that's saying something.
That is true about Gulas. Every week it was “the biggest card in the history of wrestling.” No joke, he really did say that and look like a mafia don.
SuperDrJeckyl here in Chattanooga, Nick would say Chanooga.
Nick Gulas both scared and impressed the childhood me in Birmingham very much! Probably would even today. If he'd be here.😂😔B.W.
Love the changing visuals, really adds to the UA-cam experience.
A lil LSD will do ya...
i grew up watching bob luce in chicago it was great the commercials were the best bens auto sales, one stop, and andy frain great memories
Good lord Nick Gulas had a HEAD
I cant believe this one doesnt have more views...great piece of wrestling history here. Thanks Corny an Brian.
Am I the only one who remembers Dick Lane from SoCal NWA wrestling in the 70’s?
Whoaa Nellie!!!
Alright, I haven't laughed this hard in awhile.
Everyone forgets World Class' other announcer : Bill Mercer. He had some fire at times too.
Rod trongard in the awa was also underrated
Thanks for reminding me that I haven't opened the pockets of my coats either. lol
It's hard to talk about "unique wrestling announcers" without bringing up Stampede's Ed Whalen. Oh my....
I liked Reeser Bowden .... he was not supposed to rob any light from the talent ...and that radio voice was great
I know a few guys who bought their big luxury cars at “Bens Auto Sales” thanks to Bob Luce. His program would come on after always entertaining Harry Carey drunken White Sox broadcast. Perfect fit. His best shows involved HEENAN whining while Luce shows his tag team getting demolished by Crusher/Bruiser. He put the wrestling to ROCK MUSIC as far back as 1975. “Im a Man” Chicago track used BEFORE Lawler did. Heenan-Luce were non stop hilarious. THAT is a HUGE reason we watched...
WWA from Indiana had slamming Sam Menacer (Sam worked the Mike as the beat up Bobby Heenan)!😀😀😀
Boyd Pearce suits was the trademark of Mid-South! So colorful and loud and one night at the Shreveport Captains game, they had the loudest suit contest and Boyd was the judge.
This is a good one. Marty Miller in the awa with his prescription sunglasses was unique too. I used to wonder, what's wrong with the old guy? Rodger Kent the match announcer totally blew kayfabe in the infamous Crusher and Mad Dog incident in 69 or 70 , you can find it here on UA-cam.
Marc Lowrance did become a Methodist minister. He said his time in World Class helped prepare him. I think I understand what he means.
You mean Marty O'Neil. Marty Miller was the short dumper referee
Yeah, you're right
I was a kid in the 80s. I remember an announcer on AWA I think with blonde hair and a dark mustache. Who was that? I think he would interview guys like the Road Warriors. Not sure about the territory..🤔🧐
You maybe thinking of Ken Resnick…
Yup he worked for WWE for a day or two
There were times that Marc Lowrance show a little fire...but it took something huge like Rick Hazzard getting his neck hung up in the ropes, or Fritz Von Erich collapsing in Reunion Arena on Christmas Night.
I remember that happening to David Manning when he was reffing a bout between the Von Erichs against Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez. Manning got bumped, and I think he was supposed to go out of the ring, but got all mixed up somehow and his head went between the top two ropes, and the rest of his body went over the top, resulting in him doing a legit Mick Foley hangman spot!
Marc Lowerance panicked and immediately hollered: "MY GOD, HE'S CHOKING!!!" He abandoned his commentary and jumped up on the ring apron with Rick Hazzard to get him loose. He goes back to commentary saying: "I beg your pardon! He could've been killed in those ropes!" It seemed like he was jacked up the rest of the match.
We forgot one in WCW. I never knew who's idea it was to do this. Van Earl Wright, from CNN, would do voiceovers for the local WCW house shows in the early part of the Turner ownership. He would use voice inflections that truly did sound like a bad carnival barker. I would always be like, shut up and let me read the card. I am either sold to buy a ticket or I am not.
P
Van Earl Wright & Jeannie Zelasko lol CNN Sports
TV spots with Dusty Rhodes and Tom Stimus used cars
Don Owen was the best . He was so stiff and uncomfortable it was hilarious. As much as Don drank you would think he would show some personality. Lol
I was just thinking of putting something down about Don Owens, I used to listen to him announce the matches and thought "Does he know that he's supposed to be alive?"
About 20 years ago there was a small indie promotion here in St. Louis. I never went to one of there shows but once a month they had an hour long TV show on one of the community access cable channels, every year they had a $25.00 over the top rope battle royal, ($25.00 was the prize). They always did a live promo on their cable show and it was always the same, the play by play announcer would do his spiel and then the color commentator would jump in and say, "My god! $25.00! There's guys here that would throw their own grandmother over the top rope for $25.00!"
Reiser Bowden was a very formal-looking gentleman. He always looked proper. Boyd Pierce was a legend with no sense of fashion, and very rural sounding. I loved both these men, as they and the Cowboy were my childhood wrestling experience with Mid-South Wrestling. Mark Lowrance in WCCW was VERY excitable when calling matches, just bland as the ring announcer. He was a seminary student who took a 9 week gig that lasted for a decade or more.
I love Mark. Get nostalgic when I see those old Vids .
Cannot hear the words "Be There!" without thinking of the late great Mr. Freddie Miller on GCW!🔔🎤 × 10.B.W.
SWCW in San Antone had great announcers:Gene Goodson,Gene Kelly,& Steve Stack.
Oh yeah. Along with the Mexican Rapido Rodriguez
Get a big kick of the Gulas impression at 2:03
There are a number of Southern accents, and the one spoken by both Nick and George was very similar spoken by President Jimmy Carter, and the various Southern characters that John Goodman did. It didn't sound Greek.
@@alansmithee2467 Imagine trying to educate him on what a Greek accent sounded like.
@@alansmithee2467 Nich Gullas was born in Alabama, so he and his son would most likely not have Greek accents. Perhaps their accents were old time Birmingham, Alabama accents. Their accents sounds similar to those of Jimmy and Billy Carter.
Mark Lowrance is a LEGEND!!
I always thought he was way underrated.
Earnie Roth from Big Time wrestling in the mid to late '60s. Later he was the Shieks mgr. Abdullah Farouk who morphed into the Grand Wizard of Wrestling.
I just looked it up, and Nick Gulas and I have the same birthday. 74 years apart (I was born in 1988), but the same day :)
Milt Avruskin, for Superstars of Wrestling and International Wrestling.
This is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I'm crying over here
😂😂😂😂💯
Russell,Schiavone & Ross are my faves
Every time I re-listen to the 9 man blindfold battle royal bit I bust out laughing so much it hurts my sides. Goddamn it, Jim!
Nick would say I signed the biggest card anywhere. Here in Birmingham in the Boutwell auditorium , a recorded breaking crowd and nobody thought the thing only held 5000 people
Jimmy remember Big Jim Hess, in Knoxville, warp your head off hold?
Don Coss from Pacific Northwest Wrestling .
He was like...when your high school guidance counselor wants to be hip.. "Thursday were gonna tear up Salem"...😐..
Also In San Antonio Steve Stack and Rapido Rodriguez would simultaneously talk over each other.. one for the English speakers and another for rhe Spanish crowd .
‘Stentorian’? That’s the kind of word you use after decades of doing crosswords in hotel rooms.
What about Boyd pierce an his suits on midsouth
"A little dab'll do ya!"
Lowrance later became a Methodist minister, Cornette had that one right.
Marc Lowrance, is the Chuck Norris of announcers, nothing fazed him, Legend is right!
But as a commentator, he would get really excited.
I loved the way Percy Pringle would call him “Mr. Microphone”.
0:16 had me in tears.😂
Ed whalen Stampede wrestling" theres been a malfunction at the junction"
I liked Riesor Bowden . He was a straightman . To me , it suggestested that not everyone associated with wrestling was in on the joke or a raving lunatic .
I hate a commentator that oversells .... if the action is good it sells it self .... the OMG Rant is over rated
I liked Lord Layton, Ernie Roth, Bob Finnegan. You can probably tell I grew up with Big Time Wrestling.
Ernie Roth went on to become The Grand Wizard in The WWWF. Influential Heel Mouthpiece who Managed Superstar Billy Graham who really needed no one to speak for him. TGW had the coolest Shades ever!😂😎🎤💪🤼♂️B.W.
Marc Lowrance is a preacher now in Dallas
He is and occasionally pops up at wrestling reunion shows. He has interviews on UA-cam. He still has class...to this day he refuses to be critical of Fritz.
@@billymc2681 It seems he really believe in the saying don't bite hand that fed you
Saturday mornings were great
Bob Luce talking during those matches is something every wrestling fan needs to watch at least once.
Two of the best impersonations of Nick/George Gulas I've heard and I haven't heard Nick in yrs
I read this as, "Jim Cornette and Brian Last Discuss Antique Wrestling Announcers." Lol
Marc Lowerance I think was a teacher by day. Also on Reese Bowser I remember his Ernie Ladd promo on Andre the giant
Andre the dummy, lol
So Mark Lowrance was the original "Pockets"?
Funny as ever! Perfect team!
Ed Whalen from Stampede Wrestling was my childhood announcer, still love it !
I grew up on Bob Luce wrestling...funny as hell today..bordering on annoying as hell...
Nick Gulas looks like the g-man. (Half life, 1998)
Stink lose its shit?? @7:37 WTF does that mean
I've tried listening to Bob Luce, I have, I have tried and I really want to like him. But...
Bob Luce - It's a chain match with the Baron, the German Baron and it's a chain match, chain, cha-cha-cha chain, cha-cha-chain, know that song, know that song, that old MoTown song, cha-cha-chain, cha-cha chain chain of fools...This is a cha-cha-chain match...

One announcer moment I like was in the mid 1970s. The old MSG guy who's name I can't remember. He did that thing where you would say the last word or two twice. "World Champion Bob Backlund. Backlund.
This match in question was about 1975 and involved Blackjack Lanza. The announcer said. And here is Blackjack LaLanza. Then he pauses, seems to realize he got it wrong before deciding to plow forward anyway.
"LaLanza."
I've seen it 20 times and I break up every time.
Early Dallas Sportatorium wrestling
Announcer Dan Coates
Ring Announcer Boyd Pierce
Time Keeper Joe Renelli
Referees Bulldog Danny Pleches and.?
Thanks Jim
"What are you doing Bob?"
Bob (Bending backwards) "I'm trying to get a job at Ben's auto sales. I'm practicing bending over backwards for customers. Salesmen at Ben's bend over backwards to make you a deal."
Searching for these guys now loo
I’m sorry in my lifetime JR is the best hands down
This is great
I liked these three commentators..... Lance Russell, Gordon Solei, and Joey Stiles. those were my favorites. each great for the style they represented.
I found out that Gordon Solei is Solei Moon Frye's dad
@@IImitateVince and they both performed for cirq du solei
@@spanky9676 🤣
Bob Caudle.
What episode this was on
What about Steve Stack from Southwest Championship Wrestling . The greastest televised wrestling of all time. Other wrestling programs and announcers/hosts/commentaters were stail in comparison.
David Crockett was another announcer I couldn't stand. He didnt know the names of any moves. He just yelled "oh look at this..what a move". He didnt know how to tell the story and add to the match. He was too excitable. I loved that era but I hated whenever he was on which was often since he was a crockett.
Joey Styles is 1,000 times better than David Crockett. Joey Styles knows how to commentate on a match and actually knows the moves and submission holds and stuff like that. David Crockett doesn't even know most of the moves and I'll put it this way, he's very much like Vince McMahon when Vince McMahon was commentating. Remember the "what a maneuver" thing he used to do? Even though I was maybe 2 or 3 years old at the time, I can sympathize with it.
James Bellflower. Me and you are on the same page. Could not stand David Crockett, the only time I liked him was first Greg Valentine beat his ass then years later NIKITA KOLOFF gave him the sickle. That was the best of David Crockett.
+ArcadianVanguard Was just wondering why you don't change channels name, personally i believe you would have a ton more views, and also subs if people knew this was Jim's own channel...
3s10
If anyone is interested all they have to do is track down The Jim Cornette Experience and follow the links here.
First of are you ArcadianVanguard or associated with them? Secondly it's not like people don't , but most of them find Jim Cornette's Talking Sense, and think that's his original channel, which is why that channel has around 80k subscribers while this one is not even at 20...
Full disclaimer, I have no association with Jim or Brian. Now about the point you raised. I don't think it hurts them that most people go to the Jim Cornette's talking sense. I believe you've probably seen the endorsement video on that channel?
That they are endorsed by Jim? Yes i have, and no it doesn't hurt the people, and even if, it's not what im' referring to, it hurts this channel, that could easily turn all those subscribers to ad revenue, and more people watching means more ad revenue... As i said in the first comment was just wondering why they don't do it, i didn't need someone to tell me it's hard or easy for people to find it, i was asking ARCADIANVANGUARD or the ones associated with it, as only they can answer why they won't/don't...
I would like to explain. This is actually not his channel. His content is actually hosted on this channel by his cohost the great Brian last. Brian owns the Arcadian vanguard network and his content is also hosted here. Cornette himself doesn't have a UA-cam and prefers not to. Hope this helps! Have a good day.
Stink lose its shit lmao
Wrestling doesnt have "charm" anymore its too corporate.
4:20-4:24 Cornette stutter
I am surprised that he did not mention Gordon Solies famous mispronunciation of suplex, but he's fine with making fun of the Gulas family and their foreign accent? I'm a big fan of Jim. That comes off is racist though, you would think after being discriminated against in WWF for his southern accent that he would know better,
Lmao wah wah wah waycism. Greek isn't a race first off, and who told you that 1 race can't make fun of another? If you're telling Jim he can't say something due to his skin color than you are racially discriminating against him that's not cool
@@SeamHead33 dude this comment is your old, I don't remember what it was about and it's kind of sad that you would comment on something that old
@@onamattapeeya delete it then sweetie
@@SeamHead33 no Karen I'm not going to delete it, what kind of stupid suggestion is that?
Daddy says sell!
