- Ben Kentish speaks to one pro-Palestinian protester, Marie Adele Grosso, who was arrested at Columbia University during anti-Israel demonstrations.
Police have stormed the campuses of two US universities after pro-Palestine protests descended into chaos.
The protesters had taken over a university building called Hamilton Hall and barricaded themselves inside.
After making the arrests, police said that the protest had put the public, students and staff at risk.
Police commissioner Edward Caban said students had tried to lock officers out of Hamilton Hall.

The fact that this is an Ivy League student is mind blowing
She's a professional protester and victim , I wish her parents could see what their money is being used for by paying large fees for her education but she is here living in a tent pretending to be upset about anything she doesn't like
Most of these kids have grown up in a political and intellectual bubble and have never been challenged in this way before. Social media echo chambers make complex thinking very difficult. If a priori you're told that everyone falls into suppressor/suppressed categories, and that all subsequent political equations factor from that dichotomy, then any behavior is defensible on the part of a "suppressed" culture against a "suppressor" culture. Of course the ultimate irony is that, if this young woman were in Palestine, her ability to voice her opinion and protest would be, to say the least, limited. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you . . . .

"Love your neighbor as yourself". I guess are foreign words to you. The only way conflicts can be settled is if someone in the fight steps up and shows some empathy. These students are trying to model that empathy and shame Israel and our government into doing the same. Palestinian struggles since '48 have never been acknowledged by Israel or its allies.

That's actually true. Hamas campaigned for democratic elections in the West Bank in 2021 because there was a chance they could win. They're very pro-Democracy when it favors them. Afterwards, not so much.

Actually, I disagree. This girl was smart and well spoken. The times she stumbled, it was because she was trying avoid traps. I one occasion, she was smart enough to ask for time to gather her thoughts. The problem was that the dude was smarter and was able to easily point out her B.S. I'm an American living in Germany. I have a fair amount of contact with German university students and they look at this stuff and are absolutely flabbergasted; they teach ACTUAL history in German schools.

They have a reputation around the world for being centres of academic excellence but that reputation will become tarnished over time and eventually there’ll come a shake-out where the passengers get rejected. I am a retired educator -- this is a college student without a cogent train of thought. She has absolutely no clue what she is talking about -- a incredible lack of knowledge of history. There’s a legitimate desire, by the local Arab population in the region, to establish a Palestinian state. Arguably, that state already exists: it’s Jordan. But OK, they want another Palestinian state. Who are we to deny them their desire.
That still has no connection with the facts he is enumerating.
Whatever you think or believe, there has in fact never existed, until the creation of Jordan arguably, an independent Palestinian state.
