- In this video, Ryan shows you how to install push rods and rocker arms and how to set valve lash on a Chevy 350. He rebuilt this small block Chevy 350 which he pulled out of his 1976 Chevy Camaro for Episode 6 of Burnout. If you want to know more about his Camaro, The Banana Peel, check out Episode 6: • Racing My 1976 Chevy C... and Episode 5: • I Bought My Dream Car,...

You are a life saver I need to clean all my parts and start over do it exactly how you do it
This did go well?
Do exhaust opening on 1 is tdc ? On copression?
I hate doing this. You think I'd be good at it after the first few times but I always have to look it back up
I feel that
So basically you tighten the bolt the same exact way for all of them? You just do it in a certain order?
pretty much
Icon 👍
Can this be done with the Intake still installed?
Yes, it can be a little bit trickier though. You just have to be careful and make sure that the push rods are actually seating properly.
Got it. And the idea for zero lash is right when the rod has no up/down wiggle? Should you be able to still spin them a bit or should that be gone as well?@@TheBurnoutShow
There should still be a bit of spin on them as shown in the video.
Thats one way , but mine s a lot simpler.
👍
It can be done by only rotating the Engine 8 times.
By going by the firing order and setting both valves on that particular cylinder. 🤔
The other way requires alot of turning and tuning- but not in firing order..
There is a much much much easier way to do this
This is a great video. I have a 305 and it had low compression on cylinder 7. I found a bent pushrod and the valve was too tight. I really had no idea how to adjust it, so I left it slightly loose and started the engine without the valve cover. Then I tightened it just enough to make it quiet. I will go through the process as you explained it to ensure all my valves are properly adjusted. Is it okay to do this on a cold engine?
Thank you for the good camera and angles and actually clearly explaining things
You're welcome!
in my case, when cylinder 1 is TDC on compression stroke, the lifter for the intake valve on cylinder 6 is down, but yours is up. any ideas why?
Very professional! And super helpful thank you. What rocker arms did you use?
Your method works! I have a 68 442 Vert with 455 engine and I used this method that you demostrated.
Thanks very much
Glad it helped
Looking to do this on my new-to-me project '79 Camaro with a 350. I think this'll get me right to where I want. I have a knocking in the driver side valve cover that I'm trying to resolve. I'm extremely new and ignorant of most things I'm looking at as of now. I'll be chomping on your other videos soon.
If you've got any potential insight on the knockin, even tho it's a long shot, I'd appreciate hearing it. We think it might be a stuck lifter, but I know we didn't set the lash the right way either yet.
No feeler gauges?
hi , had my 79 out for a ride and oil light came on , knocking noise came in engine, lots of oil in base , oil light still on after it cooled down , thinking bent rod or stuck valve ??? any tips welcomed, thanks in advance
Hello there I'm saw your video how to adjust the rocker arms no oil to my rocket arms I got like 40% of oil pressure but no oil going to my rocket
Am I missing something ? 🤔
Why wouldn't you set both valves while it's on TDC ?
And then turn the engine 90° and set the next cylinder in the firing order ?
And that way you only have to turn the Engine over 8 times.
I've been doing it like that for a long time. 🤷
Hello Sir, could you please tell me, if it‘s possible to do this work on the video with installed intake manifold?
Are locking nuts mandatory or regular nuts okay ?
Hey man are those PRW rockers? I’ve been looking to pull the trigger on those
Rocker pivot balls. Rounded side goes down and the flat side goes to the nut, correct?
That's correct!
I caught that too
I'm trying to set rockers on a 3400 engine and need help
Just wondering man, why didn’t you use poly locks?
I just used the nuts that my rocker arms came with. I’ve got limited budget lol.
True Legend! thx for the quality video
That was terribly confusing and way overcomplicated.
My video or the actual task?
@TheBurnoutShow just the way you tried to describe what to do. I've been a licensed tech for 25 years. I know what you were trying to do but if someone was a beginner, they would be completely lost. There are much easier ways to do this.
@Nathan-bz8zt that’s okay, I’ve had a lot of comments saying that it’s actually very clear and easy to follow. Thanks for your feedback though.
what did you torque the stud to? 25lbs. is it the same for cast iron. thanks good vid
You don't torque the nuts.
You're simply talking the Lash out of the rockers and preloading the lifters.
Turn the nut until you can't feel any slack or up and down movement in the rocker tip and then Turn the nut an additional 3/4 turn.
