Hey Derek! I saw this method before on other videos but no one explains it as plain straightforward as You. Thank You. It's about 30 degrees and snowing here in Germany, so a guy will go and try this on his 460 in the driveway.
My 90 K5 was blowin smoke on startup. After watching this i had the courage to change all the valve seals on the 350. Keep up the great videos, you never know who actually needs to see them!
I can do basic mechanics on most old school cars. One thing I had never tried was adjusting the valves after I had installed some valve seals. I watched this video and tried his method. Car fired right up and ran smooth as silk. That was almost 3 years ago. 1979 Corvette.
I learned that years ago my dad didn't teach me jack so I had to depend on the old hot rodders around the house to show me the tricks ......good stuff Derek love your show
Huuuuuuge thank you! Iv been dickin around for a year with the valves in my 289 and this method has resulted in the best running engine Iv ever had!! THANK YOU!! As a fellow Minnesotan keep the rubber on the road.
I watched countless videos on adjusting the valves on my my 97 Camaro SS 350 LT1 before I stumbled upon this one. It was a lightbulb moment and it made so much sense how you simplified the process. I had over tightened and under tightened rockers and my 350 sounded like a diesel. Followed the procedure outlined and she is purring once again!
This WORKED GREAT! Thanks so much. I tried at least 3 other techniques and still had issues. Tried this and the start started and ran after sitting for over a year with valve timing issues.
I've tried static (by the factory manual) and running (also by an older factory manual iirc), even bought a set of deflectors to prevent oil splash (don't do that, just cut some valve covers if you want to do it running). This method looks like the simplest and most trouble free/idiot proof method. Thank you!
The easiest SBC adjustment. Been using that method forever. Works every time. Edit- I was always taught to soak the lifters in oil first. I guess some do it dry. Soaking has always worked for me.
There is no reason whatsoever to soak lifters. Put some assembly lube on them as you're dropping them in. Adjust the pre-load. Prime the oil pump before initial start-up.
Well, that was the last one I needed to watch. I've now watched all episodes of VGG. Great contact. Love your sense of humor. I'm looking forward to more episodes! Hopefully you will get enough followers you can quit your day job and do this full time, that would be awesome!
Awesome video, I am rebuilding my first Holden (Australia) v8, and I wasn't 100% on adjusting the rockers....you Sir and this video are fantastic. Thank you 🙏

@@tavo24vv27 yes.. its worked great for my 5.8L f150 4x4. Except I followed the ford specs on rocker arm torque specs. Which is 22-ftlbs after finding zero lash on top dead center of each cylinder you're lashing valves on. 2 full rotations will allow you to lash each cylinder in firing order one quarter turn at a time.
Hello my friend thanks for your explanation. I did not say "any lifter". I said, hydraulic lifter, huge difference. The science behind the operation doesn't change with brand name. Its either hydraulic flat tappet, hydralic roller, or its a solid - plain and simple
