From 3:30 on dude's completely shifted, spiritually and physically, into maximum overdrive....... but there was never a change in volume, pitch, accent of notes, etc. That's the kind mastery of self-control that sends a mortal chill down your spine.....

This is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard and these last 4 minutes are just stellar. Congrats on being part of a masterpiece, Anup, you killed it.
I simply cannot get through this without welling up with pure emotion...chills, goosebumps, pupil dilation, tears, and one huge exhalation after the final note rings out. Every brilliant musician involved in the creation of Devin's opus magnum "Empath" is an absolute inspiration. Anup, your commitment to the true meaning of this song shines through in your brilliant performance.
To be fair, the drums are on point for 0:00:00--2:03:00 of the 2-CD-version of Empath But yeah, this part of Singularity did stand out as exceptionally awesome
Writing rhythm parts has always been one of Devy's stronger suits. Just look at the stuff on SYL's Alien or DTP's Addicted. It's heavily rhythm-oriented.
The top of this last section in drums part make me feel like a tabla routine played on the drum set , this is so great and Anup is playing each note so clean and detach , he make you understand that each note have the same importance in the construction of the song , rejoice , love , peace , we are all together here on planet earth and universe .
About once a week I come back to this video to watch it again, it has so much happy energy. One of the top 5 drum videos of all time ever. Spectacular!
I could watch this a million times and not get bored of it. The power he plays with in this song is fantastic and seeing him lose himself in the music is just fantastic. So awesome…thanks for the video!
Well, it's not a perfect correlation, but the proggier music gets, the less mainstream it tends to be. And emotion in music has a lot to do with how we've learned via society to feel about it (minor = sad, major = happy, dissonance = anxiety, etc.). So, our learned associations get challenged by unfamiliar rhythms and we might not know how to feel about it. This song/section has wacky polymetric drumming, but it still achieves a really high level of emotion. I listen to lots of prog that I think is emotional, but the drums in this song are particularly amazing.
This is literally my favorite section on the entire album, the drums are soooo massive. The "through the storm" part gives me shivers EVERY time I listen to this.
Anup, I’ve been a Devin fan since the early SYL days, and have traveled across the country to see him perform. Empath and Singularity in particular hit my soul in a very special place. THANK YOU for your (very gifted) part in this musical journey. I hope to see you play someday and shake your hand in person.
@@asdrummer2008 I've been a lover of weird grooves and meters for many years but I can't even wrap my brain around what the patterns might be for that part! Phenomenal job.
There is something about this part of Singularity ... the 1:16 point with the incredible syncopation is stunning ... then starting at about 2:25 (after the goosebumps) it gives me an intense feeling of gratitude and optimism. That's insane. I just feel it! Bravo Devin and bravo Anup!!
It has happened! The titans of Prog Metal have come together to make a masterpiece! Anup, Samus, and jazzy Agren, all playing with Devin to make an awesome album. What a treat! Great job Anup! You killed it on this track!
I love Empath from start to finish whenever I sit down to enjoy it on my rig. But “Singularity” is such an amazing piece of work......I love the journey of it and the end section that you play here is my favourite part of it......it’s soul stirring. And I still come back here to watch this on a regular basis.....just love your playing here. Thank you Anup for sharing your talents on Empath.......you absolutely killed it.
Devin Townsends music hasn't hit me this hard since Terria...just realized cause Gene Hoglan was drumming on that album. This pattern is ridiculous, can't get enough
That is my favorite part of the entire album! It gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it. Anup, your playing is f'ing brilliant man! I can see why Devin wanted you on Empath. And now I'm a fan. Time to go discover more music with Anup on the drums.
After listening and watching UA-cam videos since the album’s release, I can definitively say Anup is my favorite of the 3 drummers present on the albums. Just his overall approach appeals to me most
here we are on another level of rhythmic conception. because the hard part is being creative to the point of conceiving this rhythm, not playing it. probably many nowadays can play it, but no one would have thought of it. this is art
This whole album is amazing, and this part in particular is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever laid down. Simply breathtaking, thanks for posting this! I love it, and your drumming is outstanding here!
Although the album doesn't work for me as a whole, it has some flat-out brilliant moments. This is one of them that I appreciate even more now. It is amazing how the dynamics of playing is built up. Insanely amazing power playing.
Man finally a song I can get into from this album... the others released so far haven't been hitting me hard like Devin's stuff usually does. Anup played some stuff here I'd never thought to do and just nailed the vibe of that song completely and perfectly. Top job man... respect! 🤘😈🤘
First off all, this album and the drumming on it is just incredible. It is rare for an album to make it into my "masterpiece" list upon first listen. Empath has achieved that! Thanks for showing how you play this drum part. Now I want to challenge myself to learn it too!
on one hand, the artistry and nuance here is just breathtaking on the other, I am crossing "Sastry's Drum Heads" off the list of things I would ever want to be reincarnated as
Fantastic job - was also nice to hear Devin say such nice things about you, your drumming, your editing & production skills and I hope it opens even more doors for you and your career! Stay humble! 😄
