Remember when he had a conversation with two little Jackie's and he said '10 years is a long time'. I don't think he wanted to save Will cause he was in love with Elizabeth too. If I remember right at the end of Caribbean 5 he watched them both kissing and he was annoyed.

Depp had always said that one of the influences that he used to help create the Sparrow character was Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. He had said that since the first film. Depp was the one to convince Richards to actually appear as a Pirate. However, he was supposed to appear in "Dead Man's Chest" but his turing schedule with the Stones prevented it. He finally did appear - as Capt Teague - in this film. So, Jack's dad is a Rolling Stone.
Also, the whole "sea turtles" thing was obviously a made-up embellishment. It was used to enhance Jack's "mystery" in the first film until he was stranded on the island again, this time with Elizabeth. Jack had to tell her that he was only there for three days before rum runners came by and he bartered his way on their ship. Rum runners that are no longer in business - "probably have your friend Norrington to thank for that", as he said while finding what was left of the rum stash.

You know, every time I watch this movie, I find out more and more about Calypso and Davy Jones. Not just their backstory, but present motivations. Davy Jones is still extremely angry at being stood up after ten years and all that, yeah, but he still can't help but love her. He thought that cutting out his heart would stop these feelings, but it didn't seem to do a darn thing. Because, anger and love are still feelings, and they are very much present in Davy Jones' character, they run too deep to get rid of just like that.
Also, Calypso truly never knew who betrayed her until the very end. Her plan when she was first introduced to William Turner was that she could see the future where he would take Davy Jones' place as Captain of the Flying Dutchman, so she was the one pushing him forward along the path. "A touch of destiny," yeah? However, one thing she thought would be the end result would be that Will would take over the ship and the duties of the oceanic Grim Reaper and ferry the souls of the dead to the other side, and Davy Jones would be free to be with Calypso. As we all saw, because of the fact that Jones was killed to initiate that transfer of power, that happy ending was never going to happen for Calypso. Now, it wasn't a problem to fix a curse and make the heart affix itself back into the captain's chest. She's a goddess with all the power of the ancient sea. It would have been a snap. But, Davy Jones dying wasn't in the plan. You can actually almost feel the shock in the air happen the moment he's stabbed and falls overboard into the maelstrom. The storm begins to calm quickly and she has no reason to keep the fight going between the pirates and the EITC. Her love was lost, her own heart broken, so why should she care anymore?
She could bring him back like she did Barbossa, but he would still be cursed, if not in body, then certainly in spirit. She could probably not change his mind about her betrayal, when she didn't hurt him intentionally.

What bothered me the most is that Flying Dutchman's captain's curse appears to have a VERY obvious loophole. Davy Jones was still bound by the curse and so he could not step on dry land but once every 10 years, however he COULD board any ship he wanted. It's plausible that Will is also bound by the same "rules". So theoretically Will could travel between real world and the afterlife as much as he wanted thus giving him ample opportunity to visit Elizabeth. All she would have to do would be to live on a house boat.

I think the whole "ten years at sea" situation as well as bringing in Calypso the sea goddess is a tie-in of the Odyssey. Granted, good ol' Odysseus was away from home for 20 and that sucks even more, but I think it still works as a reference to an almost forgotten epic.
Watch the next two movies and you'll meet even more of Jack's family 😉

I don't know if it's me and my dirty mind, or if the writers and director intended it to be something a kid wouldn't bat an eye at bun an adult would think twice about it when seeing it. At 4:16, when Elizabeth pulls out that gun, it made me think she hid it inside her, that's why she struggles to pull it out and why Barbosa looks at her and tries to look from where did she pull it out.

In my opinion the scene at 50:33 is one of the greatest shots in movie history. This was one of the first movies I bought on Blu-Ray and it did not disappoint. The bonus features were great too. A lot of behind the scenes of the maelstrom and how they pulled that off with a large amount of practical effects.

The two guys at 50:50 are the two marines we've been seeing in the first movie and this one that were guarding the port and in this movie the chest. They went over to the Black Pearl during the maelstrom battle, slamming into the side of the ship as they swung over. They disguised themselves as pirates, effectively joining the crew. Love those two.

Back in the day Pirates would split silver dollars into 8 pieces, and 1 of these 8 pieces would be called "a piece of 8", also in some places in the US a quarter of a Dollar is called "2 bits" because of this reason 2 pieces being equal to a quarter of a Dollar coin.
