I would love an omnibus of Corny and Brian doing wrestling trivia. Friggin' walking encyclopedias, they are.
Lol
Or him playing the WWF Wrestlemania board game b/c he’d get stumped b/c he wasn’t watching as he’d put it “any of that shit” lol
Jim Cornette and Brian last should make their own trivia game I would totally buy it.
"How much Jack Daniels can you drink in a typical Porkchop Cash match"?
This was entertaining enough for a Round 2 of Trivia.
Maybe Jim could do another version.
PLEASE do more trivia questions of this Gordon Solie Trivia! When I heard there was even a game like this my excitement turn on full throttle! It's not just because it's a game, but it is because this is wrestling history that we can learn "why" they are correct, or even incorrect from after Jim answers the card questions. Do I have to beg for crying out loud!? Okay, you got me...I'm on my arthritic knees here now, do I need to pucker my lips for you, too??? lol
Nothing like some good ol' trivia with Jim Cornette!
Play the record. I want to hear Gordon's message from beyond the grave in heaven. It will be Gordon Solie's goodbye for all eternity. Our last chance to hear from the Dean of Wrestling Announcers.
We definitely would love to hear him again 🙏
Indeed. RIP to a true legend and one of the greatest wrestling commentators of all time.
This seems right up Cornette's alley, really enjoyed this.
I'm sitting here wondering how he remembers all this. But history is why I listen
@@tylerdurden788 Corny is a walking encyclopedia of wrestling !
I actually did pretty good on this one as well
This and guess the program are better than listening about WWE and AEW... any day of the week
@@rockybalboa1847 Lol - you ain't never lied
Gordon Solie: the Belly-to-Belly supley
This trivia was fun as hell!
I laughed so hard at "equestrian device" hahaha
I agree!
for the years prior to Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Annual Awards, they based the winners according Victory Sports Series "Wrestling Annual" starting in 1973(#4) and up to 1981(for the year 1980). PWI started in 1982(March issue) to do their own Annuals.
@5:15, the moment we knew Corny was HOOKED!! Now, I want a special segment just for this game.
The original "Great American Bash" tour in 1985 was billed as the "50th Anniversary of Jim Crockett Promotions Tour," so that is probably where the board game makers got the idea that JCP started in 1935.
Would love to hear Jim in an actual Trivia competition against somebody
Vs unka dave
Ox Baker teaching ballroom dance is like George Steele teaching yoga.
Steele was a pe teacher! If he were coming up today he would have!
Lmfao
@@NickWeissMusic I’ve seen a picture of him in a yearbook- had a polo on with the school name. Looked like he had a sweater on underneath!
@@jonathancarlson6127 haha!
I kinda wish one of the weekly show Brian and Jim do was purely historical wresting, it’s way more interesting. I know there’s all the old shows covering lots of it but I could listen to old wrestling stuff all day…
I totally agree!
Otto & the phone books was an AWA segment at one point.
Also pics in the Apter mags.
I knew the answer to that question because of the AWA. He shredded those phone books like they were paper bags..
@@Coco.B. same here grew up watching AWA in Wisconsin.never forgot that segment for some reason lol
People in Austria know him better for this than his promotion. I remember him being on TV in my early childhood a few times.
He's even a part of the modern scene due to some rotund (and orotund) guy in WWE and his version of "The Cannonball."😏😂🎤🤼♂️B.W.
In British wrestling from the 60's and 70's the most fearsome person was the old lady knitting in the front row because more often than not the knitting needles ended up stuck into the heels
And not exactly just the bottomside of their feet. Yikes!😏😂😖🎤👵🤼♂️B.W.
PWI inherited The Wrestler awards from 1971 or whenever they started until its own publication began. I definitely remember them spelling this out in one or more of the Year-End issues.
Sports entertainment international Inc. 1987....had Vince ever uttered those words that early? Surprised Corny didn't bring that up.
Love you Jim, you always make me laugh especially when I am kinda down you kick ass and Brian too! Thanks so much to you both, just as good today as you were in the 80:s..
I lived in mid south during its time and JYD was soooooooooooooo over … the guy could not go wrong and when he came out to another one bites the dust , the pop was HUGE !! He was beloved by everyone. Watching the little kids dancing to his music when he was coming to the ring was awesome. He was super over. Rip JYD
Hearing Jim answer trivia is exactly what i signed up for.
Gordon Solie, the the first voice I ever heard watching GCW as a kid, legend 🙏🏾
My grandpa was on the Athletic Commission in New Orleans in early 80’s.. Helped Jyd get out of some trouble..
Wahoo played for Houston Oilers, Denver Broncos, NY Jets and Miami Dolphins. Ernie Ladd played for San Diego Chargers, Houston Oilers and Kansas City Chiefs.
What do the following have in common? Dusty Rhodes, Tully Blanchard, Ted DiBiase, Terry Funk, Barry Windham, Stan Hansen, Tito Santana, Manny Fernandez, and technically Dick Murdoch.🤔🎤🐴💎🏈B.W.
And as a bonus what is the Pop Cultural significance of Paul Jones's Birthplace?🤔🎤🤼♂️B.W.
Ernie Ladd played for The AFL Los Angeles Chargers in 1963, the year that The NFL World Champion Chicago Bears categorically refused to play The AFL Champion Chargers to determine who was better.🤔🎤🌩🐻🏈🤼♂️B.W.
@@madbrowniac7871 They all went to West Texas State University
@@madbrowniac7871 No idea
Cornette will forget more wrestling trivia than any of us will ever know.
6:40 "Missy baby it's handsome jimmy" whoo baby
Holy crap! Ox Baker was my great uncle. I've seen pictures. He was actually a really great dancer according to my Granny.
THE HEART PUNCH!
Did you ever get to see the wicker furniture set he won on the price is right?
@@spanky9676 I didn't really know him that well but yes it was still there in the 90s
One of the best heals in his era !
Spot on Travis with the Gordon Solie thumbnail.......PERFECT !!
Ha, finally! I've almost thought about sending my copy of this to Jim & Brian because I thought it would be fun to hear Jim play this thing.
Earnie Ladd played for San Diego then Kansas City.
In Austria Otto Wanz‘s „numerical literature“ achievements are still relatively well known among 40y/o and up. Not sure those people know about his wrestling activities.
If this doesn't become a weekly segment WE RIOT.
I remember Gordon hawking this game on a wrestling show.
Ya know, I think making some form of wrestling trivia game would be a good business opportunity for Jim. You could make a mobile app version and can update and expand it over time.
Or my favorite word for foreign objects: PLUNDER. Or "plunda" if you go fully on Dusty Rhodes, baby.
The trivia was great. Hell, I'd listen to Jim Cornette read the damn phonebook for three hours!
They should bring this game back.
Segments like this as well as when Brian does the Guess the program 😎
This was so entertaining wow! Cornette is the Master
This was a lot of fun. I was really proud of myself for getting some of the less obvious ones right, but about 90 percent of that is due to this podcast in the first place. 😅 Honestly the wrestling history is my favorite thing about this podcast, whether it's in the form of games, questions from listeners, or just Corny and Brian talking. I enjoy it way, way more than the reviews of modern wrestling.
I agree. The way it's going these days and most tv wrestling being crappy this is waaaaay better.
Couldn't agree more, I have been saying the same. Less modern crap wrestling reviews, more history!
I really enjoyed this segment. Please give us more episodes with trivia.
Senator Gary Hart of Colorado got "defrocked" twice in the 80's. First in 84 when Mondale asked him "Where's the beef?" and 87' when Hart dared reporters to investigate accusations of infidelity, and they found him having an affair with a girl on a yacht called (I shit you not) "Monkey Business." My dad worked on the first Hart campaign. His job was to entertain Mrs. Hart while Gary was away "on business..."
Do more segments like this. This is very enjoyable.
I miss the times when guys like Gordon solie work doing commentary work and everything and made wrestling more real.
This was exactly what I was in the mood to listen to and I had no idea until I started listening. Fun stuff.
I got Rotunda right, dang. I remember they announced his as being from Syracuse
Now I see Ox Baker making an entrance with Fandangos theme....
This was "not unentertaining". I love these and look forward to them. I try to guess as many as I can as Corny. I don't do too bad. Anyways, don't stop doing these kind of segments, keep 'em coming, they're hecka fun!! And looking at the comments I'm not the only one that thinks that. And who woulda guessed Ox Baker moonlighting as a ballroom dancer.💃💃💃
Gordon Soli was The Man...Georgia Championship Wresting and NWA. The psycho fans of the South.
Eddie the Lamprey sounds like an inside joke from whoever wrote these.
did Gordon like to drink Vodka...someone could've made some "Gordon Stoli's"
There were 2 big reasons that Mid-South took off in 1979: Bill Watts and his excellent management and booking skills; and the oil boom in Louisiana in the wake of the Middle East oil embargo. There was more disposable income in south Louisiana than there had been in decades. Watts took advantage of that.
This was entertaining. Love Jim answering old school stuff. Thanks Jim!
Sports Review Wrestling did the awards from 72-78
No they didn't, only the 1981 awards. The rest were in the Annuals.
I couldn't even imagine today's generation of wrestlers getting into bar fights. There would be a ton of news stories of wrestlers getting their ass kicked probably.
I don't know man, I could imagine Darby Allin smashing a guy with a pint glass in a bar and then diving off the bar onto him.
Yes, please! More of this! I quite enjoyed this segment.
I had so much fun listening to this. This definitely needs to happen more!!
From what I'm reading the magazine started in 79, but was giving the awards out in 1972 before the actual magazine.
8:42 Or as we call them in Canada, Objects
Got the Sran Hansen one. Hansen broke Brunos neck.
Jim never ceases to amaze me with his historical knowledge of pro wrestling. It's f'n amazing.
This is awesome I have so much fun watching this I got to Unc Chapel Hill .. My friends don’t get this kind of awesomeness so .. this wrestling trivia and skit made me happy man
The Big Cat Ernie Ladd Drafted And Played For The San Diego Chargers Too
This was a Great segment! I Hope to hear more of this game in future episodes. This is by far more interesting and entertaining than reviews of shows I gave up watching Years ago.
I honestly love that trivia game. I hope they do more of it. Thumbs up!
This was one of my absolute favorite clips from these two. Love hearing wrestling history.
Listening now at 12:16am, drunk, stoned, and shaving...happiness.

@@FortunateJuice😂
Great episode. I hope you do more trivia episodes.
Apparently, "close" only counts in equestrian devices and hand grenades.
It's not a blacksmith it's a local equestrian facility dammit!- vince mcmahon (probably).
Wow That's Was Awesome I Hope They Got The Board Game On Ebay
Let's do this again. I like the trivia game.
Yall gotta do these more often
They should make that a reg segment...that was great 👍
Yeah, at least monthly.
Idk about The Mummys experence, but Mulligan got a bad infection from a knife wound in NYC, I believe.
That happened in summer 1971 at the Boston Garden.
I am surprised Cornette didn't say old women were more dangerous. At the house shows in the town I grew up in during his Mid-South days, there was some old lady that always sat front row in the same seat and she went after Corney everytime the Midnight wrestled. The JYD vs the Freebirds was huge even before JYD was "blinded". Also, the substance that JYD was "blinded" with was to be used during the hair vs hair match for removal of hair, but Hayes was about to lose so he put the substance in Dog's face.
We need more of these. These are great! Interesting game, seems really fun.
This is a great segment 👍 Jim's laugh 😁😄😀
Fun Fact: There is a video with Ox Baker on youtube where he was a contestant in the price is right
this was an unexpected treat. more of these please
The show should have more of THIS
Its on vinyl
. ... NVM leave it for the aliens to figure out when they dig our civilization up
Love the artwork
Unlike what last said, I would LOVE to have this be a frequent series. It is really informative and I try to guess the answer too which makes it even more fun. Really hope they continue with this :).
PS: I would LOVE to own that game lol.
they used to advertise this on Continental Championship Wrestling every week
an equestrian device
What one would expect from Sports Entertainment Inc.
This is the stuff I signed up for ..
Awesome half an hour ..
love the artwork
Cornette is a true pro wrestling savant.
I love these. Do more of them.
Yeah truly you guys, I don't anticipate any show like I anticipate this one.
You just get better and better.
Awesome segment fellas! 👍
Love it!
Ox Baker has been my Instagram profile pic for a year now, if only my eyebrows could be so grossly endowed.
12:09 Grant is not buried in Grant's Tomb. He is entombed in it, not buried.
And this was the day where the legend of Eddie Gagliadouchey began due to Vince hearing Brian and Jim talking about him and Vince thinking "that would be a great replacement for Hornswoggle pal"
Most underrated manager in history: Captain Lou Klein.
I really wanted to hear the Gordon vinyl..
jim goin crazy on trivia night
