Something that took me a long time to realize about the saving Cid thing. When you enter the house, you always see Cid moving into the bed from the left side for some reason. As a kid, I thought this was some weird mistake in character programming or something. But if you think about it: the secret passage to the basement is on that side of the house. With the raft. Cid was going into the basement, despite his illness and weakness, to work on building a raft for Celes. That’s why he can die so suddenly; he’s working himself to the bone because he doesn’t *actually* believe it’s all hopeless. He wants Celes to have a future.
There's some great details hidden in the game that are easy to miss: Locke only starts to care about Terra when he finds out she has amnesia, Celes throwing the bouquet in the opera is mirrored during her suicide attempt, Locke patches up Interceptor in Thamasa, setting up him patching up the bird in the WoR.
Yeah from FF10 onwards expect the Vs episodes to be whole seasons worth long with the MMOs of FF11 and FF14 not to the mention the expanded universes of FF12, 13 and 15. FF7 will likely been another long one too if you factor in it's expanded universe too.
So many funny moments of Johnny dare explaining every future FF games. The history of FF9 showing many Easter egg references to previous FF game along with hilarious commercials for it. FFX where it's early creation was said before 2000 along with the Beta version mentioning a concept that would eventually be a idea for Lost Odyssey. FF13 and FFXV history of their Behind the development that cause friction and further delay's. FF12's entire story narrative where you could honestly compare some characters narrative to Star Wars Episode IV. And of course the funny Blocky Polygons of FF7 clearly telling you in their faces that FF7 was meant to be on the N64.
At first I was impressed that he finally beat his "longest video" record. Then, I was impressed that his plot summary alone rivaled Sonic 06's entire run time.
@@JJ_R At the same time though, his Balan Wonderworld review wasn’t structured like one of his normal VS. videos. It was just like his original review for FF XIV, more of a discussion rather than a traditional review.
22:30 "You can't beat that coincidence." I did. On my first playthrough I named the characters different names. I accidentally named Celes Maria. No, I had no knowledge of the game prior. Beat that.
There is a youtuber named Nintendocaprisun who when playing Secret of Mana named the main character Tim not knowing the game features a character named Timothy
I never skip the plot summary, I love hearing you describe the story Johnny, from the actual plots to you geeking out from time to time in certain games, that and I love to watch the whole video your voice is so soothing man.
Or... "You know how in other games, a cataclysm happens thousands of years before the game starts and you get to learn how the new world operates? Well let's put that cataclysm in the middle of the game and let the players slap the shit out of the dude that caused it pretty much straight away." Not only did Kefka NOT win like everyone remains desperate to say, he wasn't even as effective in his attempt as other legendary figures that can mess the world up before you boot up the game.
33:46 I totally understand how Celeste's suicide attempt was extremely important for gaming, specially considering the era. It was not everyday that a "game for children" could channel actual emotions on people, and put that on the forefront. This was video games taking it's first baby steps as a form of art (not wanting to sound cheesy and pretentious but sounding anyway) Video games started going past the "game" aspect of just master the rules and win. It became more, it actually started making people FEEL things and make that it's main goal. Crazy to think they'd pull so much of that emotional impact again later with FF7
From what I see it, I considered Final Fantasy VI as a movie. The fact that characters are well thought out and consistently going through from beginning to end credits, it's probably the best story of entire Final Fantasy franchise, period.
Taking that leap of faith too seriously eh? I never really cared but then I know people religiously obsess over stuff about this (or teen pregnancy with Duane/Katarin and foster mother Terra, guess it's the world of ruined condoms lol). I'm just hoping Cyan's Bushido isn't as slow as a snail though old mobile let others take turns which is an improvement. Just hard for me to access quality when people carry on but I now just check challenges (FFT final boss did not get a turn vs me) or speed runs for knowledge rather than go by propaganda "best".
Games being for children was a facade, and engineered by Nintendo during the rise of the NES in America (and likely Hiroshi Yamauchi mainly) for unclear reasons. This is important to such realities as the main reason Pac-Man was not only a success, but became a household name, was primarily because it appealed to women and businessmen (among others); all audiences traditionally unimpressed by gaming.
@@osurpless it's not a facade; it's a ghetto for people who didn't do the research, much like cartoons (tv tropes animation ghetto) or anyone who believes anime/yugioh is seriously a children's card game despite the chase cards and pay to win mentality. Yugioh master duel tries to force you to pay for those ultra rares with their gem system to simulate gambling. Things changed from now though censorship codes still exist (Sombrero Mario 🤣 let alone game and watch native feather taken out). I'll never forget the outrage of Tomodachi life for not having same sex couples. Just a game and activists who have no life stormed it.
@@osurpless the reasons are very clear: marketing. For years video games were in the computer section in stores, afterwards they were placed in the toy isles and marketed on TV like toys, hugely boosting sales when compared to the Atari/Calicovision/Intellevision era.
39:29 I played Final Fantasy VI for the first time in 2021, which felt like a very dark time for my own wellbeing. It is fitting that I finished this game in December as it managed to tell me a message that I needed to hear, and it concluded such a dreary time of my life.
Gameplay-wise, the various rom hacks (Brave New World, Return of the Dark Sorcerer) accomplished much the same for me throughout early 2021. In many ways, they evoked the magic of playing the game for the first time in ‘94. Looking forward to T edition to that same end, but need to finish the latest update to FFIV Ultima as well.
I can say the same. I started the game in 2019, but put it down because of a life event that occurred. I saw a video of it and was reminded that I had it. Picked it back up in 2021, and couldn’t put it down. The fantastic characters, the phenomenal music, and just experiencing again a game where the lack of graphics is balanced by the power of your own imagination interpreting the cutscenes. It truly was an experience. Those that get to play it for the first time, I do have a feeling of jealousy towards.
haven't watched yet (just came out lol) but just wanted to say Johnny if you're reading this I've been watching you for like 5 years and you're one of my favorite creators its been really great seeing you grow as a creator
10:14 Actually, the whole "accidentally giving up her child" was just a mistranslation in the SNES version, presumably because the original was too dark and cruel. In the original Japanese version and the GBA translation, he just murders the poor woman in cold blood and takes her baby for himself. There are other moments like this that were also edited in the original SNES translation, which is why I hope the upcoming Pixel Perfect version uses the GBA translation.
Johnny the fact that you put so much love and care into every video you make means the world to me. You are one of the very few youtubers who can get me to watch a video about a series I know nothing about and make me interested about said series. So yeah, just thank you for introducing me to a bunch of cool shit 🤟
I don’t skip the plot summary myself because I don’t see myself playing these on my own anytime soon so I’d get to hear how the story goes under the eyes of someone passionately explaining how much they love it.
As someone who started watching since Month of Metroid (that was back when I was in middle school, and now I'm a fully grown adult in the military God where did the time go?) and has watched all your videos and streams since then, watching you grow as a content creator I can definitively say that you are my favorite one on this platform and it isn't even close. I'm beyond happy that you finally topped your Sonic 06 VS video and it's a game you're passionate about and love to death. Can't wait for the Final Fantasy 7 video, my first and favorite Final Fantasy. Cheers to you.
Dang he really broke the hour cap for this one! I haven’t even divulged into the video yet but this is excites me. Not long after FFV too! Guess having Lewis as a co-editor alleviates a lot of time for recording and such.
I really got to give you props, Johnny. I knew nothing about FFVI before watching this video and the way you told the story where you gave explanation, humor, and slowed the pace down for the more somber moments got me really invested in the story and that hour passed fast. Bravo, man.
1st ever Final Fantasy I beat, thanks to my dad telling me to play it since it was his all time favorite FF. Unfortunately he's no longer here anymore but he got to see me beat it when he was. Hope your doing alright Dad and get to see this video .
@@pancholopez8829 It's a lot of context clues, but basically all his friends and family are dead, he is the last surviving member of his race. That spot he is standing in the world of Ruin is also the spot the (probably) female Moogle was standing that was also right next to him in the early fight with the moogles. Some guess that was his girlfriend/love interest and she's dead, having given the Moogle Charm to Mog to protect him and then died herself.
@@sanddry738 He might have to. The remake’s story directly involves meta-commentary on characters literally trying to rewrite their fate from the PS1 game’s outcome.
@@benwasserman8223 bruh, if you want to tag for spoilers you have to make a bigger space so that people need to press the read more button. like this SPOILER Sephiroth Killed Aerith
@@Kaimax61 Ok i cut that part out. But the point still stands: you have to know what the remake is subverting to understand how this new plot fits into the classic one.
This was a delight to watch after coming back from my night shift. Great video, John. Only played this game once bout 15 years back via the PS1 port & thoroughly enjoyed my experience. At the time I hadn't known anyone else who played VI but hearing your take and thoughts, especially on the 2nd act where I recall there was something that felt lacking for me, post Celes scene and thought did I do something wrong or misremember that part, so hearing you talk about it and myself being taken back to that part of the game alongside opening up my memory on it, it helped understanding what it was that left me like that and I appreciate it. Again, great video dude!
My favorite game of all time. Even if all the subsequent FFs are technically superior, I still awe at the narrative, presentation and emotional resonance that this game conveyed for the hardware it was on. It truly transcended the SNES itself
Ah, yes. My Favorite FF. I always loved the character stories, all of them being very engaging to me. Terra was always my favorite character, and I always had her and Edgar, which I always loved his tools, even late game. And that boss battle theme is still my all time favorite boss theme of any game. I always over leveled by coincidence just because I would always give every character all the spells from all the magicite. Can't wait for this game to get the pixel enhancement remake.
On a more basic gameplay front I'll always appreciate the job system approach of FFV a bit more, or even the fixed roles of FFIV, but in terms of the story and the big cast of characters within it, FFVI is the peak of the series, at least of the classic era.
To me, the second half is what truly makes this game work. I love the theme of each and every one getting over their depression, finding purpose and joining you for the epic finale. I love the atmosphere and the open-ended structure. The first half was good, but it always felt like a slightly better FF2 to me with the empire vs rebel thing, no crystals, etc. But since it was all buildup, it makes perfect sense.
Sometimes, I regret how much time I spend on UA-cam but watching an hour long Somecallmejohnny video that's entertaining, informative, and no filler? I do not regret spending an hour like that in the slightest.
It was a glorious day when Johnny blessed us with a video that was over the 1 hour mark. Seriously, I binge watched this man’s videos since 2020 and Johnny does amazing things!
Johnny got this up less than two weeks after the Final Fantasy V review. He must REALLY love this game. Can’t wait for the Pixel Remaster soundtrack. I hope the opera scene has actual singing, that would be amazing. Edit: IT HAS SINGING
That’s what the Distant Worlds performances from 2010 on are for, and while I appreciate them a great deal, they feel more like an interpretation than something in-game.
All through my childhood I had NO IDEA you could save Cid. Until when I was in my mid 20s or so, revisiting the game after so many childhood playthroughs. And I saved him BY ACCIDENT. I was actually getting annoyed because his health was improving and I wanted to just get the tedious 'fishing minigame' part over with. Then to my shock he actually lived. I agree though that story wise, Cid dying is more interesting. The scenario where he lives feels honestly tacked on. He doesn't play into the ending, he doesn't have a scene where you can bring the party back and talk to him or something. He just hands over the raft and does nothing. Pretty underwhelming.
When it comes to Johnny’s plot heavy reviews I usually watch through those videos as that feels like the meat and potatoes of his longer videos: A plot synopsis/Analysis and it’s interesting to see him describe his feelings about a plot and it’s characters even if I don’t fully agree with his points, like on the existence of Xion in KH 358/2 Days and Solid Snake’s struggles that he goes through in both MGS1 and in MGS4. Johnny I’ve been subscribed to your channel since your Sonic Adventure review and thanks to both your Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear marathons I’ve been a fan of those series. Thank you so much and looking forward to your Mortal Kombat retrospective later this year and your eventual Devil May Cry marathon that’s one of my favorite series of all time, keep up the awesome work my friend!
My favorite game of all time! It left such a huge impression on me when I first played it in 1994, and it still amazes me what they were able to accomplish with this game back then on a small SNES cartridge. Incredibly endearing characters, a great story and fascinating world, an outstanding villain, some of the best scenes & moments out of any game, and god-tier music! To add on to that, it's just a seriously fun game to play as well -- I love the esper system, the relics, and multi-party dungeons. I think the huge cast in this game is part of what makes it so special, even if some of the characters don't get quite the same amount of development as others. I pray that one day this game gets a proper remake! Seeing scenes like the opera scene, the phantom train, Darill's tomb, the Catastrophe, just.. any scene with Kefka, on modern platforms would be phenomenal!
The pinnacle of Final Fantasy and my favorite childhood game. I can't say what others have already said...but I will share this. I was obsessed (this was my second FF after FF1) and I got dragged to the beach for summer vacation. I took my SNES and my FF3 cart looking forward to the week ahead. My mom stopped at a thrift store along the way and inside...I found the Final Fantasy 3 Complete Forbidden Secrets book for like $10. I begged and cried until my mom bought it and I read it for about 3 hours until we got to our destination. I found the chainsaw that night. GREAT memories from a great game.
I finally had the chance to watch this all the way through, and I gotta say, your ramble about your nostalgic connection to this game perfectly summarizes how a lot of people (myself included) feel about the first big rpgs they got into as kids. In my case, that being the first two Pokemon Mystery Dungeons. Still looking forward to the eventual Sky video, btw.
Incredible game, I first finished it on my SNES Mini a few years ago and I was shocked how it not only lived up to the internet hype, but surpassed it. Can't wait to watch this.
Wait, doesn't that mean all of the videos Johnny made since 06 never actually happened? By your logic, this is the equivalent of Elise blowing out Solaris' flame before it could split into Mephiles and Iblis.
The excitement I felt seeing this in my subscriptions and seeing that one hour length cannot be described in words, and it was as much of a delight as I thought it would be. All your videos are amazing and high in quality but you can really tell when it's a game you're passionate about, and it's always extra fun to watch those
This is by far the best video you've made in my opinion. You managed to keep me engaged for an hour, even though I'm not an RPG guy in the slightest. I've been marathoning your Versus videos recently, and I wanted to thank you. I'm going through a difficult time recently, and your laid back videos make me feel at home. Seriously, thank you so much.
For the Strago talking Shadow's past thing, its ON THE CARTRIDGE but not implemented that Strago asks Shadow to drop his mask just once so he can know, "for her sake" and then is satisfied once he does.
Great vid, my favorite game of all time and was an enjoyable watch :). A couple things to throw out: - Agreed on the World of Ruin's shortcoming being a lack of character-specific dialogue. I'd chalk it up to technical limitations myself; adding those moments of optional dialogue in terms of event coding has the game run a check on your current party members to see who is in the party, and if there's someone there who has different dialogue, it loads a separate dialogue box. If I had to guess, either due to time or data space, they stopped doing this after a while. I'd loved to see this expanded with mods to allow the characters to have more specific interactions. - I'd say that Kefka's inaction and simplicity of motivation is part of the game's theme. The second half of the game is all about the characters finding the will to live and what makes live worth living, but Kefka, symbolizing nihilism and despair, is devoid of such things. He won, he got what he wanted, and...he has nothing left to do but blast the ashes of the world when he gets bored, and wiat for the party get to him. I agree he's not the most complex or well-written villain, not at all, but he works well in VI's narrative to embody the game's central themes and contrast them against the antagonist, giving them an external threat to mirror their internal conflict. - Agreed 100% the game is too easy and broken. It's one of the game's few blemishes, character skills become obsolete and most enemies can be wiped out in one round. My preferred way to break things was the Offering and Genji Glove on Locke with the Atma Weapon and ValiantKnife; since both weapons ignore defense, Locke gets 8 ridiculously powerful attacks a turn, and you can cast Quick on him to boot. - Terra having more abilities when she's riding Magitek Armor is actually explained in supplementary materials. There's some passage in a guidebook that mentions only someone with a magical infusion can tap into the full potential of Magitek Armor, so that's why Terra has more moves. That SHOULD mean the party gets those expanded skills in the World of Ruin once they've had espers, but that would probably be a pain in the ass to code. - The Men in Tights clip was hilarious. Long live FF6! Cannot wait for the Pixel Remaster release.
Hey, its cool to see you here! I just finished watching this for the first time since I figured I would need some time to fully sit through all of this. All in all, you've made great points about the game and maybe you can take some credit that your romhack of FF6 attempted to make the game more challenging?
Final Fantasy VI, the very first RPG I ever played. It remains, not just my favorite JRPG, my favorite Final Fantasy, or my favorite SNES game, but my favorite game of all time. I may have ended up spending far, far more time on XIV than I ever could on VI, but the memories I have from VI, when I simply knew it as III, I cherish to this day. And that final bit at the end, where you have the VI box knocking against the Sonic '06 cartridge, had me snerking so hard.
I was given this game on my 10th birthday right after its initial release. I was so sucked into it when I first played it. When I beat it for the first time, I looked at the time played on my main save slot... it read 71 hours, and I remember thinking, "WOW, I will never spend that much time in a video game again! That took forever, but what a story." Boy, was I wrong! It still holds the slot for my favorite game ever. Mainly leaning on it was the first RPG I ever played by myself all at my own pace. Oh, the hours grinding Dino Forest. Great video, my man.
Trivia for the next video! In Chrono Trigger during the Dream Team/Dev ending, Tetsuya Nomura can be found in one of the rooms and when you talk to him, he goes "Game Over!" And blacks out your screen and the sound until you hit a button. It's a fun gag that really got me the first time I played it.
@@ahriman0586 I think he's already said he'd dedicate a video per FFXIV expansion because he loves that game so much. Unless his plans have changed since he said that then we'll get at least 5 FFXIV reviews.
This was my gift to myself for passing my exams back in 2002. Yeah it was the Playstation version but I didn't care. It was worth the wait . . . especially since I went cold turkey on gaming to revise for said exams, and FF6 was the first game I'd played in five months!
"And, I don't wanna make a joke about this, this is fucking heartbreaking." *_Later..._* "You get to see how far Celes has fallen- _literally, in this case_ "
I could tell you were getting just a tad emotional at the end of the video, but that's to be expected. Final Fantasy VI has been one of my favourite games from the very first time I played it, up there with Final Fantasy IV and IX. And I know you might not see this Johnny, but thank you for going out of your way to talk about the developers. They deserve as much credit and love for putting hours upon hours of work into the product we know and love.
This game was my first RPG and the reason i improved my learning of the english languaje. i stil feel teary eyed when i listen to the ending after the long battle with kefka. I had to translate the dialog to my siblings and it was one of my happy memories sharing my love for this game with them. Final Fantasy 6 is the best RPG i have ever played. You did a great video that made me remeber those times, I also used the jump to avoid being killed by the magic master. Thanks
ugh man idk why the ending of this video, where johnny is just sincerely talking about how much he LOVES this game, and how he really hopes we enjoy ourselves if we decide to play it, it just makes me feel a certain kind of way. just the way he said "because i certainly do...every single time." CHILLS. its such a weird thing but i love hearing about something that johnny truly loves. the way he explains things is just the best. sorry if this was long and over dramatic, but damn man, so glad to be a part of this channel
Aww, it's so cool that you've bested the run time of the Sonic 06 video, where you talked about all the things that were wrong with it, where here you got to talk about all the things you loved. I've only ever played FFXV and VIIRemake but the menu tune at the end made me emotional, I can't even imagine how touching it must be for people who have been playing for so much longer than I have. Always appreciate your content, man.
I can’t wait to play this game. I’ve beat FFI and FFIV, and currently making my way through FFVII. Probably gonna play FFV before as it’s on Steam. I really like this series so far. I know this is a top 5 game in the series, so I’m looking forward to it
@@haroldhall1517 then having an Octopath remake is pointless. It should be in 3D if they are remaking it unless they want to waste man power. FFVI looks fine how it is.

1:30 oh yea, that's the good stuff. Put that music right into my veins 37:26 a monument to non-existent. That's what sets Kefka apart from other villains.
Theres something about the ending that is so satisfying. Seeing such a passionate review about a game you truly love push aside an infamous game that held a channel record and lived in "channel lore" for so long just felt so right
Congrats on your longest review yet, John! I only skip the spoiler sections on videos that I deliberately intend to play and FFVI is one of those games. I'll probably wait to see how people feel about the pixel remaster as that seems like the most accessible version for me, but however I play this, I'm looking forward to it.
I remember watching the sonic 06 review for the first time. I was 12 or 13 years old. I discovered your channel because I watched chimeyswift and Johnny did animations for his channel. I’m now 20 years old and in my second year of college. I grew up on this channel. I love you John here’s to the next record breaking review 👏🏼
I’ve played a little bit of this one on the snes classic, it’s good but I’m not used to these old rpgs and have trouble finding my way around sometimes
Keep in mind when these RPGs were first released; reliable "guides" were rarer than diamonds, there was no internet for quick simple tips, the game could/would severely punish you for entering certain areas too early (with zero warning) and you often had to rely on hearsay from the playground if you ever got stuck or wanted the "best" content (Hence the infamous Mew under the truck rumor lol!). Times have certainly changed.
Really? If anything, it's really easy to find the places you need to go given how linear the game is in its first half. By this time getting lost in a console JRPG was pretty damn hard given how linear they were getting and how the npcs would guide you to where you needed to go.
still blows me away the guy who wrote FF6 was also the guy who decided to add Time Ghosts & 3 Extra Sephiroths to FF7 Remake because ,and I missquote, "who would want to play an Old Game?"
I love Final Fantasy VI my second favorite after IV. This game continues to make me cry because of all the emotional scenes. The game is broken beyond belief and you touched on it with the gem box/economizer combo. The berserk/vanish combo can be pretty useful too on certain bosses. I'll admit I go get a bit bored in the World of Ruin with no clear direction, but overall I still love this game as much as did when my older and younger brother bought back in the day from a garage sale. This game will always hold a special place in my heart.
The most underrated final fantasy game. Out of all of the games I feel that final fantasy 6 is truly the object best game in the series. I love 4 I truly do but 6 has comedy, emotion, action, and likeable characters in spades. And on top of that the story actually has stakes whereas in ff4 everything works out in the end in 6 you basically lose and the villain wins. You have to work your way back up there to fight kefka. It just truly is a game that was nearly impossible to top and I think it's better than 7 which is an extremely hot take.
Is it really underrated when the Final Fantasy 6 versus Final Fantasy 7 war, i mean, discussion is still going on after two decades? There are other games in the series that get much less focus from fans and Square itself deserving of being called underrated.
FF6 is NOT underrated and saying it's better than FF7 isn't a "hot take". The amount of FF6 purists Vs FF7 elitists battles you see all over the FF community is hilarious and very common not to mention FF6 is universally agreed upon to be a popular fan favourite game among many RPG fans. To the normie audience sure FF6 is underrated but that's true for most FF games not named FF7. If anything FF3, FF5 and FF12 are more underrated (within the RPG community) compared to most other FFs also lets not forget the massive negative backlash FF13 received.
@@jaretco6423 I don't agree that FF7 is great, i consider it one of the weakest entries in the series. A game that i have tried multiple times to get into it but for several reasons i just can't. It's a game that i have never understood the hype and probably never will understand. Maybe if it had been my first FF game i would be liking it today, what with the massive nostalgia googles. But given that i got into the franchise in my late teen years and i had no issue enjoying games like FF4 and FF6, i think i just don't like how FF7 is overall made.
@@okagron it beats FFIV. I mean the materia system is really cool and I think the characters are great. Haven’t play FFVI, but in all honesty it doesn’t seem as good as FFVII just from the gameplay I’ve seen. The graphics are phenomenal tho I got to give it that over FFVII
Talking about a game you love for over an hour like this truly means there is something special about it, as if everything aligns perfectly for it, whether it be the story, gameplay, music, and/or everything in between is a real passion for that one game you hold dearly. Now, what could possibly top Final Fantasy VI for longest Vs. video? I guess we'll just have to wait for that answer.

:-O thanks for telling me this. In 20 years i find more and more to love about it
There's some great details hidden in the game that are easy to miss: Locke only starts to care about Terra when he finds out she has amnesia, Celes throwing the bouquet in the opera is mirrored during her suicide attempt, Locke patches up Interceptor in Thamasa, setting up him patching up the bird in the WoR.

*Round 2 of PS3 06 coming in with the chair*
Unlike Sonic 06, Johnny loves this game. And I thought Final Fantasy 7 would be longer
This decade is finally looking up, eh?
I never skip the plot summary, I love hearing you describe the story Johnny, from the actual plots to you geeking out from time to time in certain games, that and I love to watch the whole video your voice is so soothing man.
World of Ruin summarized:
"If we can't save the world, then we'll damn well avenge it."
*Insert Avengers Theme*
Pretty much the first endgame
Or...
"You know how in other games, a cataclysm happens thousands of years before the game starts and you get to learn how the new world operates? Well let's put that cataclysm in the middle of the game and let the players slap the shit out of the dude that caused it pretty much straight away."
Not only did Kefka NOT win like everyone remains desperate to say, he wasn't even as effective in his attempt as other legendary figures that can mess the world up before you boot up the game.
@@CrashSable He did win, but it just didn't last.
@@amosdeguzman9980 he won the battle, but lost the war
A one hour long SomecallmeJohnny review, this is a historic moment

@@MRWINDYMETHANE I have and he’s very chill and easygoing. I hope you get to meet him someday!
Watching the sprites' actions, his murdering her is blatent, not simply implied.
Spoiler alert: It does.
Johnny the fact that you put so much love and care into every video you make means the world to me.
Mog is actually really heartbreaking. His story is entirely context, but is probably one of the saddest to me.
Been a long time since I played the game. How so?
@@pancholopez8829 It's a lot of context clues, but basically all his friends and family are dead, he is the last surviving member of his race. That spot he is standing in the world of Ruin is also the spot the (probably) female Moogle was standing that was also right next to him in the early fight with the moogles. Some guess that was his girlfriend/love interest and she's dead, having given the Moogle Charm to Mog to protect him and then died herself.
So glad to see Johnny best his review length record post-Sonic 06. Can’t wait to see what he does when the FFVII review comes out.

I think each game does their own thing really well, but this one just has some magic to it. I mean so does FFVII, but still.
On a more basic gameplay front I'll always appreciate the job system approach of FFV a bit more, or even the fixed roles of FFIV, but in terms of the story and the big cast of characters within it, FFVI is the peak of the series, at least of the classic era.
nope, I never skip plot summaries
I wanna hear the whole thing, so I enjoy your videos as a whole, no skipping plots for me
Johnny's way too entertaining to skip even ads.
It finally happened, the longest review in the Johnny vs Series!
Sometimes, I regret how much time I spend on UA-cam but watching an hour long Somecallmejohnny video that's entertaining, informative, and no filler? I do not regret spending an hour like that in the slightest.
Better than anything from Hollywood in ages.
It is always a good day when Johnny post a new video.
Besides the obvious throne toppling, this whole video is just perfect on it's own. Kudos Johnny, love everything you keep doing.
It was a glorious day when Johnny blessed us with a video that was over the 1 hour mark. Seriously, I binge watched this man’s videos since 2020 and Johnny does amazing things!
Final fantasy VI is an absolute masterpiece. This is about as good as it gets for a 2D turn based JRPG
This game and Chrono Trigger are basically the apex of 2D JRPG. Just phenomenal games AND soundtracks for the time.
Johnny got this up less than two weeks after the Final Fantasy V review. He must REALLY love this game.
Can’t wait for the Pixel Remaster soundtrack. I hope the opera scene has actual singing, that would be amazing.
Edit: IT HAS SINGING
I heard somewhere that they're gonna go full-on Octopath for the Opera scene, so I'd imagine that it's likely gonna get _really_ special attention.
My Favorite Final Fantasy LET'S GO!
Umaro wrecks cultist tower
19:36 This is literally just the plot to Shadow of Colossus

Great vid, my favorite game of all time and was an enjoyable watch :). A couple things to throw out:
- Agreed on the World of Ruin's shortcoming being a lack of character-specific dialogue.
So long Sonic 06, long live the new Johnny VS King!
I was given this game on my 10th birthday right after its initial release. I was so sucked into it when I first played it.
When I beat it for the first time, I looked at the time played on my main save slot... it read 71 hours, and I remember thinking, "WOW, I will never spend that much time in a video game again! That took forever, but what a story."
Boy, was I wrong! It still holds the slot for my favorite game ever. Mainly leaning on it was the first RPG I ever played by myself all at my own pace. Oh, the hours grinding Dino Forest.
Great video, my man.
Great vid as always! If anyone wants to hear Johnny's extended thoughts on this game, I highly recommend watching his lets play on the SGB channel.
I never skip the plot summary since you always manage to make them really entertaining.
Same, I don't even like rpg's or Sonic but he can make anything interesting and entertaining.

I’ve played a little bit of this one on the snes classic, it’s good but I’m not used to these old rpgs and have trouble finding my way around sometimes
Dito.
Sabin suplexing the train will never not be funny
still blows me away the guy who wrote FF6 was also the guy who decided to add Time Ghosts & 3 Extra Sephiroths to FF7 Remake because ,and I missquote, "who would want to play an Old Game?"
I have the same feelings 6 is way better than 7
Is it really underrated when the Final Fantasy 6 versus Final Fantasy 7 war, i mean, discussion is still going on after two decades?
I feel like THIS is the best final fantasy game.
I mean 7 is great, but this one is just so amazing!
It’s great and all, but 7 and 10 had a better story and characters
Chagrin
