Gorilla would mention having to reinforce rings...but with a 50 man Battle Royal (Which i have never seen) I can imagine they would REALLY have to reinforce the ring
The first battle royal I saw live was in 1982, and featured John Studd, Superstar, Super Destroyer, Buzz Sawyer, Ron Bass, Kevin Sullivan, Mr. Wrestling II, Ray Stevens, Brad Armstrong, and Michael Hayes. Studd looked like he wasn't feeling too well because he barely wrestled in the tag team match he had prior to the battle royal. When he got into the ring, he just leaned back against a corner and waved off anyone that tried to attack him. Later in the battle royal, Studd signaled Ron Bass, who came over to throw Studd out of the ring, but he wasn't going to make it look easy. Studd held onto the ropes, until all of the other wrestlers came over and helped push him out. Stevens, Bass, and Sullivan were eliminated. Wrestling II and Superstar both fell out of the ring together. Buzz Sawyer got tossed out next, but remained at ringside. When Super Destroyer whipped Brad Armstrong into the ropes, Buzz pulled the top rope down, so that Brad fell out of the ring. They began battling outside, while Michael Hayes eliminated Super Destroyer to win.
BomberMonkAssassin35 I couldn't stand all the people standing around right at the ringside section(and no, they weren't security)... it turns out that was the section reserved for the Saudi Royal family, so you had a bunch of RICH, priveleged assholes blocking everyone's view thru half the fucking thing... and the show was a stinker.
Yeah and a few of them stood and had backs to the camera for most of the show lol he's reviewed it now man so you can check it out if you haven't already.
Shouldve had a manager battle royal in the old wwf. Corny. Fuji. Wimpleman. Brother love. Paul bearer. Albano. I'm sure I'm missing a few. Couldve had Sherri and Elizabeth ringside. Maybe luna.
@@eddymurray4792 if you were booking it, maybe, but more likely, someone who couldn't take that bump would have been left, like Iron Sheik in Wrestlemania 17 legends battle royal.
I still remember that rumor in 2012 that Jericho would enter last, but at that point EVERYONE was eliminated, so he'll just enter and win the whole thing automatically.
Pat has been retired for ages. He’s reduced to being a consultant and shares his thoughts via phone calls, but from the lack of cohesion in the product, you can tell his thoughts fall on deaf ears.
Andre: Undisputed King of the Battle Royal. Watch him, back in 1974 and billed at 424 lbs, out-wrestling both of the Hollywood Blondes at once and eliminating (OTT rope) the two 230 lb’ers simultaneously! Outrageous.
my 1st match in nj was a battle royal bcuz 2 dudes don't show up & had no training , I did 3 since then & I did great but what a cluster fuck , the guy that was supposed 2 win got eliminated , hahahahaha
Wow!! I had no idea rumbles was this deep! So many good idea and angles that can be used today but everyone wants heels and anti heroes... Cough!! (the WWE attitude era) or the over use of acrobatic stars to dominate modern wrestling its a shame. Sometimes classic wrestling is best in certain situations. Sell ya tickets get good talent over and everyone is generally happy no more no less.
@brad 2020 Omg man. Some people lived through it, ya know. I was only a kid but everyone knows about it. Patterson took off a year in 1992 when the news broke. Most of the allegations were against Mel Philips and Terry Garvin. Where's your proof? Are you 12? Jesus christ. When there is smoke, sometimes there is fire. When there is a plethora of smoke for years that was hidden while everyone behind scenes knew, spoke about it to the point it was printed and an open secret since the late 80s... Lol. Do you also think Joey Ryan is innocent? Some people are beyond vexing

1:26 Cornette did the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X7
Am I the only one that loves that into music. It is a perfect little jingle.
I once found it on UA-cam and listened to the whole sond several times. Can't remember the title though
aiooty19 let me know if you remember it.
It's called "The Clicks" by Highway Gimps
Meko Unknown thanks!
It kind of sounds like The Gaslight Anthem.
The A.W.A. had a tradition of having a battle royal each Thanksgiving with added big names like Andre The Giant . They were quite a hoot!
In Minnesota?
.
William Hild I saw lots in the AWA one a year I lived in Winnipeg
I remember one in SF on Thanksgiving and my parents refused to take me. Circa 1982.
I'm waiting for Jim to review the greatest Royal rumble

Blindfolds in wrestling have interesting effects
I was in a battle royal with a couple of big chicks down in Biloxi in the late 90s . I was the first one out
melvin cash Lmfaoooo
Did you get over? OR did you get heat?lulz
You lost the Iron man match... 👎
I would love to see a wrestler do the rib that Jim mentioned when the green guy would run the ropes in the middle of a battle royal, it sounded funny
Big fan Jim! Love your podcast videos they make any day better by far!

Jimmy hart too
Most of those guys were too old to get thrown out the ring....
@@jaythor70 most of those guys got thrown from the ring often enough. Maybe a few couldn't cut it.
Slick would have won.

Corny should've won the royal rumble
best match ive ever seen Gordy vs Killer Kahn texas death match
Forearm, Forearm, Forearm.
Pat Patterson was a icon when it came to booking a battle royal program. Pat is still at all the PPV's and has become very close with HHH now.
Pat has been retired for ages. He’s reduced to being a consultant and shares his thoughts via phone calls, but from the lack of cohesion in the product, you can tell his thoughts fall on deaf ears.
Bet he got behind HHH or was HHH behind?
I member pre expansion WWE battle royals. No intros so they could have fewer wrestlers than advertised.
AWA HAD THE BEST BATTLE ROYALS
Number 30 could win the royal rumble without doing anything, if everyone else already got eliminated
Is Andre about to toss Ray Stevens in that pic?
might even be Patterson

Gently toss, if Ray was lucky. If not, then drop kick him all the way out into the cheap seats!

11:00 thts wht Chris jericho did
man, Pat either hasn't been doing the last 10 or so rumbles or he's too old to do it like he used to
DOES PAT PATTERSON THE LITTLE BOY LOVER GET PAID EACH TIME THE RUMBLE HAPPENS
