- 🏟️ MATCHPLAY & COMMENTARY
Both Michael and I are in a group called ATS which stands for Active Tennis Singles, a community of tennis lovers based in Singapore where its also used as a platform that helps facilitate finding matches between players. Today we were playing a Ladder Match so you can say that this was a competitive friendly match with points were on the line. It was my first time playing with Michael and based off his Rovo Testimonials and what I’ve heard from other players, Michael has a deadly forehand and a nasty one-handed backhand, some even call him the Filipino Federer so coming into this match I was prepared to chase down balls and told myself to try to retrieve as much as possible to put one more ball back in play.
Overall the match was a battle of Offense vs Defense with some really nice rallies and points, I’ve put some of the timestamps of the crazy points below.

💭 TAKEAWAYS
What went well
1) Mental Fortitude and Perseverance
Even though I was found on the back foot, either down breaks or facing set point, I managed to grind through and not let the pressure affect me and stick to my game. That allowed me the opportunity to come back and have more chances (converting them would be another thing altogether) and for that I was able to stay in the match for longer and put pressure on my opponent to close it out
2) Positioning
During the match I felt like I was able to read my opponent’s shots and be in a position ready to receive, retrieve, and defend. That helped me to convert defence to attack on a few occasions which helped me to draw out points. Of course, my footwork is horrible which is another issue that I would need to address as a fundamental, but positioning wise I thought I did quite well.
What to work on
1) Serve Points Won
Even though I won some free points off my 1st Serve, my 1st Serve % was low and the % of my 2nd Serves Won was also poor. I need to get more 1st Serves in and also strengthen my 2nd Serve, or at least prepare better after hitting a 2nd.
2) Unforced Errors
I think both of us could work on minimising our error count as we gave away quite a lot of free points and key moments of the game.
