    I grew up in Florida and raised on Florida Championship Wrestling. I was orphaned at 2 but my Granddaddy came and got me every Friday night and took me back Sunday evening. Watching wrestling was our thing and my Granddaddy never drank and the only time I’ve ever heard him cuss was while we were watching wrestling. We went to see a show at the Lakeland Civic Center and we were in decent seats but not to close but there was a little old lady with a humongous yellow purse sitting ringside and every time a heel got close enough she smacked the shit out of them lol. The Cuban Assassin got more lumps from her than his opponent. Kevin Sullivan was fighting Dusty but he must have been watching from gorilla or been informed by all of the other heels about old granny because try as Dusty might he couldn’t get Kevin near that mean ass granny lmao. R.I.P. Jesse James Calder you were the best granddaddy ever and the best man I’ve ever known!!!

    My 4'4" crazy Irish/Cherokee momma had a pen knife out waiting to cut Crusher Blackwell on the way back from the ring. We saw it and stopped her at the very last second. Looked like the Lee Harvey Oswald prison transfer scene

    There was an old lady who used to sit near the steps up into the ring at the Boston Garden. She had a sewing bag that she used to carry to the matches. She had a couple of old hat pins in her bag that she would pull out at try to stick the "bad guys" as they walked by her on the way into the ring. The legend of "Hat Pin" Mary....

    Anytime I watch an old territory days tapings, I see such a different crowd than today. There were so many old ladies scattered. Nowadays you don’t see any. Very rarely at least.

  • @dunnwell7780

    It was the same in Britain. Giant Haystacks (Loch Ness in WCW), used to take a right battering from old ladies' handbags. Added to it back in those days British promotions didn't use barriers around ringside. I think it was expected to be part of the show, let them get their aggression out!!!

    That is hilarious! Back when I was little they used to have rasslin' in the television studios up on the mountain. A lot of times Jerry Jarrett and Tojo Yamamoto would wrestle there and you would see these little old ladies trying to hit the bad guys with their purses. Of course Tojo would be in the ring hitting the Fargo brothers with his sandals.

    The days when wrestling attracted EVERY age demographic....because the storylines were about RELATABLE MOTIVATIONS. The Attitude Era and 90s ECW basically killed that. You never see older fans at events nowadays, or many woman fans
    This was a HILARIOUS story by the way lol

    • @rickyusa1000
      @rickyusa1000 6 років тому +3

      Of course I remember them. They sat on the far side of the ring, just to right of center. When they started taping in the studio they were permanently given the same seats. One time ringside announcer Bill Kirsten brought them into the ring and gave them each a gift because the All Star Wrestling show got so many letters asking about them. They were twins named Mertie and Gertie Hyde. One of them passed away and the other still went the shows every week.

    I used work with this little Mexican dude that used a fryer basket like Jim used his tennis racket. It was a place open till 3am across the street from 3 bars. It was chaos every single weekend. One time he hit a dude so hard with the fryer basket it made a dent in the shape of the guys skull. We ended up taking all the video footage of all the fights and making a montage and put the rocky theme music to it. 🤣

    I was at a local baseball game with tickets from my place of work and we got upgraded seats.
    When we sat down I didn't notice at the moment we were going to be in front of a group of ladies of retirement age.
    As soon as I relaxed and started talking to the people next to me I got smacked in the head with a rolled up program that sounded like a gunshot
    I turned around and this tinywhite haired lady was scowling at me for being big and tall.
    Everybody had a good laugh.

    There was an old lady who went to tapings of Don Owen's PNW wrestling in Portland, OR. She would get into it with Chris Colt, who was a flamboyant heel jobber, at one point even slapping Chris during a match. That's a bump every heel should want to take!
