    I have two non fiction recommendations -
    1. The Booksellers Tale by Martin Latham, the author is a bookseller and it's a book about reading itself, the history of reading in society, book stores and booksellers and their history, how books become comfort books, library histories, and a lot more! It's so comforting and fascinating and would highly recommend!
    The second one is The Gifts of Reading, a collection of essays on the joys of reading, giving and receiving books 😊📖

  • @irissu02
    @irissu02 10 місяців тому +4

    For the grandmaster an advice I can give you is to go watch some edits from the drama, the actors brings those characters to life so much that it can really help to get into the story when you know the chemistry 🤭🤭 and edits are short enough to not get too spoiled 😏

    I randomly picked up The Wishing Game from my library in October having never heard of it and not knowing that it was popular or a goodreads choice awards nominee or anything. Love Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation! I'm currently on Book 3 and let me tell you, I am invested! But I also get where you're coming from because, despite absolutely loving the books, the chapters are very episodic, so it's easy to put down and pick up a different book in between.
    The comic version is great as well --- the art is incredible!
    Edit: Looking forward the the manga project! I've read quite a bit of manga and manhwa this year trying to beat reading slumps; current favourite is Apothecary Diaries.

Like the Red Rising series, Divine Rivals, Silver Under Nightfall and the House Witch series. These were my stand outs this year, and I want these to help my reading tastes in the future.

    A book I'm definitely taking on into 2024 is The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty. I read a lot of fantasy, but most of it is western-oriented. This book however is set among the vibrant cultures on the Indian ocean - a true delight.
    For non-fiction I highly recommend The Heroine's Journey by Gail Carriger, it helped me a lot to develop as a writer.

    Love seeing that you had such a great reading year in 2023. I hope the same will be said of 2024. I personally did not have a great reading year and I am hoping for a better one. I want to leave two books behind in 2023. I didn't hate either one though. Both though were recent reads. What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher is a retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher in which a strange lake and forest are featured with a dying woman who is an old friend of our main character. This was not a bad novella, and quite fun to read at times (the gleeful cackle I gave off when I read the first paragraph description was something). But this book really made me question if the author is for me because something is distinctly lacking in her books that makes them continuously fall flat for me. She has such a range in books that it feels weird to say she is not for me which is why I am giving her one last chance. I want to read something that isn't a horror from her or a short story collection. But I feel like that book is just somewhat forgettable. The other book that I will be leaving behind is The Poetry of Edward Lear. Simply not for me. There was one limerick that I liked that was about enchanting a city with a lyre, but that was it. As for 2024 I will be bringing Evil Roots: Killer Tales of the Botanical Gothic which is a new favourite even though it is not the favourite of the year. I will also be bringing a short story called The Apple Tree by Daphne Du Maurier.
    If you want a non fiction to look into, consider Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds, And Shape Our Futures.

    I finished the Dreamer Trilogy back in January and loved it I never knew what was coming. I even reread the books over the summer as audio books. I'm definitely taking those with me alone with the Raven Cycle. A book I'm good with leaving behind is We Were Liars, I went into It thinking I wasn't going to like it. Most of it I liked alright and then the twist at the end kinda of gave me the ick. It's not the books fault I think the thriller? type of books are not for me. In some ways it made me think of Neverworld Wake I read last which I also didn't liking very much. Something about those just didn't vibe with me!!
